" When one of the twins fell sick, Ava rushes back to care for him. Seeing her devotion, Adrian realizes he's been a fool. He admits his fear of losing someone again - and that he's already fallen in love, with Ava.
Three days had passed since Ava told Adrian she would leave.
The mansion felt quieter - too quiet. The kids noticed immediately.
" Why is Miss Ava not coming for breakfast?" Emma asked, eyes wide.
" She's... taking some time off", Adrian said, but even him can hear the hollowness in his voice.
Ethan frowned. " She wouldn't just go".
Adrian looked down at his untouched coffee. " I gave her reasons to"..
That afternoon, rain poured hard against the windows. The kids were playing in the study when Ethan suddenly began to cough - deep, rough, uncontrollable.
" Emma, get Mrs.Lane", Adrian said, rushing to his son's side. But the boy's breathing grew shallow, panic sets in.
Before he could call for a doctor, the door burst open.
Ava.
She had come to collect the last of her things - and found the house in chaos.
Without hesitation, she knelt beside Ethan, holding his hand. " It's alright, sweetheart slow breathe, okay? I'm here". Her calm steadiness soothe the boy until the doctor arrived.
An hour later, Ethan was resting peacefully in bed, his breathing back to normal.
Adrian stood in the doorway, watching Ava adjust the blankets - " You came back", he said.
" I heard he was sick", she said, eyes glistening. " I couldn't stay away".
For a moment, neither spoke. The rain outside had softened to a drizzle.
Adrian took a step closer . " I owe you an apology. I let other people's opinions control me. i thought i was protecting my family - but was only pushing away the person who helped us feel like one again".
Ava looked at him, torn between relief and hurt. " You made me feel like i dont belong here".
" You do", he said firmly. " You always do". She hesitated, her voice trembling. " And what about those rumors?"
He shook his head. " Let them talk. They don't know that you saved my children - and me ".
Their eyes met, and for the first time, there was no walls between them.
" I was afraid to love again", Adrian said softly, " but you made me remember what it feels like to love".
Ava's lips curved into a small, emotional smile. " Then maybe it's time we both stopped being afraid".
As the twins stirred in their sleep, Adrian reached for her hand - not as an employer, but as a man finally ready to let his heart be seen.
