Warning. I used a term such as "a large black male" in this chapter. I am not attempting in any way, shape or form to be racist. I am simply telling you all that he is a black man and that he is part of Ava's pack. His mate and his child are also in Ava's pack and she loves them. I am not racist. I am for a fact, friends with people all over the world.
P.s.
I'm color blind. It doesn't matter if someone is black, white, tan or even orange. I'll see them as gray.
Ava's P.O.V
"Please, don't let him stay." I looked over at the golden haired girl. Her eyes were strange, but I could tell that she was afraid. I furrowed my brow. "Please, Luna. I'm begging you." I could tell she was only speaking to me. No one else was responding or reacting to her.
I opened my link to all of the males in my pack. "This wolf is no good for us. I fully believe that he has been hurting the three he was traveling with."
"What do you want to do with him?" A large black male stood up from his mate's side. He didn't bother using the pack link. He was strong enough to be an Alpha, but he didn't want the title.
I looked at the male who refused to submit to me. "Please hold him down, Ken." His full name was Kenneth, but he hated his name. I chose to call him Ken and he liked it. Not even a second later, Ken had brought the wolf down to his knees in front of me. "Tell me, did you hurt the three you were traveling with?"
"I would never!" He growled at me.
"You liar!" The girl shrieked. I looked over at her.
"He has?" She nodded. Zuri growled in my head. I looked back at him. He was glaring at the girl. "You know, I don't like liars. I know when a packmate is lying. I can feel it through the mark." I paused and squatted down in front of him. " I can tell you that she, is not lying. You know what that means, don't you?"
"You think I'm the one who's lying to you. I've never told a lie in my life." He glared at me and I narrowed my eyes at him.
I opened my link to Dad. "Can you hear me?"
"Of course I can, Princess. A name popped up on my list."
I smiled to myself. "Can you come to me please?"
"I cannot yet. Not until I get theis soul. It only has a few minutes left."
I didn't bother with answering because Ken and the man got into a fight. The man was attempting to get away while Ken was trying to keep him still. "ENOUGH!" Levi growled. I shivered at his powerful tone. I knew Ken wasn't affected by it, but the other man was. He lowered his in submission to Levi.
"Oh, hey Big Brother." I heard Henry from behind me. I turned and smiled.
"Hello, Henry." Dad walked over and pulled me into a hug. "Hello, Princess." Dad had his scary voice on. That usually meant that someone was dying here.
"Hi, Daddy. Glad you could make it." Dad smiled.
Penelope's P.O.V
I already knew this baby was going to be born early, but I didn't think he was going to be born at twenty-five weeks.
I kept my breath steady, but the grip I had on the railing on the stairs, made the wood creak and splinter around my hand. "Penelope? Are you okay?" I looked at Dad, it wasn't him though. It was his wolf, Hudson.
"I don't like lairs, so I'm not going to be one." I paused. "No. I'm not. This pup is early."
"It's not time yet! The pup won't make it if it's born this early!" Hudson started panicking.
"Calm down, Dad! I still have the wish Death gave me. I never cashed it in."
"Oh. Where is he?"
"Working. This pup isn't coming as fast as Ava did. I have time yet." Dad nodded and helped me down the stairs. I had told Dad and Death that I wasn't going to the hospital. I prefer not to go through that thing with the nurse again.
"He's to far. I can't even link him. Where did he have to go?"
I let out a small sigh. "One of pack members is going to die. Along with some other werewolf."
"She's going to be very upset about that. I heard that Levi said he would protect every one of them. That they would all make it to their destination."
"I know. Hopefully, she can save him in time."
Ava's P.O.V
I had a bad feeling about Ken being that close to him. "Ken! Get away from him!" I yelled. I watched as Ken jumped away right as the he-wolf went for his throat with his claws. Ken only got a small scratch across his arm. Seeing his blood, I growled and shifted quickly.
It didn't take me long to tear his throat out. He hurt one of my pack members, so I killed him. "Ava." Dad called to me. I heard him, but I couldn't bring myself to answer. I was still too pissed off.
I felt Levi get closer to me, but my growl stopped him. I knew this wasn't the was a Luna should act. This is what an Alpha was for. The fighting and punishing was his responsibility. A Luna was there to give advice and care for the pack like a Mother. I felt lost for what my roll really was. Was I a fighter, or was I a mother? I felt someone's arms wrap around me and pick me up off the ground. I yelped and wiggled around. "Put me down!" I yelled through the pack link.
"No. Not until my little sister is back."
"Henry! I swear to the Moon Goddess, I will kick your ass! Put me down!" I growled and wiggled in his arms.
"I don't care. I want my sister back. I know Levi is kind of afraid of you, but I'm not. I know you won't hurt us." I could feel the pack watching us and I could hear some of the pups giggling at me.
