Strange Beings

“What do I do? If I pull it out it will bleed more and you will bleed out and die! If I don't take it out it might not come out anymore if it heals around it. I don't know what to do!”

“Get. It. Out.” He growled more and she grabbed it then and pulled it hard. It didn't come out so she tried again and it came out a bit more but not entirely. Blood was pouring from the wound and Kira looked scared. The others were just watching but they started pulling too and it ripped out. Blood gushed everywhere and he fell over. 

“Damn it guys… You should have left it in…” I flew over to them quickly and Ali and Kazuki came too. Ali healed him and he leapt at Kaz instantly. 

“I’ll kill you!” He leapt towards him and Kazuki just stood there not caring. 

“She told you not to go off on your own. I taught you a lesson.” He shrugged and walked away as Spyre kept running towards him. Kaz quickly turned and raised his bow as Spyre was about to jump at him and he pointed the arrow straight between his eyes. “I wouldn’t do that if I was you.” He held the bow steady and Spyre slid to a stop. For a moment they had an exchange of glares and Spyre growled. “Still want to attack me hatchling?” Spyre snorted and got ready to pounce. He leapt forward and tackled Kazuki. 

He stood on top of Kazuki and he smiled to himself. “Yes, yes I do think I’m still going to attack you. You are a human, learn your place!” Spyres claws were digging into Kazuki and he started to bleed. “I will kill you, one day.” He turned quick which dug his claws in deeper and went back by the others. 

Spike came back then. “What’s going on?” 

Kazuki stood up slowly holding his stomach. “Nothing, your hatchling was trying to prove himself, he did okay but he has a lot to learn. I am willing to teach him and the others if you wish.” Must be because of what happened with Chesha…. I thought, I hope Kazuki is okay.

“Hatchlings, here, now.” They hurried over and Spyre growled at me. Kira sat tall and watched me intently while Natsu hopped over. 

“Yes mamma?” Natsu looked confused. 

“Next time one of you gets injured while Icicle is with just have her freeze the wound. It will numb it so it doesn't hurt as bad  and it will stop most of the bleeding. It will make it slightly harder to pull things out though.” 

Spyre wasn’t listening because he was too busy watching Kazuki’s every move, Kira nodded and smiled brightly, Natsu rolled his eyes, and Icicle stood proud. “I promise I will help heal them if they need it mamma.”

“Good. Kazuki can you come here please?” He stood and walked over to me, he had a knife and was carving a stick to make another arrow.

“Yes?” 

I nodded towards Sypre and he looked at him. “Ah the troublemaker. Why you staring at me little hatchling?” He smirked and walked over to him. Spyre growled quietly.

 I looked at the knife in Kazuki’s hand and he was clenching it tighter now. I could see his knuckles turning white from the extra pressure as Spyre growled louder. The handle was made of deer antlers that had a wolf head carved into it and at the end a small metal hook led into the blade. Just by looking at it in the light I could see that it was sharp by the shining part around the curve of the blade. He took a step closer and Spyre growled more, smoke started coming from his nose and he snorted a bit of fire. “Get. Away. From. Me.” He roared loudly and fire came from his mouth. Kazuki laughed and put the knife away.

“Good.” He turned around and walked away still chuckling slightly. 

Spyre watched him walk away and he had a confused look on his face. “What?” He growled slightly and ran after him. “Where are you going!” He tackled him and had his claws against Kazuki's neck, he looked ready to rip it open.

“Don't you like your new flame?” Kazuki smiled and patted his head. “I got you mad enough that you would learn your flame from anger. I gave you your fire. Use it well and use it wisely because if you don’t you’ll end up dead.” He scratched the top of Spyres head where small nubs were sticking out. They were still very small but would eventually be great and useful horns.

“You really get on my nerves… but thanks I guess. Fire will be very useful.” He growled a bit and removed his claws from Kazuki's neck. Kira came back over by us then and she had tears in her eyes.

“I’m never going to get my flame….” She sniffled and looked up at me. 

“You will hun, give it time. He only got his because Kazuki gave it to him to teach him a lesson. Fire doesn’t usually work that way at all. It normally starts as globs that you spit out but when mad enough you jump straight to flames. Spitting fiery globs can be useful too and now he's skipped that step. That could cause troubles.” 

“Momma why could that cause troubles….?” 

“Well if he can't spit globs of fire then he can't shoot flaming globs onto other dragons to protect himself unless he learns it. He won't always be able to spit direct flame though. He will learn the gobs but it may be a bit harder for him. You’ll get yours soon enough.” I licked her and she smiled for a few seconds but then a frown spread across her face again and she looked deep in thought. I decided I would leave her to think and I’d go check on Spike and Ali. As I walked away I could already hear her begging Kazuki to get her to use her flame. I sighed and continued. I nuzzled Spike and he glared down at me a bit. 

“Have you forgotten that you have a nose horn? That hurts!” He growled quietly, he then saw the hurt look on my face and he held me under his wing. “I’m sorry but you have to be more careful.” 

I nodded and licked his nose and then we laid down and cuddled for a bit while I thought about the hatchlings. They are so small and not even a week old yet, they are fragile and Kazuki doesn't seem to want to go easy on them. I'm a bit worried honestly. They better watch themselves around him, he won't hesitate to act against them. Hmmm, I wonder-.

“Mamma…?” My thought was interrupted by Natsu, he was sitting in front of me and Kira walked over then too. I must have been really deep in thought because I hadn't noticed them. “Mamma whats wrong?” 

