Talon had learned the trick from Falling Water and used it to his advantage any time he was working with green horses. He was glad she had been born on the range; it made horses smarter to have to figure out how to survive in the wild. A smarter horse was a lot easier to work with. The other mare had retreated to the far end of the corral and was standing watching from what she felt was as safe a distance as she could get. Talon took the lariat off the lead mare and left the halter rope tied to the anchor post. There was no reason to worry that the mare would be able to pull with any success and even if she blew up all she would do was fall down. If she did, he would have to start all over again.
