Episode 18

Miane's POV

We were outside for about an hour when it started to rain so we only got to test one power and that was to control water although I could only lift a little bit of water.

The rest of the day we spent indoors listening to stories that Drake tells us. Seeing that he has been around for thousands of year's he has quite a few of them. Later on, we all played some board games. We all ate dinner together to celebrate that the whole family was together for the first time. Jeandre and I only went to our place after twelve that night and I was too tired to even try to have s*x with him so we just showered together and went straight to bed.

The next morning I woke up alone in bed Jeandre left me a note on the door that said "Good morning beautiful I have a few things to do today but I will see you for lunch. I love you." I smile as I read the note, a month ago I never would have thought that my life would be like this. I was just a normal teenage girl living a completely normal human life and now I'm a supernatural being. After I had breakfast I sit down in my library with the paper that has the riddle on it. I get a piece of paper and a pen so that I can try to solve this riddle. I have nothing but time on my hands so why not make good use of it. The paper has two short riddles on it and one longer riddle. I write the first one down. It passes through a tree without rustling any leaves. The second one says

It breaks but never falls. And the third one says Bright as diamonds, loud as thunder. Never still, always falling. A thing of wonder comes in close. Smaller me is fun bigger is danger. I read them again out loud and as I read them I answer them. And suddenly the riddles on the page disappear and new words form on the page. I fold the paper and stuff it in my jean pocket. I know exactly where the portal is but that's not all that the gods revealed to me on the paper and I run downstairs as fast as my legs could carry me. "Grandpa, grandpa where are you?" I call loudly as I make my way to the first floor. Drake and my grandfather come rushing out of the office. "What is it, honey? Did something happen?" Grandpa asks me while looking at me shocked. Think Miane think quick "Grandpa I just had a terrible dream about you and I just wanted to make sure you were fine." I lied feeling guilty for this little lie I just told grandpa. "I'm fine and still healthy as can be honey," he says while he hugs me tight I see Jeandre walking in and I make my way to him. "Hey, can we go for a walk? I had a nightmare just want to get my mind off of it." I lie again just to get outside of the house. "Hey babe sure," he says as he takes my hand and leads me outside. As soon as the door closes behind us I start to walk faster in the direction of the forest practically dragging him behind me. "Babe slow down. Talk to me tell me what happened." He says while trying to stop me. "No, not now just a little bit further, please." he doesn't say anything and just walks with me until we get to the waterfall. I look around us to see if anyone followed us. "I solved the riddle and the words disappeared and new ones appeared. At first, I thought it was just more riddles, but it's not just that." I say while still looking around us. "Babe you are scaring me what does it say and who scared you like this. You look like you've seen a ghost. What did the paper say?" He asks while taking my hands in an attempt to try and calm me down. "We're all in danger," I say and I can't control my emotions anymore as the tears start to roll down my face. He takes me in his arms. "Try to relax babe and then you can tell me what happened," he said with a calm and soft voice kissing me on my forehead. I feel myself relaxing against him as my sobs start to lessen. After a good five minutes, I was ready. "I solved the riddle and I know where the portal is. But that wasn't all the paper revealed. The gods sent me a message about danger in our midst and that they don't want me to tell anybody else about the location of the portal they said I'm only allowed to tell you." Afraid of somebody listening I whispered to him the location of the portal and what the danger is. I see the shocked look on his face. "I can't believe it, how did we not see it," he says while he pulls me closer to him. "I always knew you were special." We walk back to the house and walk into Drake as we enter the house. "Ah, Miane you look much better than before I do hope you're feeling better you gave your grandfather quite the scare this morning. " He says as he moves to the side for us to enter. "Yes thank you Drake it was just a horrible nightmare that scared me," I say as I give him a small smile and pull Jeandre by the hand to go upstairs. "Miane don't forget to try and solve that riddle" I hear him say as we walk away. "I'm going to ask my mother for some of her spellbooks that we can use for protection I say as we get to the third floor. Not wanting to leave my side Jeandre follows me to my mother where I find her in her kitchen making lunch and grandma sitting at the table " Hi" She turns around smiling. "Hi you two sit down and join us for some lunch your grandfather and Drake will be joining us as well. Your father is still in a meeting so he won't join us today." She says while continuing the lunch. "Uh no thanks, mom. We already have plans." I say while squeezing Jeandre's hand. "I just wanted to hear if I could maybe borrow some of your spellbooks to do some research and to practice a little." Since I found out about being a witch my mother and grandmother have been teaching me some easy spells to get me into it. "Of course honey. They are on the top shelf of the bookcase in the library. You're welcome to use them anytime". We gather the books and take them back to our place. I tell Jeandre what types of spells to look for while I start our lunch. after about an hour we found what we were looking for. A spell that is put on our front door. No unwelcomed guests can enter our place and our conversations can't be listened to. On my first attempt, I got the spell correct and our apartment was now protected. A huge relief with everything that is going on.
