I didn't give him another look and turned to leave. But I only took a few steps before the world went dark and I collapsed. When I woke again, the sharp sting of disinfectant filled my senses.
I was lying in an ICU bed, tubes running in and out of my body. Outside the ward, raised voices filled the hallway. Through the glass, I could see three men standing there.
Victor was gripping that thick medical report. His hands were shaking so badly he could barely hold the pages steady.
"The hospital director said the cancer has already spread everywhere. Severe liver and lung failure. This is not an act! This is a true end-stage disease," Victor's voice trembled.
