EXT. TOWN – SAME NIGHT
Michael gazes at the soft glow for a long time. It's flickering gently, almost like a heartbeat coming from the very ground.
MICHAEL
Yeah… I can see it. Feels stronger tonight.
Lena crosses her arms, shivering a bit as the wind whistles down the empty street.
LENA
That’s where it all started, right? The night she vanished.
Michael takes a moment before replying. His jaw tightens as memories flood back—the strange sounds that night, something like a voice, neither human nor wind.
MICHAEL
Anna claimed she heard someone calling her name. We didn’t take her seriously.
LENA
(sighing)
We thought she was just imagining things. But now…
She glances back at the hills. The glow pulses again, and this time they both catch a faint sound, a mix between a whisper and a hum.
MICHAEL
You hear that?
LENA
Yeah. It’s… it’s saying her name.
Cut to—
EXT. HILLSIDE PATH – NIGHT
It’s colder up here. Mist curls around the ground. Footsteps echo, slow and steady. A figure materializes through the haze. It’s Anna. Her expression is serene, but her eyes shine with a mysterious golden light.
She’s clutching the silver pendant that once belonged to her mother—the one she lost months ago when the dreams started.
ANNA
(softly, to herself)
So this is where it all began… and where it’s destined to end.
Suddenly, the ground shakes. The soft hum grows louder, like a chorus from beneath. She kneels down, pressing her palm into the earth, whispering a prayer in a language she doesn’t recognize but somehow understands.
VOICE (O.S.)
You have been called… because the promise must be fulfilled.
Anna gasps and looks up. The light from the hills forms a glowing column, with faint shapes shifting inside it—people, memories, spirits. She catches a glimpse of her mother’s face, glowing with peace.
ANNA
Mom?
MOTHER'S SPIRIT
The power flows through you, Anna. It’s time to awaken it. Our legacy depends on it.
Tears well up in Anna’s eyes.
ANNA
But I don’t get it! What do you mean?
MOTHER'S SPIRIT
The darkness that silenced us is rising again. You were chosen to break the seal and reclaim what was lost.
The column of light bursts into brilliance, enveloping Anna. Her pendant glows intensely, symbols appearing on the ground.
CUT TO:
EXT. TOWN BELOW – NIGHT
Michael and Lena watch the sky explode with light, illuminating the hills in golden hues.
LENA
Michael… that’s her!
MICHAEL
(whispering)
Anna’s awakening.
EXT. HILLSIDE SANCTUARY – NIGHT
The air crackles with energy. Trees sway, even without wind. The mist dissipates, revealing an ancient stone circle that’s been hidden for ages. Anna stands in its center, shaking as the golden light begins to dim.
Her pendant stops glowing, but the symbols on the ground still shimmer faintly.
ANNA
(whispering)
What are you trying to show me?
Her hand brushes against one of the symbols, a spiral with three lines intersecting. Instantly, warmth surges up her arm. Her eyes flicker with golden light again, revealing visions—a temple, a woman in white, flames, and a crown sinking into water.
She gasps and stumbles back.
VOICE (O.S.)
The seal has been broken.
Startled, she turns to see Elder Mara, the woman who warned the townspeople never to climb these hills after dark, stepping out from behind one of the stones. Her white hair glints softly in the moonlight.
ANNA
Elder Mara… you knew, didn’t you? You knew this would happen.
ELDER MARA
I knew the bloodline would call again, yes. But I didn’t expect it would be you.
ANNA
What bloodline?
ELDER MARA
The line of The Keepers. Those chosen to protect the ancient bond between light and darkness. Your mother was the last Keeper before she was silenced.
Anna stares at her, shaken.
ANNA
My mom… she never told me any of this.
ELDER MARA
She couldn’t. A Keeper’s oath silences their tongue until the heir awakens. Tonight, that seal has shattered, and your gift has returned.
Anna glances at her hands. A faint golden glow pulses beneath her skin like light captured in glass.
ANNA
What gift?
ELDER MARA
The sight beyond the veil. The power to see truth, both divine and hidden. But, Anna, there’s more. The same light that calls to you has awakened something dark.
A distant rumble shakes the earth. A chill breeze sweeps through the hills. The glow of the symbols flickers, then fades away.
ELDER MARA
They have sensed your awakening.
CUT TO:
EXT. TOWN – NIGHT
Michael and Lena sprint up the hill, breathless, catching sight of the last glimmers of light vanishing in the sky. The air smells like rain and smoke.
LENA
We’re too late.
MICHAEL
No. Look.
He points to the ridge, where Anna’s silhouette stands tall against the sky, her hair dancing in the wind. For a brief moment, her outline glows softly.
MICHAEL (CONT'D)
She’s alive… but something feels different.
LENA
What if it’s not just her?
CUT TO:
INT. OLD CHURCH – SAME NIGHT
Candles flicker without a breeze. Father Raymond kneels in prayer. Suddenly, his Bible flops open by itself, pages flipping until it stops at Isaiah 60:1, “Arise, shine; for thy light is come, and the glory of the Lord is risen upon thee.”
