7 Mike stood in Kristen’s kitchen trying to figure out how he was going to tell her that he definitely did know Beth, even if he’d forgotten. Well, technically he knew Elizabeth and it had been years since he’d seen her. She was a lot different now. When he’d known her, she’d gone by her full name and had brown hair. She’d not dressed like she’d been when he’d seen her at the school. She wore jean shorts and crop tops and had hung with his friends at the bar when he’d gotten back from his first tour of duty. Their mothers had been friends, it turned out, and they were more than excited to see their kids hanging out. He’d spent two weeks staying with his mother and mostly drunk, hanging out with Beth almost every night. Then he’d gone back to the army and not given her another thought.
