Aki led Kelsi to the first floor meeting room.
“Jacob’s in there, setting up his equipment,” Aki said casually when they arrived at the door.
Kelsi nodded, but she didn’t make any move to open the door.
“What’s up?”
She bit her lip. “Nothing. Just a little hesitant.”
“Don’t worry. He’s one of the best,” he said, the flatness in his voice softening a bit. “It’s going to be official, too, even if you aren’t going through the conventional process. He has inside contacts that work for the government. It’ll be like you were born and raised in this crooked city.” He gave a short, dry laugh.
“Really?”
“Yeah.”
“Okay,” she said, sighing deeply. “What does he need me to do?”