“Nothing Natsu I'm just thinking.” I licked them both and Kira smiled brightly, the end of her tail started to glow blue along the frill. I didn’t know what to make of it. “Kira…”

“Yes mamma?” She saw the strange look on my face and she frowned again, “What is it mamma? You said nothing is wrong, don’t lie to us.”

“Your tail was just…. Did you feel anything just now? How did you feel?” I watched her tail as it started to fade a bit. 

“My tail was what? I didn't feel anything. What you mean by did I feel anything? I'm confused mamma.” She looked back at her tail and stared at it for a second before turning back to me.

“Your tail was glowing bright blue, it still is a little….” 

Natsu then turned to look. He smiled and clawed at it like a wolf pup would to its mother's tail.  

“Cool! Guys come look!”

“Mamma what is it doing! Should I be scared? Ahhhh! Mamma! Mamma! Make it stop!” It instantly stopped glowing blue and turned a slight green color. 

“Kira stop! Calm down and sit, lift your tail so I can see.”

She hopped one last time and slowed to a stop, she nodded and sat in front of me and did as I said. “Mamma….” 

“You'll be fine just stay still and let me see, it changed to green.” She nodded again and it changed to a bluish-greenish color. “What are your emotions, what do you feel?”

“Kinda worried but I trust you and know you'll figure it out so I’m trying to calm down. Why?”

“It seems you and your sister Icicle both have special powers based on your emotions, when she's scared or sad she turns to ice, but when she's happy she melts into a small blue dragon, unless she wants to be ice that is. I love her ice blue eyes too. Eyes like your father almost, blue with white streaks, it fits her ice abilities. Your eyes are green and blue depending on your emotions, same with your tail. You both are very special. I can't wait to see what the others are like.” 

“Spyre has his fire and Natsu I'm not sure, he's always off doing stuff by himself and doesn't talk much. It's like he feels he doesn't fit in. I think I’ll talk to him after this. Do you know about my tail yet mamma?”

“Not really Kira, I don't know what it's doing but you just got it recently, it may change or get brighter or do something after a while. Let's wait and see. For now it's just around the frill on your tail, it may change to be your entire tail or your underbelly or some other spot. I'm not yet sure.” 

“Okay mamma. Ima go over by Natsu.” She smiled brightly showing her teeth and and hopped away by Natsu, she tried talking to him and he growled a bit. He walked past me and away from her. 

“Where are you going Natsu? Your sister wanted to talk to you.”

“Mamma why is she trying to talk to me?”

“She's your sister, she wants you to be happy and not feel left out, why?”

“I like to be by myself mostly, sometimes I’ll be social but not right now.” He growled again and Spike heard it. He walked over to us and growled loudly at Natsu.

“Are you growling at your mother?!” He glared at him a bit. 

“No, I was growling at my sister….”

“That's not much better hatchling, watch it. Be respectful.” 

He patted Natsu's head gently and got bit by him, “I am NOT a hatchling!” 

“Oh really,” Spike smiled brightly, “Then where are your wings? Can you use your fire yet? How strong is your flame?”

“Not yet but soon and it will be strong!” 

I sat there listening to them argue for a bit but I got sort of tired so I layed my head down and shut my eyes.

I rolled over and yawned then heard a small scream. “Mamma!!” It was kind of muffled, just then I realized I had rolled onto Icicle. My back was getting really cold so I sat up quick and checked on her. 

“Are you alright? I’m sorry, I was asleep. You're not hurt are you?” She looked like she was about to cry so I wrapped my tail around her and held her close, “It’s okay, I’m sorry.” 

She clung tight to my tail and wouldn't let go. “I’m alright, you scared me more than hurt me.” 

“Are you sure?”

“Yes mamma, I fine.” She smiled up at me but I wasn't sure if she was telling the truth or not. I looked around and Spike and the others were gone, I was alone with the hatchlings. 

I didn't know what I should do. Should I just watch them or should I do something with them? Maybe I should teach them something? They are young though…. Hmm… I decided, “Hatchlings! Come here please.” They all scurried over quickly and sat in front of me. 

“What mamma?” Kira laid down by Icicle and her tail started glowing a bit, it was kind of purplish this time and it flickered. This was definitely something to figure out. 

“Does anyone know where Spike, Ali, and Kazuki went?”

Natsu nodded, “I was walking away and was gonna look for a cave or something to play in when Father landed in front of me. He asked where I was going so I told him, I asked him where he was going and he said him and the others were going to some forest for food.” He smiled that he was the only one that knew and the others shrugged. 

“And did you find any caves or anything Natsu?” 

“Not really… I thought I found one but then I smelled the scent of humans so I turned around, it was out past the tree line there.” His small talon was pointed towards a line of trees that was stretching across the vast, empty field that we were in at that moment. 

As I glanced in that direction I saw a long trail of thick, black, smog flowing into the air. The wind was blowing it in the opposite direction of us so that must be the reason I didn't smell the smoke. “We need to move. Now. Next time wake me up and let me know when there are humans nearby. We are lucky you could smell the humans over the smell of the smoke, especially with the wind blowing the other way.”

“Momma what about Father, Ali, and Kaz? We can't leave without them, they will come back here and the humans may see them flying.” Kira said looking around in the air for them.

“Yes hun but we have to go. It's either that or risk all of your lives. They can take care of themselves but I can't protect myself and all of you. There's no way we are staying here. We can call out for the others or try and search for them but those are our only options.” 

“But momma what about Kazuki? Can't he reason with them?” Natsu questioned. “They are both humans after all.” 

“Natsu it may not be humans, it could be a number of other things as well that live similar lives to humans and they may not trust a stranger with a bunch of dragons. That may just cause a bigger war. Now no more delays. We leave now. If you have anything left to do, do it now then climb atop my back when you are ready.”
