" Ava and Adrian begin to share small conversations - late night talks over tea, accidental smiles. Adrian opens up about his wife's death and the guilt he carries. Ava listens, offering understanding instead of pity".
It started with small moments.
Ava would catch Adrian watching from the hallway as she read bedtime stories, or standing quietly in the garden while the twins laughed. He never joined in - but he didn't leave, either.
One morning, after a night of heavy rainfall, the twins begged to play outside in the puddles. Ava hesitated. " Your dad might not - "
" Please!" Emma said, clasping her hands. " Just for a little while".
Ava smiled. "Alright, but rain boots first!"
Ten minutes later, laughter echoed through the garden. The twins splashed and danced, raindrops glittering on their hair. Ava joined in, her jeans soaked and her laughter ringing louder than theirs.
From the balcony above, Adrian watched again - but this time, he smiled.
When Ava turned and saw him , her cheeks flushed. she waved playfully, holding up one of Ethan's boots. " You have to admit, they're having fun!" she called out. Adrian chuckled - a quiet, genuine sound. " I'll send towels", he replied before disappearing inside.
That evening, a soft knock came at Ava's door. she opened it to find Adrian holding two steaming cups of tea.
" I thought you might be cold after your puddle adventure", he said.
Ava laughed, surprised. "Thank you. you didn't have to".
" I know", he said simply, stepping inside.
They sat near the window, the rain still tapping gently against the glass. For the first time, the silence between them wasn't awkward.
After a long pause, Ava asked, " Were you always this serious, Mr.Cole?"
He raised an eyebrow. "Serious?"
" Yes. I'm starting to think you were born in a suit". He chuckled softly. " Maybe I was . My father believed emotions were a weakness. I learned early to hide them". " Doesn't seem like it's working ", she teased. " You smiled today".
Adrian glanced at her, caught off guard. " I did, didn't I?" They both laughed - quietly, but sincerely.
For a moment, the distance between billionaire and nanny disappeared. it was just two people, sharing warmth in a cold world.
When Adrian finally stood to leave, he hesitated at the door. " Ava ". he said softly, " thank you.... for bringing light back into this house ".
As the door closed behind him, Ava stood still, the sound of his voice echoed in her heart. Something was changing - not just in the mansion, but between them. And she wasn't sure whether to stop it or let it grow.
