It was harder than I would’ve thought to see Alice go through that kind of pain. If I hadn’t reacted sooner, she probably would have died. It was right then that I truly recognized the danger that everyone was in. I didn’t mind the challenges for Jayce, but when it came to Alice, I wish she didn’t have to do them anymore. It was only going to hurt her in the end, and I say this like she hasn’t already been hurt.
I couldn’t quite remember what my challenge was. I hoped it was a realistic enough challenge that helped me get back to Alice safely. Did I really want to die and leave her alone with Jayce and two people who were basically strangers to her? No. I didn’t. Alice and I were key landmarks in our lives. If either of us went missing, we would no longer be the same.
