CHAPTER THREE

1191 Words
That night, there was a rainfall fall but it was heavy. Aria was in her room thinking of what had happened earlier. Does it mean Damian was hiding something? She kept wondering. At some point, she wanted to let it go. She said to herself, “Why am I worried”? “After all, the marriage is not real in the first place. They kept asking her why she was acting like a real wife instead of maintaining the status of their relationship. Then, she concluded: “ I need to focus on my life instead of the mystery in this mansion”. She tried to close her eyes and sleep. She felt she saw someone moving around in her room. When she opened her eyes, she would see nothing. She tried to close her eyes again, but this time around, it seemed as though it was appearing more than before; so close that she couldn't help it. She sat up and looked around the room. She saw nothing. As she was about to go back to sleep, the voice came again,” Please…help me…” Aria's heart caught, and fear gripped her. She jumped into the bed and quickly covered herself with the duvet. Her heart beat very fast, and gradually, she managed to uncover her face. She said softly, “ Who is there? If you really want me to help you, come out and let me see you. The only sound she heard was the ticking of the wall clock. She carefully pushed the blanket away and walked slowly towards the door. She opened it carefully. The corridor was empty and silent. This time around, she heard it clearly. Then, she decided to follow the direction of the voice. It is coming from the east wing. She was afraid, but she summoned courage and followed the voice. The voice seems familiar to her, but she thinks, How come when she hadn't been in this house before?. Who possibly could it be? She got to the door this time around, and it wasn't locked. She touched the door, and everything felt very cold, and she felt something strange, like a memory of something. She felt the shadow again, but this time around, she was scared, and she ran back to her room. She shut the door and leaned her back on it, breathing heavily. She managed to open her eyes, and what she saw was so scary that she almost passed out. She saw a white write-up on her mirror,” You're not safe here.” She fainted! It is morning again, and the sunlight fills the room. She managed to stand up and found out that she had slept on the floor throughout the night. She quickly stood up and, as she was about to enter the toilet to freshen up so that she wouldn't be late for breakfast, she saw that writing on the mirror again. She summoned the courage and went near it. She cleaned it and stayed there for a while. She asked herself, Is someone really living in that east wing? Who wrote this on the mirror, and why are they not safe? They quickly freshened up and walked to the dining room. As usual, Damain is there checking something on her tablet. She was nervous, but she managed to greet: Good morning, Mr Stone. Damain nodded in response and pointed his hand at the chair in the direct opposite position to his. Aria sat down calmly, and Damain raised his face gradually. He looked at Aria and found out that she was not looking too good. He asked in a concerned tone. “What happened to you?” Aria said in a weak voice, “ I heard the voice”. It was coming from the east wing. Damain dropped his tablet and looked at her. This time with an angry tone.” Why is it that you alone see something often”? “Why not others”? I warned you about that east wing and…she cut it in with a low, weak voice, “it was a woman's voice. Damain was very mad this time: You need to stop this madness now? His voice was firm, but it showed he was hiding something and was also afraid. His hand was shaking, and it was obvious he had a past he was afraid to share. Aria looked at him, but he quickly hid his fear. At night that day, Aria was sitting near her window, hugging her knees and resting her head on them. She was asking herself if she was experiencing madness or if it was Damain that was trying to hide something. “But, I am not mad”. She said as she freed her hand from her knee. Everything seems clearer, even with the way Damain responded, it shows that he is hiding something under his anger. Tonight, I will know if I was actually mad or if it was Damain that was hiding something. She waited and was sure everyone had gone to bed. She quietly opened her door and checked before she closed the door behind her. She quietly walked towards the east door, but then, something made her stop. She saw the movement like a shadow of a woman. It walked passed but was very fast. She wiped her hand over her face to be sure she didn't see a ghost. She said faintly, “Hello... then, the figure stopped. She ran down the hall with fear that gripped her. She bumped into a structure that made her want to shout, but the voice made her silent. “ What are you doing here?” Damain said quietly, but you could sense anger in his voice. “Why are you so stubborn like this?”. She was panting seriously and panicking. She said quietly, I saw a figure. She stopped when I talked…then” “Then what”? Damain said in a low voice that is capable of not waking anyone up. “No one has been living in that wing for years. It is just an imagination. “ “If it were an imagination, is it not supposed to be in my head? She sobbed quietly. Why do I see it with my eyes? “Why didn't you allow me to go near the wing? What are you hiding? “Enough of this rubbish! I won't take this nonsense from you again,” Damain said in annoyance. He paused for a while and continued, but this time in a calm tone. “Please! Go back to your room.” Aria was surprised to hear this. She had never heard Damain say that to anyone. Aria was standing there in surprise, and she could sense Damain was afraid of something. She walked quietly to her room, and when she got in, she locked the door and leaned on it. She was holding her chest with her hand to feel her breathing. Suddenly, she heard a sound that sounded like the one her mother used to sing for her when she was a baby.