I huffed and went limp in his arms. "Fine." Henry chuckled and placed me back on the ground. I spun and took him down the the ground. I shifted to my human form. "But my paws or human feet, stay planted on the ground."
Henry laughed. "Alright. I won't pick you up anymore. Mind you, you used to love it when I carried you around everywhere we went."
I felt my cheeks burn. "Henry!" I punched him in the shoulder.
He laughed even more. "What? Am I not allowed to remember our past?" He sat up and I blushed even more.
"Oh shut--" I stopped and looked and my mark. It was throbbing . I looked around, but no one was hurt.
"Ava? What's wrong?" Henry touched my shoulder.
"Someone is in pain." I lifted my wrist. "I can feel it." I ran my eyes over every pack member that I could see, but no one was showing any signs of pain. "Mom!" I shouted and looked at Dad. "Mom's in pain! Go to her!" Dad looked between the shadows and the soul that floated above the dead body. "I got it! Go to Mom!" I yelled. I watched as Dad shifted and jumped into the shadows.
Now that I knew Mom was going to be okay, I let out a sigh. "Ava?" Levi called out. I looked at him and smiled. "Are you okay?"
I nodded. "Yes, I'm fine. Have the pack keep going East. It's time to keep moving."
"What are you going to be doing?" Levi tilted his head. I knew he was worried about me. I could feel it through our mate bond.
"I have to take that soul to where it belongs. No, neither of you can come with me. This is just something Dad and I can do. Right now that is." I saw a bit of hope die in their eyes. I sighed. "Henry, give me your phone." He quickly fished it out of his backpack and handed it to me. "I'll see if I can take pictures. Now go."
I turned away and walked over to the soul. When I touched it, I felt a surge of power and information run through me. "Death's Daughter. Welcome to the Reaper world. I didn't think I would get to meet you so soon." I heard a voice in my head. I knew it wasn't Zuri, because she was growling at the voice.
"Uh-- Who are you?"
"I am your father's assistant. He created me. I am, for a lack of better words, a living computer." I blinked a few times. "I guess Master Death didn't tell you about me. How rude of him." She actually sounded upset and a little annoyed at Dad.
"Do you have feelings?" I blurted out.
She laughed. "Yes. I have feelings and needs. I have wants and preferences. Come, we can meet in person."
I opened the shadows to the land of the dead. "Okay, I'm here. Where are you?" I was sceptical and a bit hesitant to meet her.
"Let go of the soul. It will go where is has to." I let go of the soul and right as I did that, the floor started raising up. "Don't be afraid. I'm bringing you to me. Pardon my assumption, but I guess you didn't get your Dad;s wings."
"Wings? Dad has wings?" I was shocked. Dad never showed me his wings, nor did he even tell me tell me that he had any in the first place.
"Yes. He let your Mother borrow them when she killed my favorite soul." The floor stopped and I could see a young girl hooked up to a whole bunch of wires. The wires disconnected from the girl and she opened her eyes. "Hi Miss Ava!" She stepped away and ran to me. She was wearing a pink floral dress, but her feet were bare. She looked like she was about twelve years old. "I'm Lilith! But please, call me Lilly. Master Death says that I don't need to have a name, but I wanted one so he gave me this one."
"Wait, wait, wait! How old are you? What does Dad need a little girl for? Why were you attached to that thing?"
She giggled. "I'm almost two hundred years old. I'm his assistant that he made. I have other bodies, if you want me to look older. Also, that thing, is my original body. As I got older and learned more things, I started to modify my body. Master Death likes this body because it helped him cope with not having his mate and daughter around."
"Lilith! I can hear you telling someone my secrets! Who are you talking to?!" I heard Dad yell from below us.
"Uh-oh. I'm in trouble." Lilly whispered.
"Yes, you are in trouble." Dad landed beside her. His wings were like a dragons wings. He looked at me. "Oh. Ava. It's you."
I nodded. "Yeah. It's me, Dad."
I watched as his cheeks turned pink. He cleared his throat. "So uh--- I uh---" He cleared his throat again. "I guess you met Lilith."
"Yup, and heard some of your secrets." I paused. "Dad, if you missed me that much, you could have come visit me you know."
"I couldn't. You looked a lot like your Mother and it hurt to look at you." He looked at the ground. I could tell that he was upset.
"It's okay, Dad." I hugged him. He hugged my head, simply because I still didn't have any clothes on. "Lilly, do you have any clothes that would fit me?" She nodded happily and ran off.
Once I had some clothes on, Dad gave me a proper hug. "I'm sorry if I sound rude but, Master Death, could you please leave? I want to get to know my new Mistress." Lilly smiled.
"Fine, but no more spilling my secrets." Dad glared at her, but she giggled.
