Chapter 3

I rolled out of my bed, tumbling down from my bed in a hard thump. I couldn't see clearly, where on earth was my glasses?.

I searched through the bright light with my blurry vision trying to reach out for my glasses.

Without it am like a blind person. I wouldn’t say really blind just like an emphasis to say how much I really need it to function visually in all my daily activities.

For today am only have one lecture in the afternoon, I am going to use that as an opportunity to go out for a run this morning maybe I could burn out some calories in me. The last thing I want is gaining more pounds due to my laziness.

Yeah like duh am working on my 68.2 weight. Am watching my diet and all but every single day it was like I gain more.

By the time I returned back home, I could hear a very horrible voice of someone singing that was coming out from the bathroom.

Lilian is home

I removed my head phone and threw it on the couch, while I made my way into the kitchen.

"Welcome home Lilian"

She switched off the shower "Thanks love, you missed me too much?"

"NEH not even close" I zoned out and blushed out remembering the beautiful moment I had talking With Chris face to face for thé first time in my life. We both lived in same dorm for over a year now but yesterday was the first time, was the first golden time I had such a lengthy conversation with him.

"Awwn then that's more than much then, I would never leave your side babe"

"Say that to Collins not me" I said laughing hardly. While I tried not thinking about Chris as I turned on the kettle to make some hot coffee.

Am sure she's pouting now.

Walking to class, I and Lilian had no details about what we were having today. I’m sure my phone told me I had class today in the afternoon but the funny thing was when I saw that it was a course that I am sure isn’t registered in my curriculum. Seeing student talking about the new course on the group was the only way that convinced me.

I got too carried away talking about Chris to Lilian while we both forgot about the class we were having which made us both an hour late.

We both went downstairs to check on our second semester timetable on the notice board.

Human relations

"Since when did we start learning that course?" Lilian asked confusedly

I gave her an equal stare with hers "I dunno babe, Just started seeing in our class group when we got here ,whatever it is we are damn late. Let's go find out and get our asses in place"

"True"

We walked back upstairs, finally asking the students affairs teacher about the course. He later told us it's a new course that was introduced in the school and we were gonna learn more about it in class, we got our direction and finally arrived at a large hall.

We quickly rushed to the back doors of the hall trying to push it open but we couldn't, the doors where locked.

That's means we have to follow through the front doors and everyone was gonna see us and we were gonna hear the talk of our lives concerning our I late coming.

We both screamed out in frustration

"Seems like we have to go through the front doors then" stated Lilian.

"Yeah true, we don't have to get scared we are just gonna encounter the lecturer and our course mates that's all. After all we've been learning with them for like a year and right?" I said with nervousness written all over my features.

"Yeah" replied Lilian "There is no need for us to be scared Jennifer. We re adults here not run wisest high school students haha"

With that we both pushed the front doors open, cool air latched on our skins almost freezing. Thanks for my granny sweater I was putting on.

We entered closing the door slowly, rushing to go and get a sit. Halting briefly as I saw the large number of students in the hall.

Wait woah it wasn't just my course mates that where in the hall, some seniors where here too.

I don't understand

And Chris was here also, looking directly at me. His dark eyes penetrating deeply into my soul. Gosh my heart was given me flip-flops right now.

We were greeted by an angry stare of a very fair blond lady on glasses, she was tall , thin and looked too poised like a personal instructor from England. Behind her stood a man he was also tall but his skin was tanned compared to hers , but he more welcoming than her.

They were both standing on the podium with a projector behind them. The fair lady dropped her lecture note on the lectern, crossing her arms on her chest.

"And who are you two?" she asked rudely.

"Am Lilian and this is Jennifer." she said pointing at me.

The lecturer eyed me up and down, then raised her brows at me.

I guess I look very bad; I was on a black skirt that stopped exactly under my knees, a white girly top and my old granny's sweater.

"Why are you both late to class, in less than 20mins this class would be over."

The whole attention of the class was centered on us, I felt like peeing in my pants

"We are so sorry miss, we knew nothing about this course and before we could figure out our location it took ages" said Lilian

"Am going to pardon the both of you due to the fact that's this our first meeting and class together"

"Thank you miss" we both say in unison.

"You can go and take your seat, and do that quietly" She warned

We took our seats in the front of the class, luckily they was free seats for the both of us.

The lecturer cleared her throat, adjusted her mouth piece "My name is miss Lauretta, am going to be taking you on human relations, and this gentleman by my side is Mr Gregory and my assistant"

She said looking directly at me before looking at Lilian. "Now that's enough introduction for the day, you both save your names for our next class." she said curtly

"Now where did we stop?" she asked facing the class, smiling widely

"The trip" shrieked some students behind us excitedly from the crowd

"The trip?" I and Lilian turned to each other the same time before turning our attention to the miss Lauretta .

"Yes the trip" she clicked her fingers together like she just won something.

"This human relations course is new to this school and due to the fact that some of us here are about graduating and the rest are growing up, I and my colleague had decided of a way to try to relate our course to you all in a faster and more understandable way. So am going to let him take over from here"

The crowd cheered as we all welcomed Mr Gregory.

He took his place on the podium, adjusting his earpiece "Hello everyone"

"Hi Mr Gregory!"

He chuckled "Well I guess I don’t have to introduce myself any longer"

Everyone laughed hardly, even miss Lauretta was smiling. I am already loving this man

"Like Miss Lauretta had spoken, I need to broaden you all on this trip we are going to be having"

The hall grew silent while he spoke.

"Now not everyone is going to get selected to join in this trip"

There was lot of sad whining in the hall.

