Everything changed after that. Not visibly. Not openly. But something between them had shifted—something irreversible. Li Yue felt it in the way he looked at her now. Less distant. More dangerous. More… personal. And that was exactly why she should have been careful. But she wasn’t. Because she wasn’t the only one being watched anymore. “You’re getting close to him.” The voice came from the shadows of the corridor. Li Yue didn’t startle. She had expected this eventually. “You’ve been observing me,” she said calmly. “A necessity.” A figure stepped forward—cloaked, composed, unreadable. “You don’t belong to this palace,” the stranger continued. “And yet you’ve managed to place yourself beside the most dangerous man in it.” Li Yue’s gaze sharpened. “What do you want?” “A warning.” Silence. “He is not someone you can afford to trust.” Her chest tightened—but she didn’t show it. “I’m not naïve.” “Then prove it.” The figure stepped closer, lowering their voice. “There is a meeting tomorrow night. Western wing. If you want to survive here… you’ll be there.” Li Yue didn’t answer immediately. Because she understood what this was. A test. A choice. And whichever path she took— It would lead to consequences.
