Charging his way inside through the lobby of the apartment building, Dante used his expert targeting and skills with various weapons to take out each of the armed intruders waiting downstairs for the others to return.
There was a total of six more men down in the lobby when Dante had first arrived, and by the time that Nicola had caught up with his Capo to assist, there were only two left.
Four lifeless bodies lay bloodied on the floor, their empty eyes wide and expressions of terror apparent on their pale faces.
The Reaper had come for them.
And boy was he pissed!
Glancing up, Nicola noticed as several gunshots were fired at the other end of the lobby and he darted behind one of the nearby pillars for cover.
It was from this position that he noticed Dante crouched down and pulling out his trusty throwing knives from the belt behind his back.
Lifting his eyes for a brief moment, Dante met Nicola’s gaze and paused for a moment, as if to silently inform his underboss and friend that he had things under control.
To just sit back and watch, so to speak.
Nicola noticed the side of Dante’s mouth curve upwards slightly, as if he was fighting back a devilish smirk.
Right before the Don suddenly moved to stand within the fraction of a second and hurtled all five knives through the air faster than Nicola could see them.
Zipping through the air, the blades of three knives hit their intended target in several different places…
The left arm, pinning it to the wall behind him.
His chest, right below his shoulder.
And finally, his right arm which was also pinned to the wall.
The foolish Russian was now unable to escape as he grunted in a mixture of pain and fear.
With an expression of demonic rage, Dante moved in towards his pinned victim, ready to make his final kill.
Noticing movement out the corner of his eye, Nicola saw one of the remaining Russians lifting his gun up from where he stood hidden behind one of the opposite pillars.
With the barrel of his gun aimed directly at Dante, this bastard’s intentions were quite clear.
He hoped to take out the Reaper with a sneak shot.
But Nicola, a highly skilled gunman beat him to it, managing to lift his own gun up and fire off a precise head shot in the split of a second, right before his opponent even managed to get a single shot off!
‘BANG!’
The singular bullet hit the Russian right between the eyes, causing him to flop backwards and land hard with a ‘thud’ on the floor below.
His gun skidded out of his lifeless hand and across the lobby’s floor.
Noticing the fallen enemy off to his side, Dante immediately knew what had happened and turned to look over at Nicola as the underboss stepped out from his hiding place.
A single nod was all the Don gave his second-in-command, and that was all that was needed. Nicola would always have Dante’s back, no matter what.
Returning the nod, Nicola moved in behind his Capo while pulling out his phone and attempting to call members of Alexa’s team, one by one.
He started with Anthony and waited for it to ring.
‘Ring, ring… ring, ring…’
The ringtone of Anthony’s phone sounded, and Nicola listened carefully to where it was coming from.
While Dante was busily finishing off the man pinned to the wall, causing him to cry out in terrible agonising pain, Nicola continued to follow the ringing sounds.
‘Ring, ring… ring, ring…’
The underboss cautiously stepped around the corner headed to where the set of elevators were located and stopped when he noticed Anthony lying still on the floor a couple feet in front of him.
A pool of crimson blood had formed around his mid-section and his clothing was covered in blood. So much that his shirt almost appeared to be red.
Was he dead?
Quickly crouching down over the apparently lifeless henchmen, Nicola held his fingers against the pulse point of Anthony’s neck, checking to see if he did happen to have a pulse or not.
It was faint, but it was there.
Anthony needed medical treatment if he were to live through this, and fast!
Noticing Dante now standing over his shoulder, Nicola turned his head to the side as he spoke to give his findings.
“He’s alive. But barely.” Nicola explained.
“Call our men. Have them transport him to the safehouse for treatment.” Dante commanded, c*****g his gun and heading for the elevators.
“I’m going to finish these f***s off, one by one.”
“Hold up, I’m coming with you.” Nicola insisted.
“I’ll make the phone call to our men from the elevator on the way up.”
There was no way that Nicola would allow his Capo to have all the fun on his own!

As Alexa continued to watch the door handle to her safe room vibrate with each powerful force thrown against it, she could hear the unmistakable sound of a phone ringing from the master bedroom.
But it wasn’t a ring tone she was familiar with.
It was one of the intruder’s phones currently ringing.
Pulling out his phone with a frustrated grunt, Boris answered it and spoke.
“It’s you… what the f**k are you calling for?” he demanded rudely.
A moment of silence as Boris listened to whoever was speaking to him on the other end of the line.
“Yeah, about that… we’ve kind of run into a bit of a… snag.”
Another moment of silence.
“Calm down! We think we’ve located the girl, but it seems that she’s locked herself away in some sort of an inbuilt vault here in the master bedroom. We can’t seem to break through the door. f**k knows what it’s made of…”
Boris continued to explain as two of his other companions continued working together, using a large metal shelf to ram against the door leading into the safe room, over and over.
‘BANG… BANG… BANG…’
“Look, we’re gonna have to try again sometime soon.”
Boris announced before listening to the shouting voice on the other end of the line.
“Hey! We’re running out of time here. The cops will be on our asses any minute!”
Boris argued angrily, as if the person on the other end of the line had insisted that they continue trying to break down the door to the safe room.
“Hey Boris!”
One of the Russians standing watch called out from the exploded entryway to the apartment as he stood and watched the elevator numbers climb, one by one.
“Someone’s using the elevator.”
“Na, f**k this!”
Boris cursed, hanging up the phone call and pocketing his phone before he turned to face the others attempting to break into the safe room.
“Let’s get the f**k out of here. We’ll come back for the Don’s woman another time.”
With that, the Russians threw the shelf aside and followed their leader as he headed out of the master bedroom and towards the stairs leading to the second floor of the penthouse apartment.
They were leaving.

After having made the necessary calls to have the badly wounded Anthony collected and treated back at their safe house, as well as attempting to get in contact with Alexa’s other three bodyguards, Nicola was left to ride the remainder of their trip to the top two floors in silence.
And Dante who stood with his head slightly bowed down and his blazing emerald-green eyes staring straight ahead was unusually silent.
“There’s no sign of Alexa’s other bodyguards downstairs and I can’t get in contact with either Carmen, Max or Dexter...”
Nicola pointed out as Dante remained completely still and silent whilst standing beside him.
“We can only hope they’re all upstairs right now, protecting Alexa.”
But the Don didn’t respond like Nicola thought he would after hearing this.
No, Dante was completely engaged in Reaper mode right now and hungry for his next kill.
Both Dante’s blood-covered hands were clasping at the handles of his beloved twin guns, with his tattooed knuckles turning a bright shade of white from the sheer tightness of his grip on them.
Nicola had never seen his Capo this enraged, and he had seen a lot of scary s**t from Dante in the past. But this, right here…
This was something else entirely.
It was as if his faithful leader was somehow possessed by something malevolent.
Together the two stood watching as the electronic numbers showing their current floor continued climbing, one at a time.
Three more floors to go…
Two more…
One…
Then, the elevator came to a halt and they braced for the moment that the doors would slide open.
And then the moment finally came.
‘Ding!’
The elevator doors slowly began to slide open…
