Chapter 9 JR Bad Water On the same day that Talon entered the town of Wolf Creek, at around three that morning, a rifle shot rang out ten miles away. Brodie Buckhart had been riding home. He was about five miles short of the ranch, and still pretty drunk, but he knew where he was. It was a narrow part of the road that bottlenecked between two ridges. He never heard the shot that killed him. By six that morning Lance Buckhart was getting worried. Brodie was late. He knew when the stage should have gotten to Wolf Creek and he allowed time for Brodie to get ready and leave town. That should of meant that Brodie would be home the night before. He reasoned that he might of stayed in town, but that would mean renting a room. He rejected the idea and sent a couple buckaroos to look for him.
