CHAPTER TWO

1465 Words
The Beginning of Us (Part 3) I thought that conversation with Kelvin would be just another forgotten moment. A simple introduction. A random meeting during a lockdown. Something I would remember for a few days and then move on from. But I was wrong. Because after we exchanged contacts, we started talking. At first, it was nothing serious. Just casual conversations between two people trying to know each other. A simple "How are you?" A random conversation about our day. Small jokes. Small stories. Nothing that felt important. At least, not in the beginning. But slowly, something changed. The more we talked, the more comfortable I became around him. I started realizing that Kelvin was not exactly the person I had created in my mind. Before knowing him, I had already judged him. I thought he was just another confident guy who enjoyed attention. But the more conversations we had, the more I discovered there was more to him. There was a side of him that people did not see easily. A thoughtful side. A calm side. A side that made me curious. --- The strike continued, and eventually, things became worse. Students had to leave school and return home because there was no certainty about when everything would return to normal. I thought going home would create distance between us. I thought maybe, with time, we would stop talking naturally. After all, we were no longer seeing each other around campus. There were no random encounters near the hostel. No passing each other on the way to lectures. No familiar face appearing in unexpected places. But somehow, the distance did the opposite. We talked even more. Days turned into weeks. Weeks turned into months. And without realizing it, Kelvin became part of my everyday life. --- I never thought I would become the type of person who waited for someone's message. But I did. I found myself checking my phone more often. I found myself smiling when I saw his name appear on my screen. I found myself wanting to tell him about little things that happened during my day. It surprised me. Because I had always been someone who enjoyed my own space. I was independent. I was focused. I didn’t need someone constantly around me. But with Kelvin, it felt different. Talking to him became natural. It became something I looked forward to. A day without hearing from him felt incomplete. And slowly, without noticing when it happened, Kelvin became my world. --- The most surprising part was how much we had in common. We could talk for hours without running out of things to say. We discovered similar interests, similar ways of thinking, and similar dreams. One thing that really caught my attention was his love for reading novels. I had never expected that from him. There was something attractive about someone who enjoyed books, someone who could escape into different worlds through stories. It showed me that Kelvin was not just about appearances. He had depth. He had a mind that was always searching for something new. And that was what impressed me the most. His intelligence. Kelvin was studying engineering, a field I knew required discipline and a strong mind. Meanwhile, I was studying business. Our worlds were different. He dealt with numbers, designs, and technical problems. I focused on business, management, and understanding people. But somehow, those differences made our conversations even more interesting. He challenged my thoughts. I enjoyed listening to his opinions. Sometimes, I would find myself amazed by the way his mind worked. He was not just intelligent academically. He was someone who could hold meaningful conversations. Someone who made me think differently. --- The girl who once said she would never fall in love was slowly becoming attached. But I didn’t call it love. Not yet. I refused to give it that name. I told myself we were just friends. Just two people who enjoyed talking. Just two students passing time during a difficult period. But deep down, something was changing. Something I couldn't control. Because somewhere between our endless conversations, our laughter, and the moments we shared from a distance… Kelvin stopped being just a person I knew. He became the person I wanted to talk to. The person I looked for. The person who could change my entire mood with just one message. And the most frightening part was… I didn’t even realize when it happened. I only knew that the girl who once believed love was a distraction was now waiting every day for someone who had become her favorite part of the day. Kelvin. The boy I never planned to notice. Chapter Two: The Day I Lost My Rules Returning to campus felt like returning to a different life. The lockdown had separated us from everything familiar, but somehow, during those months away, Kelvin had become the most familiar person in my life. I remember the excitement of seeing campus again. The same buildings. The same paths. The same hostel areas. Everything looked normal, but I didn’t feel the same. Because this time, I wasn’t just returning as Lyn, the girl who only cared about her studies. I was returning as someone who had spent months building a connection with someone. Someone who had become a part of my everyday life. Someone I had missed more than I wanted to admit. Kelvin. --- The first time I saw him again after months apart, something inside me changed. It was strange because I had talked to him almost every day. I knew his thoughts. I knew his jokes. I knew the stories he told me. But seeing him again in person felt different. The person who had only existed through phone calls and messages was suddenly standing in front of me. Real. Close. Familiar. And somehow, my heart reacted in a way I couldn’t explain. I had missed him. More than I expected. --- That day, I ended up spending time with him. And before I knew it, I was at his place. Looking back, I still remember how unexpected everything felt. I was the same girl who always believed she had control over herself. The girl who could say no. The girl who always knew where to draw the line. I had always been proud of that part of myself. But with Kelvin, things felt different. There was a comfort between us that had grown over months. A trust. A closeness. A bond that made me forget the walls I had spent years building. I knew there were things I should think about. I knew I should slow down. A voice inside me reminded me that this was a big step. That I was entering a part of life I had never experienced before. But emotions are not always as easy to control as we believe. --- That night became a memory I would never forget. Not because everything was perfect. Not because I suddenly had all the answers. But because it was the moment I realized how much power Kelvin had over my heart. For the first time, I understood that this was no longer just friendship. I had crossed a line I never thought I would cross. The girl who had always been careful had allowed someone in. The girl who never wanted to depend on anyone had found herself attached to someone. And that scared me. Because when you give someone a part of your heart, you also give them the ability to hurt you. --- After that day, I couldn’t pretend anymore. Kelvin was no longer just the person I talked to. He was no longer just my friend. He had become someone who mattered to me in a way I couldn’t ignore. I started seeing him differently. I started feeling things I had never felt before. And the hardest part was admitting the truth: I was falling. The girl who once said love was a distraction was now living inside a feeling she never planned for. I had always believed I would be the person who walked away before getting too attached. But somehow, I was the one holding on. Kelvin had become my comfort. My happiness. My weakness. And I didn’t know whether that was beautiful or dangerous. Because loving someone means giving them something precious. Your heart. And I had no idea what would happen to mine. --- I thought finding love would feel like a beautiful ending. I didn’t know sometimes love was only the beginning of a story filled with lessons, fears, and choices. But one thing was certain… The girl who entered Kelvin’s life as a stranger was no longer the same girl. Something had changed. And whether I was ready or not… My story with Kelvin had truly begun.
