Sebastian's Acceptance

378 Words
“Grace,” he said softly, his voice a threadbare whisper. “What happened?” The memories surged, threatening to drown me. “My father,” she began, her voice trembling. "He was a monster, Sebastian." The infirmary walls seemed to close in on me, the sterile scent of antiseptic clinging to my skin. Grace lay before me, her body a canvas of pain, and I couldn’t tear my eyes away from the bruises that marred her delicate features. She was both fragile and fierce—a survivor. Her hesitation was a chasm between us, and I leaned closer, desperate for answers. Her fingers traced the edge of the hospital sheet, and I glimpsed vulnerability—the kind that had been hidden behind her strength for far too long. “My father,” she began, her voice trembling. “He was a monster, Sebastian. Not just physically, but in every way that matters.” My fists clenched. How could a man harm his own child? The rage simmered within me, threatening to consume reason. “Why didn’t you leave?” I asked, my voice harsher than I intended. “Why endure it silently?” Her eyes met mine, and I saw rage there that showed her spirit was strong but I also saw, fear that went beyond the physical pain. “Fear,” she confessed. “Fear that no one would believe me. Fear that my shame would extend beyond our home. And fear for my life, Sebastian. Shame that I couldn’t protect myself.” Grace spoke but it felt like she was screaming. I wanted to tear through time, find her younger self, and shield her from the blows take her pain away. But the past was unyielding, and all I could do now was hold her hand, my touch a promise. “You’re not in danger anymore,” I vowed. “I’ll hunt down every demon that dared to hurt you. And when I find your father, he’ll answer for every bruise, every scar and every tear. ” Her gaze held mine, and in that dimly lit infirmary, I glimpsed something fragile—a spark of hope. Perhaps safety wasn’t an illusion. Perhaps we could forge it together, two broken souls seeking solace in each other’s arms.