"But surely there's a next time!" he added

There was lot of booing sound in the hall. "Oh please! Students let's be reasonable, we are more than hundreds right now in this hall taking this course, due to the fact that you are all mixed with with different levels. Taking you all on the trip is going to be clustered and confusing and that’s not how a trip should be, not the one we have planned already"

The hall grew silent again, but this time with an understanding.

"Thank you, so we are going to decide where this trip is going to take place. But firstly there's gonna be this little test we are going to take and then we would move to the oral"

Lilian grew still at my side, I felt like laughing hard right now at her.

They was yelling, whining and shrieking sounds from the crowd even some students where booing again.

"That's enough students, you all should know that not everyone can go for this trip that's why we are going through this test" pleaded Mr Gregory

He has a point though.

I wonder how this test is going to be, like seriously it's human relationship so it's going to be easy Right? But am not a social person I have little chance of passing this test.

"Now thank you till we see next time students" he bowed a little leaving the podium so miss Lauretta could take her place.

We all cheered for him still, seriously the man has manners, I like him.

"Now that’s enough cheering" ordered miss Lauretta.

After the hall grew silent again she continued "Mr Gregory has told you all, you are going to write a test and also do some oral. It's not hard all you have to do is to be yourself and try your best. It's human relationship after all, we all have met people, you have friends. You relate with them, you are not aliens so I don't see how this should be a problem"

"Yeah!" agreed someone from the crowd.

"Good, now you see that's it. So there a high chance of you or you, to get a chance of going for this trip" she said pointing from one student to another

Everyone started clapping.

"Now until our next class, let's call it a day and prepare for your test. It's starts from today, you won’t know" She winked then left the podium, to arrange her bags and with that they both left the hall.

"Arrrrg, i was beginning to like this course and now all of the sudden it's scary" whinned Juliana

"Awwn you don't have to be scared, you know even if you don't make it you would still get in" said Rita.

Above of all places this girl's left their seats to come to the front to make their discussions, so they could what? Annoy me?

"True Rita, my daddy my backbone would always be there for his Disney"

There all laughed. "Unlike some people that if they've failed, they've failed" said Stella

"And even if they had someone the person can't even help" added Rita

"Since they are...?" asked Juliana mockingly

"Since they are both poor as wrench" said the girls in unison.

My vision where already blurry due to the hot tears that where packed in it and were already streaming down. I pushed my chair back angrily then ran out of the class with Lilian behind my heels.

I was in the girls restroom crying hysterically, my face red and puffy with Lilian tapping my back gently.

"It's okay, all is good Jenny you don't have to cry over those bitches just ignore them"

"You are right Lilian, I don't have to but everytime I do so they come back at me with something more painful than the last time "

"Yes dear and that's why you should be strong, because with or without them someone is going to get on your nerves just because you came here through a scholarship exam not like you are the first a student here on scholarship "

I sniffed wiping the back of my hands on my snorts.

"Yes I’m not the first student to get into this school through the scholarship but asides from everything I am the poorest and most irritating person ever in this university ! " I cried out bitterly

"No Jennifer you are wrong, you may not be the richest person in this school but surely you are amongst the smartest and not close to irritating. Unlike those spoilt scums of sperm that got to live. All you have to do is ignore them because there are irrelevant and meaningless "

"But how long? When are they going to just stop humiliating me?" I asked sadly.

Lilian just stared at me like have grown a second head "Are you going to like seriously ask me that? We both know how those girls are and they keep doing what they do because they know how you get affected when they hurt you with their words, What you should be asking me is how you can overcome them, how you can listen to their words without feeling a thing and laughing over it like it means nothing to you, that's what you should be asking me not when they are going to stop humiliating you, because babe like it or not they are going to be doing that as long as they see you, but when they see you don't give a damn about what they say or do to you then surely they would back off" She gave me her prep talk in the most intriguing and fascinating way that it can ever boost my ego.

That made a ding in my head, like that's what I should do all these while and am here in this damn restroom crying over some useless set of young adults that wants me to feel bad about myself.

I pushed my self up from the ground turning to the mirror, I look horrible "You are right Lilian, that's exactly what I should do, why stress over them bitches and 'em useless ass snitches?"

Lilian stood up, taking her place beside me smiling widely "Now my baby is back to life"

"Yeah she is, she sure is" I said smiling at her through the mirror

"Now wash your face, it's so red please we need some pale in there"

I laughed out loudly before doing as I was instructed, removing my glasses .

After I was done I inhaled loudly before checking out my reflection, I looked a little bit better now.

"Now I think am ready to go out" I said after putting on my glasses

"I don’t think so" Lilian put her hands into her pocket and bright out her powder « Luckily for you i had my emergency powder here with me " She dusted the powder smoothly on my face doing what she could on me.

"Yes now you look better. We are going out anyway let's go eat dinner in some fancy restaurant. Bills on me"

"That's a good idea, you are the best. But we are not allowed to leave the school premises when the semester is in session Lilian. You almost made me forget!"

"You don’t have to worry about that Jennifer. I have my ways "

"Oh, really?" I smirked " I hope we wouldn’t get into trouble the last thing I’d want to do is anything that will ruin my scholarship "

"Why I’m earth would Let you do something that will ruin your scholarship I know how much it really means to you. We are just going out to eat and not killing somebody Jennifer "

" Alright I trust you but I don't think I have the energy to cook anyways, but we have to go back to the dorm to change into something more appropriate and comfortable for dinner"

"Yes, I also need to change too" said Lilian while she nodded at me.

With that we interlinked our arms leaving the restroom, while joking and laughing over some things. Forgetting the pain Juliana and her clique caused me and seeing nothing but positivity ahead of me.

And a worthy friendship sometimes is all you need as long as they have your back in all wars and battles????.

Pulling you up in your hard times

And bracing you against all pains

Not friends that shows up only when you are celebrating forgetting the pain you had to go through to get there. ??.
