CHAPTER ELEVEN Alexa’s phone woke her from a deep sleep. She lay in her motel bed a minute, trying to get her bearings. From the lack of light peeking around the curtains she could tell it was still dark out. She fumbled on her bedside table for her phone, found it, and answered. This early in the morning it could only be bad news. “Hello?” Her voice came out mumbled, fuzzy. “Is this U.S. Deputy Marshal Chase?” The voice sounded official. Yes, it was bad news. She woke up a little more. “Yes, it is.” “This is State Trooper Fletcher. We met on the Tyson investigation?” “Oh yes, right.” She had no recollection of that. “I just heard that a woman was killed in El Rio Park last night.
