Chapter Thirty-One
Kim played it safe for the first month or so after getting hauled to Scotland. The people holding her captive were her family, and she couldn’t bring herself to put up an actual fight against them. But the more she tried to explain, the more she tried to get them to come around, the more convinced they all became that there was a vampire messing with her mind. It didn’t take her long to learn to stop talking about it, stop asking to be allowed to go. Definitely stop asking for help to get Lenny back.
But if she wasn’t asking, she really wasn’t doing much at all. They weren’t going to let her go because she asked, but they definitely weren’t going to spontaneously decide they’d all been wrong.
So she stopped playing it safe and disappeared into the Votadini’s archives.
