“Murderer!” a voice cried out, and she saw a small group of people staring down the alley at what had just transpired. She ran. To be caught as a thief was terrible enough. Adding the murder of a nobleman to such a list of crimes was indeed a death sentence. She cursed herself. Stabbing him in self-defense would have been bad enough, but with charm and a large enough bribe, she could have bought her way out of it. For murder, not even her charm, good looks, and all the coin she had would save her from the gallows.
