" During a charity event, Ava helps Adrian in taking care of the twins. Adrian sees her strength and starts to admire her more deeply. A slow spark begins between them".
The cole mansion was unusually lively that week.
The annual Cole foundation Charity Gala was coming up and every corner of the estate buzzed with activities. Florists, caterers and decorators filled the halls.
Ava watched the chaos unfold from the staircase as Emma tugged at her sleeve.
" Will there be balloons?"
" Maybe not balloons". Ava said, laughing, " but there'll be lights and music".
Adrian appeared behind them, adjusting his cufflinks. " It's an event for donors, not a birthday party", he said - though the faint amusement in his eyes gave him away .
" You're going too?" Emma asked eagerly.
" I have to", he said. " It's my company's event". Ava smiled. " Then we'll be cheering for you from here".
Adrian hesitated, glancing at her. " Actually, I might need your help tonight".
" My help?" she repeated.
He nodded. " You're good with people - and the twins adore you. I'd like you to come along, as their guardian. You'll make them more comfortable".
Ava froze. " To the gala? I -I dont even have a dress for something like that".
Adrian's lips curved slightly. " That's easily fixed".
By evening, a soft blue gown hung in her wardrobe - elegant yet simple, chosen by Mrs. Lane. When Ava put it on, she barely recognized herself.
Downstairs, Adrian waited with the kids. When he looked up and saw her, the air seemed to still for a while.
" You look...". He paused, searching for words. " Lovely". Ava smiled, blushing. " Thank you . you cleaned up pretty well yourself".
The gala shimmered with chandeliers, laughter and music. Ava guided the twins through the crowd while Adrian spoke with investors and journalists.
At one point, she overhead a guest whisper, " That must be the new nanny. she's not exactly what I expected ".
Adrian's sharp gaze turned towards the speaker, and his voice was cool but firm. " She's part of my family tonight. show some respect".
The woman flushed and turned away. Ava startled, met his eyes across the room. He gave a small nod - protective, steady.
Later, when the twins fell asleep on a couch in the lounge, Ava stepped outside the balcony for some air. The night was clear, city lights twinkling below.
Adrian joined her quietly.
" You handled tonight well", he said. " You have a way of making things seem... lighter".
She smiled softly. " You don't need to thank me, Mr.Cole. You're doing your best - and that's more than enough for your kids ".
He looked at her, really looked, as if seeing something he hadn't before. " You keep saying that like you know me", he murmured.
" Maybe I do", she said gently. " A little".
For a moment, they stood close - the music faint in the distance, the air warm between them. Adrian's hand brushed hers, just slightly.
Neither moved away.
Then Emma stirred inside, breaking the spell, Ava turned quickly, her cheeks as red as tomato. " Goodnight, Mr. Cole", she whispered.
Adrian watched her go, his chest tight in a way he hadn't felt in years.
Something about Ava Martin had found its way past his walls - and he wasn't sure whether to let her in or run before it consume him.
