The car ride to school was pretty awkward. Adam and I just sat in silence the whole time, his radio was busted so, yeah, I can check awkward silence off of my bucket list. But to be honest I was glad that he wasn't trying to make small talk. After 20 long minutes of awkward silence we finally pulled into the school parking lot, Adam parked the car and was about to get out of the car before I grabbed his arm. He looked at me with a raised brow.
"Um... Can you do me a teeny tiny little small favor? Please?" I Asked in a small voice. He gave me a small reassuring smile that encouraged me to go on. "If anyone askes, can you tell them that I am your cousin who is going to live with you for a while?" He gave me a confused look.
"Why?"
"I- I just I don't really like people knowing that I am a foster kid, ya know?" A look of understanding flashed over his face.
"I'm sure they wouldn't care, most of the people here are pretty cool."
"Please?" I said in a pleading voice and I am sure my face looked a little like puss in boots right now. He went to go answer but a loud bang came on his car window, scaring the pants off of me might I add. Adam looked out of his window.
"Hey man, we've been waiting for you to get out of your car for like 5 minutes now!" The guy outside of the window said, "Or are you blowing us off to make-out with that chick?" He added chuckling. Both Adam and I looking at each other with disgusted looks on our faces. He and I soon laughing at each others faces and then we got out of the car. The wind had picked up and the cool breeze felt nice on my skin. A small smile appearing on my face. My brother and I used to climb up into our tree house when the winds got high, and pretended that we were on a ship in a storm in the middle of the ocean. I smiled a bit more at the thought.
"Who's the freak?" Someone with a very high pitched voice if I do say so myself- said, interrupting my thoughts. My smile replaced with the biggest smirk.
"Who's the Barbie? I thought this school was for real people?" I shot back, soon annoyed when her high pitched voice started screeching some words I couldn't exactly hear due to that fact that her voice sounds like a poor mouse being tortured.
"Woah woah, hold up Barbie" I interrupted "Who's stepping on a poor mouse?" The guys around her chuckled but she just looked confused. "Wait... Sorry, that was your voice." She glared at me and started screeching some more. I seriously cannot afford to go deaf, so I started walking away.
"Where do you think you are going b***h!?" She screamed at me.
"Wherever the bitches hang out." I said without looking back.
"Where the f**k did you find this girl Adam?" Some guy asked in between laughs. And then I was out of ear shot, I can only hope that he respected my wishes of not telling them that I am a foster kid.
Now... Where would one find the office...?
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
After finding the office which for some odd reason was all the way in the middle of the school, I was given a paper with my class schedule, locker number, and locker code. Locker 209... Locker 209... I repeated over and over in my head. Aha! Found it! Thought you could hide from me, eh locker? After about like 7 tries with my locker combination I finally got my locker open, I started un-packing my books that the lady in the office also gave me, into my locker when a girl opened the locker next to mine a little too hard and the corner of the locker hit my elbow causing it to bleed.
"I-I am so sorry, there usually isn't anyone at that locker and today hasn't really started out great so I was in a mood and I guess I opened the locker a little too angrily an-"
"Woah, deep breaths, deep breaths." I said trying to calm her down. Honestly my elbow hurts, but it is just a cut, and this girl was talking way too fast. She listened to me a took some deep breathes. "It is only a small cut, I am fine, I am not going to die. Calm down." I said like I was talking to a little 5 year old.
"I'm sorry." She said again, but more calm. "Please don't hit me." She said starting to sob. I pulled her into a hug. She hesitated but hugged me back.
"I wouldn't hurt you, do people here hurt you?" I asked as I pulled away, and she nodded her head still sobbing. This pissed me off, she seems so sweet, so gentle and people hurt her? Well not anymore, not as long as I am here. "Well, as long as I am here no one is going to hurt you, okay? I will keep you safe. Okay?" She looked at me long and hard, trying to see if I was serious, and I guess she came to a conclusion.
"Thank you.." She said with a small smile, and finally stopped crying. This made me smile and we hugged once more before I asked her to help me find my classes. Turns out we have the first few classes and lunch together, but the last two we didn't have together. So we decided to walk to home room together. The bell rang like 5 minutes ago, so we had to rush. We were in such a rush that we basically threw the door open and barged in. And all eyes turned toward us. I recognized Barbie from earlier, and Adam is in this class.
"Ms. Reed, why are you late?" The man who I assume is the teacher asked sounding a bit annoyed. He was tall, not very masculine, brown eyes, brown hair, and glasses but he somehow still managed to look intimidating. I looked over seeing the girl has totally frozen up and looks like a deer in head lights.
"D- Didn't the lady from the office call you?" I asked and he turned his glare onto me.
"And who might you be?" He asked with fake interest.
"I am Alex Freeman, I am new. The lady from the office was meant to call you to tell you that she and I were going to be late, because she was told to show me around the school." I have always been great at lying, it comes in handy for a girl like me. The teacher seemed to believe me and nodded.
"Ms. Reed, you may take your seat." He said and the girl gave a small nod and started walking to her seat mouthing a thank you. "Ms. Freeman? Was it?" He then asked me. I gave a firm nod. "Why don't you tell the class a bit about yourself." He said in a voice that told me he was not asking. I walked to the center of the room and sighed.
"I am Alexa Freeman, Alex for short." I said with a sigh. And that girl from this morning rose her hand. I rolled my eyes, "What?"
"Isn't that a boys name?" She asked smirking.
"It is." I said shortly before continuing. "I grew up in Boston, and... This is my favorite jacket, I pointed to my leather jacket that my mom and dad bought me for Christmas before they died. They bought a large so that I would be able to grow into it and wear it even when I was older.
"Why did you move away from Boston?" A tall masculine guy with dirty blonde hair, and green eyes asked me, he was wearing some flattering jeans, and a black skin tight shirt with a leather jacket on top.
"That is for me to know and for you to never find out." I said with a smirk and sat down in the only seat left available. Which was only a couple seats away from tall, dark and handsome.
