I shut my bedroom door behind me and let out a slow, controlled breath, like I was trying to physically exhale the tension from my body. God, that had been way too close. I peeled off my hoodie, suddenly feeling unreasonably hot, and tossed it over my chair before flopping onto my bed for a moment, pressing my hands against my face. My shoulder throbbed a little where Caleb had checked me, the force of it lingering longer than it should have. At least it hadn't been worse. I felt like I'd miraculously managed to dodge a bullet.