"I make no promises, Master." Dad rolled his eyes and spread his wings. Once we knew for sure that Dad was gone, Lilly grinned at me. I could see in her eyes that she had no intention of keeping Dads secrets from me. "Want to know more?"
"I do, but I promised my Big Brother and my Mate that I would show them pictures of this place. They really want to know what it looks like." I held up Henry's phone.
She snatched the phone from me and took a picture of herself, her original body and a few more pictures of the souls. "Now us!" She pulled me close and we took a picture together. "There you go! Lots of pictures!" She was such a cheerful girl that I couldn't help but smile with her.
Henry's P.O.V
It's been an hour or so since Ava went to the land of the dead. I sighed. For some reason, I felt alone. Even if my mate was right beside me, I felt like I was alone. "With Ava being in the land of the dead, our bond with her isn't there. I can feel that it's gone right now." Kane said.
"I hope she comes back soon. I miss her." Kane whimpered and I knew he agreed with me. We weren't used to the bond not being there. We have always felt it since we could remember.
"Henry?" Ember, my beautiful mate called to me. I looked at her and smiled. "Are you okay?"
I wanted to tell her that I was fine, but I couldn't lie to her. I shook my head. "No. I'm okay, but not at the same time."
She tilted her head. "What do you mean by that?"
I smiled softly. "I have a very special bond with our Luna. She's, and this is going to be hard for you to understand. She's my older sister's daughter. Our Luna is technically my niece, but I call her my Little Sister and she calls me her Big Brother. I was the one to help my sister give birth to her. The Moon Goddess gave her and I a special bond. I'm her protector. I practically raised her with my Dad. I love her like a brother should, but this bond, give me a chance to feel what she is feeling, it's that same with her too. She can feel what I feel. However, my point is, I can't feel that bond while she is in the land of the dead. I'm physically okay, but I feel like I'm all alone."
I saw hurt and jealousy flash in her eyes. "But you aren't alone. You have me, your mate."
"I know, and I know that it will take time to understand. Please my love, try to see it from my perspective. Ever since I was five, I've had this this bond with her. The reason was simple for us having this bond. Her Mother died when she was two and her Father, left her with me and my Dad. They just recently came back to her. So please, my love. Don't be hurt by it or jealous." I pulled Ember into a tight hug.
"I'll try to understand." She said as she wrapped her arms around me.
"I'm always here for you. Please, come to me if you need help to understand it or just to talk. I'm your mate. This is what I am supposed to do for you."
Ember nodded and stepped away to keep up with the pack. "Henry!" I was tackled to the ground.
I groaned from the pain of hitting the ground. "Ow, Ava."
"Sorry. I've been gone for two days and I missed you." I sat up and ruffled her hair.
"You've only been gone for about an hour, Little Sister."
She blinked a couple of times then smacked herself in the head. "Time difference. To you, it's only been an hour, to me, it's been two days."
"Yeah, no. If you were gone for that long, I'd be calling Big Brother Death to bring you back. We are strong, but we still need our Luna." I smiled at her. "Now, speaking of calling, did you at least get any pictures to show me?"
"I did." She smiled and handed me my phone. I flipped through the photos she took. I wasn't expecting to see people in glass coffins. "That's what Dad and I see. They actually see something completely different."
I kept going through the photos and came across a girl. She had to be no older than twelve years. "Umm... Why is there a little girl there?" I looked at Ava. Was Death some sick psychopath that I should be worried about?
Ava giggled. "That's Lilith. If you ever meet her, call her Lilly. She's Dad's assistant. She's actually a computer. She's got multiple bodies that she's made but," She paused and flipped to a huge machine. "That's her original body."
"Wait, how old is she than?"
"She's two hundred or something like that. She just like this body the most because Dad gives in easily. She said it's because she's cute."
I chuckled and tucked my phone into my pocket. "Well, I'm glad you're back. I missed you, but I think I know who missed you more." I pointed to Levi, who was carrying a pup as it slept. She smiled and ran to him.
"This feels better. Both of our girls are here and safe." I smiled at Kane's words.
"I am too, but I think Ember is jealous of Ava. Try talking to her wolf. Maybe you can explain it better than I can."
"Of course I can. You humans don't know a thing about females." I rolled my eyes and him and he cut our link.
I kept at the back of the pack as we headed East. It may not be my job to be at the back, but I didn't mind it. This gave me a clear view of Ember and Ava. The two people in my life that I needed to protect the most.
Ava's P.O.V
"Ava, it's time to rest for the night." Zuri linked me.
I opened my link to the pack. "Stop here for the night. Get some rest, you all need it."
"Tomorrow, we need to go North-East. Something is over there for us." Zuri spoke.
"Have any idea of what it could be?"
