She had chosen the bay and had put herself between the larger mare and the fence at the end of the corral. Talon let her stand for a little while and cool down. Then he pulled the rope tight. As he did, it lifted up against the rump of the bay. He expected the big mare to spook and at least lunge forward, but all she did was turn sideways up against the corral fence and leave the sorrel without a hiding place. At that, the sorrel put her nose into the corner and showed Talon her fighting end. Well enough, thought Talon. He worried that the two horses might become tangled if a fight broke out between him and the sorrel, but used the same methods he had used on the bay in spite of it. An hour or so later, he had the sorrel tied to a post at the other end of the corral gate. He sacked her