He looks up, his face a mask of fear.
FATHER RAYMOND
It’s happening again. The prophecy of the light-bearer… the chosen daughter.
EXT. HILLSIDE SANCTUARY – NIGHT
Anna’s eyes close as thunder rumbles above. The last remnants of the light seep into her body.
ANNA
(quietly)
If I’ve been called… then I will answer.
Elder Mara nods.
ELDER MARA
Then brace yourself, child. Every call comes with a price.
The earth trembles once more. In the distance, a shadowy figure watches from the trees, eyes glowing red.
FADE OUT.
CHAPTER 3 – THE SHADOWS REMEMBER
EXT. FOREST EDGE – NIGHT
The moon hides behind clouds. The wind rustles through the trees, carrying whispers that sound like names. A cloaked figure kneels by a stream, scooping water with his hand. The reflection staring back isn’t human; his eyes are coal black, and his face shifts like smoke.
DARK FIGURE
(softly)
She has awakened… the Keeper’s daughter.
The air around him writhes. Black mist spills across the ground, swirling like a shadowy liquid.
SECOND VOICE (O.S.)
Then the balance has shifted again. We must find her before she remembers who she truly is.
The first figure offers a faint smile.
DARK FIGURE
She will come to us… like they all do. The light always moves toward what it fears.
CUT TO:
EXT. HILLSIDE SANCTUARY – DAWN
The sun rises over the hills, chasing away the mist with warm golden light. Anna sits by the stone circle, weary. Her hands tremble, traces of light still glowing in her veins.
Elder Mara keeps a watchful distance.
ANNA
I saw people I’ve never met, faces that looked like mine. They were standing in the fire, singing.
ELDER MARA
Those are the Keepers who came before you. Each carried a mark, each had the same gift. They live through memory… and memory never fades.
ANNA
Then why can’t I remember anything about my mother’s life as a Keeper?
Mara’s expression softens.
ELDER MARA
Because remembering awakens power, and with power comes danger. Your mother concealed the truth to protect you.
Anna lowers her head, tears glistening in her eyes.
ANNA
I can feel something within me shifting. Sometimes it hurts; sometimes it feels like… there’s someone else inside me.
Mara steps closer.
ELDER MARA
That’s your spirit aligning with the covenant. The shadows will try to twist it. But you have to stay grounded, or they’ll exploit your pain as an entry point.
CUT TO:
INT. MICHAEL'S GARAGE – MORNING
Michael and Lena sat at a cluttered table covered with maps, old letters, and a half-burned journal belonging to Anna’s mother.
LENA
These pages talk about “The Rift,” something her mother sealed twenty-five years ago. It says if the line of the Keeper ends, the Rift opens again.
MICHAEL
Then Anna’s awakening might have broken that seal.
He gazes toward the hills through the window.
MICHAEL (CONT'D)
We need to find her before they do.
LENA
“They”?
Before he can respond, the lights flicker. A draft whooshes through the garage. The journal slams shut on its own.
LENA
Michael… what was that?
He looks down; a faint black mark has appeared on the table, shaped like a serpent encircling a star.
MICHAEL
The mark of the Shadow has emerged.
CUT TO:
EXT. ABANDONED CHAPEL – NIGHT
Anna follows a soft hum to a forgotten chapel hidden deep in the woods. Vines creep up its walls, and shattered stained-glass litter the floor like fallen stars.
Inside, the air feels thick. Her pendant starts to glow again, drawing her toward the altar. A faint voice hums, the same one she has heard in her dreams.
VOICE (O.S.)
You are her mirror, Anna. Her promise lives on in you.
She steps closer. A stone tablet carved with the same symbols from the hill stands behind the altar. As she touches it, visions flood her mind—her mother at the altar, sealing a portal of fire while shadows screamed from within.
ANNA
(whispering)
She didn’t die in an accident… she sacrificed herself.
Tears begin to flow down her face.
Suddenly, the chapel door creaks. A gust of cold wind snuffs out the remaining candles. The atmosphere grows darker. A tall shadow looms in the doorway.
DARK FIGURE
Your mother’s sacrifice bought time, not victory.
Anna turns slowly, fear flashing in her eyes.
ANNA
Who are you?
The figure steps into the light. His face swirls between human and monstrous, the same one she saw in the forest.
DARK FIGURE
I am what your bloodline has sought to erase. I am the memory of the first rebellion.
He raises his hand; the air trembles. Anna’s pendant flares, creating a burst of light that shields her. The shadow recoils, hissing.
DARK FIGURE (CONT'D)
So the light still shines. Good. It will make your fall… more brilliant.
The figure vanishes into smoke. Silence envelops the chapel once more.
Anna collapses to her knees, gripping her pendant, her heart racing.
ANNA
(quietly)
What are you trying to show me, God? Why me?
The pendant pulses again, and a whisper answers softly, filled with both love and power.
VOICE (O.S.)
Because the world forgets, but heaven remembers.
