The ruins felt colder as Selene sat on the edge of her throne, her fingers gripping the stone as if it could steady the storm inside her. Ronan was gone. The battle was over, yet she couldn’t shake the unease curling in her chest. She had thought severing the bond would protect him, would keep him from being dragged into the war she was destined to fight. But had she only pushed him toward a different battlefield? Orion stood nearby, his posture relaxed but watchful. He had said little since Ronan left. Maybe he understood that whatever words he offered wouldn’t be enough. But Magnus? Magnus had plenty to say. Magnus paced along the ruined archways, his silver eyes gleaming with amusement. "You look miserable, little queen. Was sending your mate away not as satisfying as you expected?"
