For the past five days, she had been hating it, living with that man. He hadn't taught her anything. He only ordered her to cook, clean, and water the garden.
After she made breakfast, she planned to go into the forest to practice for her next move. "I'm going into the forest later to practice."
"No," he firmly said, unbothered.
Her facial expression changed. She was beginning to resent him for his selfishness and rude manners.
"How can you not allow me from doing my own things? It's not like I have unfinished work I still need to do. What do you mean, no?" she complained.
"Because I say so. Don't forget, I'm now your master."
"Master?" she began to say, but he interrupted her.
"Shh."
Jen said no more and kept her complaints to herself.
"That's unfair. Now I don't even have my freedom!" she silently cried in her heart as she walked to her room.
An hour later, there was a knock on the door, followed by a voice. "Come out; we are going somewhere."
She immediately jumped off her bed and brought her book along. "Finally, he's going to teach me."
When they were at the door, the man noticed what she was wearing and asked, "It's hot outside; why are you wearing your cloak?"
She was bored, and her dress was dirty, so she washed it and wore a cloak since she didn't have any other clothes. That was what she had been doing for the past few days; it was just that he never noticed it.
"I washed my dress," she said, slightly embarrassed.
The man sighed and went to his room. Two minutes later, he came back and handed her his clothes. "Wear this."
Jen quickly ran to her room and changed. When she looked in the mirror, she was stunned. The clothes made her look like a boy, hiding the shape of her body.
Happy with what she was seeing, she went back to him. "I'm ready."
The man was secretly shocked by how boyish she looked. You wouldn't recognize her as a girl from afar.
"Let's go," he said, maintaining his coldness.
They walked for about an hour before they stopped in front of a big cave. She was confused about what they were going to do there. She originally thought they were going to the tall trees.
"What are we doing here?" she couldn't help but ask.
Instead of answering her, he said, "Go inside and don't come out until I say so."
"What? She was not expecting that. As much as she trusted him, she still had doubts. She didn't even know what was inside the cave; what if there was a huge monster inside waiting for its lunch?
"I said, go in and don't come out until I say so. If you don't want to, you can leave," he said calmly.
She knew what the word "leave" referred to. Facing the threat, she slowly walked inside. As she entered, it was pitch black. She couldn't see anything.
Scared, she immediately came out. "It's too dark in there; I can't see anything."
"If you are not going to do as I say, then I'm leaving," he said, turning around, ready to leave.
"Wait, Sir!" she called.
"Don't call me sir; I'm your master, not your sir," he said with a cold look under his mask.
"Sorry, master." She bit her lips nervously.
"Fine, I will do it." She took a deep breath in and out. "I can do this," she encouraged herself.
She slowly walked back in, and this time she listened to her master. It was very dark inside, and it made her see unknown things. Although she was scared, her bravery overcame her fears.
As time went on, she adjusted to the darkness. She didn't know why she needed to do that, but she trusted her master.
An hour later, she was told to come out. When her eyes met the light again, she was blinded, and it took her a few minutes to adjust to the light.
She didn't know how much time she had spent there, but she was sure it was less than thirty minutes.
"What was that for?" she asked curiously.
"Don't worry, soon you'll know why," he said, passing her and asking, "What's your spirit animal?"
"Cheetah," she answered proudly.
"What can you do?"
She scratched her arm, embarrassed, and responded with, "I only know how to dodge; that's what I recently unlocked so far."
He stared at her for a moment before saying, "Give me your hand."
He felt her pulse and said with curiosity, "Mhm, I see you lack a lot of things. Your senses are weak; you can't run for a long distance as an expert with the same powers can. I see, you are very much useless."
His last sentence offended Jen as much as she wanted to talk back, but he was her master, after all. If his rudeness continued, she might run out of patience with him soon.
They walked up to a table that had four medium-sized rocks placed on top of it, two on top of each other creating a wall.
" Break these rocks into smaller pieces without throwing hard on the ground."
She thought she had heard wrong, but when she sees how serious he appeared, she said, " That's impossible, there's no way I can do that without hitting them with something hard."
" Wrong! Stand there." He points two meters away from the table.
Jen obediently followed his instructions.
"Stand up straight!"
She stood still with her heart slowly starting to beat fast.
" Go down a bit, left foot back! Right foot forward! Stretch your arms! Hands open! " He shouted.
She did as he said silently complaining about his tone. " He doesn't need to shout, I'm not deaf." She rolled her eyes with a frown.
" Close your eyes! Slowly inhale and exhale! "
" Use your 'quick draw' to shatter the rocks."
" How do I even do that? Let me get my book." Before she could even move a muscle, she heard a strong firm voice
" No! Just do as I say."
