It was a brand new day, but I still couldn’t get that f*****g stream out of my head. Or, more specifically—that one f*****g word. Acquaintance. I’d replayed it in my head more times than I wanted to admit. The way she hesitated before saying it. The way she almost called me something else—what? A friend? A former friend? A f*****g asshole? Did it even matter? No... It didn't matter, and I didn't care. We'd had our glory days, but now they were long over and we were both moving in very different directions. I shook the thought off, rolling my shoulders as I leaned against the kitchen counter watching Caleb rummage through my fridge. It was rare for us to hang out at my house instead of his, but I didn’t feel like dealing with his parents today. They were always a little too involved