"I don't know. It feels like something good." With that, she cut our link. I watched as everyone got settled down for the night. Many felt more secure in their wolf form. I didn't blame them. We were surrounded by trees and darkness. Anything could come out from anywhere at any moment.
"Ava." I looked at Levi. He smiled for me and offered his hand. "Let's go for a walk."
I took his hand and we walked around, just outside of the campsite. We didn't talk, just simply enjoyed each other being there.
When we got back to the camp, Levi laid down on his back. I snuggled up beside him. It wasn't long before he fell asleep, but I was still wide awake. I kept thinking about what was North-East of us. Zuri said it felt good, but I didn't feel anything. I felt like we should still be going East. I trusted Zuri, but this time, I just couldn't. "Zuri." I called to her.
"Yes?" She responded.
"Let's go North-East. Just us."
"Is that a good idea? We have our pack to worry about. I don't want anything to happen to them while we are gone." I giggled at her answer. "What's so funny?" She growled at me.
"It's nothing. Just you've grown up so much in such a short amount of time."
"Yeah well, I had to. We needed a pack and so, one of us had to grow up to run it."
"Well, I haven't gotten there yet. Let's go." I stood and snuck away, going North-East.
I didn't bother shifting, I just used my wolf speed in my human form to avoid ruining these clothes. "Stop! Something is coming!" Zuri yelled.
I stopped and looked around, but I couldn't see or hear anything. "Is anyone there?" I called out.
I heard a growl to my left. I turned and there stood an Alpha male. A wild wolf. Being in my human form was an okay decision at this moment. "His pup. is what we are here for." Zuri said. At that moment, I heard the sound of someone shifting. I turned and looked around, then I notice a newborn baby just behind the wild wolf.
The wolf turned around. He was looking at his pup, but I knew that he wasn't going to accept him. The wolf growled at the baby. "Please don't hurt him." I whimpered. The wolf looked at me, then took off into the forest. I quickly picked the baby up. "Henry. Wake up." I linked him.
"Ava? Why are you awake?" He sounded half asleep still.
"Henry! Get up!" I screamed through the link.
"Ouch! That hurt! What do you want?"
I growled at his attitude. "Come to me. Now."
There wasn't a reply from him, and the pup in my arms shifted back to his wolf form. His red fur was soft on my arms. He was born not too long ago. He still had his umbilical cord. i heard a rustle, I held the pup close and growled. I heard a whimper. "Calm down. It's just me." Henry's voice sounded in my head.
I let out a sigh. "You scared me." I whispered.
Henry now stood in front of me. He tilted his head. "Where did that come from?" He was looking at the pup in my arms.
"A werewolf pup, born to a wild wolf."
With that, Henry shifted. "You should leave it here. The parents might come looking for it"
"He already left. The pup has already shifted. He's brand new. He needs a mother who can feed him in both forms." I gave Henry a look. He knew I was soft when it came to children.
Henry sighed. "Fine, but you need to be more careful. That wild wolf could have really hurt you. Levi not I would be able to keep going if you died." He pulled me into a hug. "I love you, Little Sister, and I'm always going to protect you, but I can't do that if you take off and find pups in the middle of the night."
"I'm sorry, but let's go. I don't like this area anymore."
Henry nodded and we headed back to the campsite. When we got there, I noticed that Levi was awake and pacing around. He made sure not to wake anyone, but he didn't look happy. "I linked him. You can blame me for this one." Henry whispered.
I glared at him and he scurried away from me. I took a deep breath and walked over to Levi. "Hey." I said.
He looked at me, then with quick strides, he had me in his arms. "Goddess Ava. Please don't do that to me again. You scared me half to death."
I lifted the pup and showed Levi. "He's a newborn. He's a werewolf born to a wild wolf. I couldn't leave him out there."
Levi smiled and took the pup from me. "He's cute, but was he really worth putting yourself at risk like that?"
Zuri growled and forcefully took over our body. "Yes. He is worth putting us at risk. I felt him just as he was born, and if I feel a wolf who is meant to be a part of this pack, I will go and get them. I didn't realize this pup was about to be abandoned by his father. Ava did and so she went to him. If she had waited until the morning, this pup would have died. Could you live with that? Knowing you could save a pup, but never going to them? I know for a fact that Ava can't. Nor can I for that matter. I don't care how much of a risk it is, I will get my pack together whether I get help from you or not." Zuri took the pup back from Levi.
Levi stood there, shocked. Unable to say a word. I mean, Zuri did just tell him off. I'd be shocked too.
Zuri didn't bother giving me back our body. She headed right to a mother who had a pup about a week ago. After leaving the pup with her, Zuri shifted to our wolf form and curled up next to Henry. She knew Ember wasn't going to be happy in the morning, but she didn't care. Zuri was mad at Levi. I mean, even I was kind of mad at him. A pup deserves a life. No matter who their parents are.
