Chapter 3

"Mia, what's wrong?" Daniel pulled Mia into his arms, his eyes filled with concern. Mia shook her head, looking pitiful. "It's nothing. This was my fault. Please don't blame Amelia." The more she acted like the victim, the more convinced Daniel became that I had bullied her. "Amelia." His face turned cold. "Apologize." His commanding tone left no room for argument. It sounded less like a request and more like an Alpha ordering a subordinate. A cold smile tugged at my lips. Frowning, he continued, "Mia grew up with me. She's like my own sister. She's family, and she's important to me. Can you stop treating her like this every time you see her? Just be a little nicer to her, for my sake." I looked at him without a trace of emotion. I'd heard those same words countless times five years ago. I was sick of them. Just as I was about to throw them out, my phone, sitting on the counter, began vibrating. A video call. The caller ID read: My Sweet Boy. The moment Daniel saw the name, his eyes lit up. Before I could stop him, he reached over and answered the call. I quickly took my phone back. A chubby little face filled the screen. It was my two-year-old son, Kimi. "Mommy, I miss you," he said in his sweet little voice. The instant Daniel heard him call me Mommy, excitement flooded his face. He was convinced Kimi was his son. I exchanged a few quick words with Kimi before ending the call. Just as Daniel reached for the phone, trying to talk to him himself, the screen went dark. "Let me see my son." He grinned from ear to ear, all the anger from moments ago completely gone. Beside him, Mia's expression darkened. "He's not your son." I looked at Daniel coldly. "Leave me alone. Both of you are completely delusional." Instead of getting angry, he smiled indulgently. "Alright, don't be upset. I've missed both you and our son." At that moment, I realized someone as arrogant as Daniel would never believe I had stopped loving him unless he saw my husband standing beside me. Before I could respond, he spoke again. "My mom's birthday is in a few days. You're an excellent cook. Make a few of her favorite dishes. This is the perfect chance to make peace with her. Now that she has a grandson, she won't make things difficult for you anymore." So he knew. He knew exactly how badly his mother had treated me throughout our marriage. Jenny had always looked down on me because I was an ordinary werewolf. Even though I was Daniel's fated mate and the rightful Luna of the Dubois Pack, she excluded me from every important pack gathering. If she attended a family dinner, I wasn't even allowed to sit at the table. The feeling was mutual. I couldn't stand her either. We barely acknowledged each other's existence. And Daniel? He never defended me. He never tried to ease the tension. He simply stayed silent, pretending it had nothing to do with him. A mocking smile appeared on my lips. I looked at him and asked deliberately, "Daniel, let's say I cook every one of Jenny's favorite dishes. What if she still refuses to let me join the family dinner?" He hesitated before answering, "You're younger. It won't hurt your pride to apologize and say a few nice things. You know what my mom is like. She talks tough, but she doesn't mean it." Mia immediately chimed in with a sugary smile. "Amelia, it's perfectly normal for younger people to give in a little. Besides, no mother can stay angry at someone who kneels down and sincerely begs for forgiveness." She was telling me to kneel before Jenny. I let out a cold laugh. Looking straight into Daniel's eyes, I said each word slowly and clearly, "Daniel, five years have passed. Nothing is the way it used to be. I'm married now. And Kimi isn't your son." Then I turned to Mia. "Instead of worrying about me, maybe you should spend more time figuring out how to please Daniel in bed. Who knows? You might finally get the ring you've been waiting years for."
