✨Chapter 3: Worlds Collide

1044 Words
POV: Aria Bennett Three weeks after Vegas, Aria stood in the bustling heart of London, cold rain dampening her hair as she hurried through crowded sidewalks. Neon signs and glitzy casinos had long faded behind, replaced by polished skyscrapers and classic elegance. The impulsive girl who’d allowed Vegas to sweep her into madness now felt painfully distant. Yet memories of Sebastian—his emerald eyes, his disarming smile—lingered stubbornly, haunting her despite desperate attempts to forget. Aria pulled her coat tighter, stepping into the gleaming lobby of Bennett Designs—her blossoming interior design firm and the dream she'd fought tirelessly to build. Warm air embraced her gently, calming her chaotic thoughts. Her assistant, Lucy, waved enthusiastically, eyes sparkling with excitement as she approached. "Aria, you're just in time," Lucy announced, handing over a thick folder. "The Harrington project came through. We're officially designing Sebastian Harrington’s new luxury hotel." At Sebastian's name, Aria's heartbeat faltered, fingers gripping the folder tighter. Memories flashed dangerously before her eyes—his whispered promises, the note left behind, empty bed sheets. She took a steadying breath, struggling to mask the shock and anxiety surging through her. "Harrington?” Aria managed quietly, hoping her voice betrayed nothing. "As in Sebastian Harrington, the billionaire?" Lucy nodded, oblivious to Aria’s turmoil. "Exactly! The contract is massive, Aria. It could put us permanently on the map." Aria forced a smile, chest constricted tightly. "That's amazing news. Thank you, Lucy." In her office moments later, Aria stared blankly at the project documents. Fate's cruel humor pressed heavily on her. Of all the people in the world, Sebastian Harrington had returned—tangling himself deeper into her life. Her fingers trembled slightly as she flipped open the folder, his photograph clipped neatly inside, emerald eyes seemingly mocking her panic. Her office door opened softly, Tessa's bright smile instantly dissolving into a concerned frown. She quickly took a seat across from Aria, worry evident in her gaze. "Aria, what's wrong?" Tessa asked carefully. Aria hesitated, eyes locked on Sebastian’s photograph. "Remember Vegas? The one-night thing?" Tessa nodded slowly. "Yeah, the mysterious billionaire?" Aria pointed silently at Sebastian’s face, frustration and anxiety coloring her voice. "He's the Harrington in our project." Tessa's eyes widened. "Oh my God, seriously?" Aria groaned softly, dropping her head onto folded arms. "I can’t do this. Not now." "You have to," Tessa argued gently. "This opportunity is huge for you." Aria lifted her head, vulnerable and uncertain. "How do I face him again, Tess? He left without even saying goodbye." Tessa squeezed Aria’s hand reassuringly. "Be professional, Aria. You're talented and strong—don't let him see you're affected." Aria nodded slowly, absorbing Tessa’s strength. "You're right. This is business. Nothing else." Yet even as she said it, Aria doubted her resolve. Sebastian was already woven dangerously beneath her skin, impossible to untangle. A sharp knock interrupted them, Lucy's voice breaking in nervously. "Sorry Aria, there's someone insisting he sees you. Says it's urgent." Aria frowned, glancing uncertainly at Tessa. "Send him in." The man who entered was unfamiliar—dark eyes, scruffy beard, striking yet ruggedly casual. He seemed tense, cautious, carrying himself carefully. Aria studied him curiously, unease growing with every step closer. "Aria Bennett?" he asked quietly. Aria stood carefully, feeling oddly vulnerable beneath his stare. "Yes. Can I help you?" He hesitated briefly before speaking again. "My name’s Ezra. Ezra Cole. I'm your half-brother." The world froze momentarily, Aria struggling to process the words. Her heart pounded erratically, confusion swirling with a sudden sense of disbelief. "My half-brother?" she repeated quietly, voice shaking slightly. "I don't have siblings." Ezra’s expression softened slightly, eyes darkening with something complicated—hurt, hope, fear. "Our father kept me hidden. It's a complicated story." Tessa shifted protectively, voice wary. "How do we know you're telling the truth?" Ezra reached into his jacket pocket, pulling out an old, faded photograph. Aria recognized her father immediately, younger, happier, holding a small boy. Pain twisted sharply within her chest—an unfamiliar ache of betrayal and confusion. This couldn’t be happening. "Why now?" Aria asked softly, emotions swelling dangerously. Ezra hesitated, expression cautious. "Because I'm a journalist. And right now, someone dangerous is targeting you. The Harrington family isn't what you think." At Harrington’s name, Aria stiffened defensively. "What are you saying?" Ezra took a steadying breath, eyes serious and intense. "They have secrets, Aria—dangerous secrets. Your life could be at risk if you continue working closely with Sebastian Harrington." Aria’s heartbeat quickened, anxiety thickening with suspicion. "Why should I believe you?" Ezra stepped closer, vulnerability evident beneath his confident exterior. "Because you’re family. Because I spent years trying to find you. I'm not lying, Aria." She stared at him silently, heart torn painfully between distrust and desperation to understand. Ezra watched her carefully, voice gentle yet urgent. "Please, just trust me. Be cautious with Sebastian Harrington. He's not who he appears to be." The weight of Ezra’s words lingered heavily in the air long after he'd left, leaving Aria shaken and conflicted. She sat down slowly, trembling fingers brushing the faded photograph left behind. Her mind spun chaotically—her carefully controlled world quickly unraveling, revealing layers she wasn't ready to face. Tessa squeezed her shoulder gently, concern evident in her eyes. "Aria, what are you going to do?" Aria took a shaky breath, voice soft but resolute. "I'm going to finish this project. Sebastian Harrington doesn't control my life. Neither does Ezra." Yet even as the words left her lips, anxiety twisted within her chest. Sebastian wasn’t simply a billionaire she'd briefly known—he was a mystery tangled deeply within her heart. Now Ezra had complicated things further, warning her of danger she couldn't fully understand. Secrets surrounded them all, dangerously intertwined, hidden behind smiles and lies. As Aria stared blankly out the window, rain trickling slowly against the glass, she realized Vegas had been the start of something infinitely bigger than she'd ever imagined. Her reckless night was now threatening to spill dangerously into reality, unraveling everything she believed to be true. And the secrets she thought she'd left behind now haunted her, whispering promises of danger, betrayal, and revelations she wasn't sure she could handle.
