In the Joint

Holly's POV I stomped up the steps of the city jail to my inevitable doom. Inside I would clean cells with Kevin the asshole. The pain in the ass that was with me since I started high school. I pushed the door open to see Ben standing at the desk with a grin. Oh good, the jerk that got me here. "Ben," I grumbled. "Holly head on back Kevin is waiting for you in the first holding cell." The giddiness in his voice made me want to wring his neck. "Yeah, Yeah," I mutter as I open the door to catch the backside of the hay god leaning against the side of the wall near the cell. Good lord was even his butt was nice to look at. Those shoulders looked huge from this angle. I walk past him to see Kevin already cleaning. I pick up a rag and cleaner heading into the open cell. A wet rag slams into the back of my head. I grab it to throw it back and launch it at Kevin. The rag stops mid-air. The hay god looks at me silently shaking his finger, then looks back at Kevin "seems you want another night in here." Tossing the rag back at Kevin then leaning against the wall. "You can't make me stay in here," shouted Kevin. "Oh but I can," Chuckled the hay god. I needed to remember what his name was I heard it once but for the life of me, I can't recall it. "You see, as prison rules go, anything that looks like disrespect will be met with one night in here." I see his eyes glance my way as well. "That goes for you too." He winks. "oh!" I turn and start to clean as hard and as fast as I can. I managed to clean without distraction for most of the time. When a question suddenly strikes me. I whip around. "Kevin is all this stupid because I never went out with you?" I ask completely surprised by the thought. There is silence from Kevin, he stops as he tenses and turns slowly eyeing the hay god and then lets his beady green eyes on me. "I have never been turned down until you. Not only that but then you knocked me out. I am the son of someone important. I should be dating someone equally important." He puffed. My eyebrows shot to my hairline. "Seriously!?" I shook my head, "have you ever noticed I have never dated anyone?!" My words were dumbfounded by his stupid. He thought a long moment. "I guess I never have seen you with anyone." He shrugged. "Are you into girls?" He countered. "I am into NO RELATIONSHIP," stressing the word relationship. "After my dad and mom, I wasn't gonna try it. My dad is enough for me to handle let alone some man who probably gonna cheat on me anyway." I scoff throwing the rag down "Not every man is like your dad." Kevin threw back. "Yeah but tell me when have you ever been faithful to any woman you date." I volleyed back. "I have heard from every girl you dated." I laughed rolling my eyes. "Everyone you stepped out on but Tara." I plopped down to grin. "She didn't stay after you roughed her up. I sure as hell wouldn't either." I huffed. "So you're telling me you have never dated or had a relationship with anyone?" Kevin's surprise words fall from his mouth. "Yep," I pop the p and grab my rag. "Let us get this done so I can go home." As I get back to my section of the cell. We say nothing else as we finish the cell. Ben strolls in and says, "wow boy is it quiet." He looks between us. "Marc anything happens?" Ah... his name is Marc. Must remember Marc, not hay god. I think to myself. "I think there was a small breakthrough but," pointing to Kevin, "dumb needs one more night for throwing the rag at her." A sly smile tilted his lips. He was still gonna make Kevin stay. I was a bit surprised. I raised an eyebrow and he just winked at me! I turned back to my cleaning things as a blush races across my face. Why would he want to keep him in here another night? I wondered in surprise. ********* Marc's POV ********* Sweet f*****g hell. She was never in a relationship. Didn't want a man like her father? How bad was her dad? I would have to ask Ben. She was the type you settle down with. I needed to keep her at arm's length. I could easily get wrapped around her finger. For throwing the rag at her, Kevin was gonna spend the next night in the cells too. I think he needed a wake-up call. Cheating and manhandling women were not the way to go around living your life. "Ben a word." I chipped while Holly packed up her stuff and Kevin was led down to his cell. "Sure." Ben eyed me. We walked a distance away. "Can you let some inmates rough him up a bit? He admitted to manhandling and cheating on women. No respect needs to be upgraded I think." Eyeing Ben's reaction to my words I waited. "Then I agree. Know anyone in here that may do the job?" He leaned against the wall. A lopsided grin etched my face, "Oh I am sure I know a few here." Holly walked past. "Tomorrow at 5?" She looked at Ben. "No, take the day off," Ben paused a moment to eye me. "I have a feeling Kevin will need a day or two." A grin formed on his face. "Ook." She looked between the two of us. I watched her face read like an open book. She knew something was up. "Don't worry firecracker, he will be fine." I gave her one of my best dazzling innocent smiles. "My dog gives me the same face after he has dug a hole in my garden." she huffs at me before she walks out of the building. Ben and I burst out laughing. Either way, Kevin is getting a lesson in manners tonight. I was gonna be in hell, while here. That Holly was gonna take me there kicking and screaming. "What is the deal with her dad?" I asked as we just grinned. His face hardened a moment, "her father was a great guy until her mom left. It broke something in him I have never seen. He is confined to the rez now because of his drinking. He hurt a few people so they keep the tribal police close to him." He glanced down at the floor, "her father killed someone with his car. Her mom ran, no one knows where she went and her dad sinks deeper into the bottle every day." He looked up you could see his pity for her. "We know it hurt her that her mom left her. No one knows what to say. Sorry isn't enough." He sighed, the kind you know that shakes your soul a bit. "We figured the Kevin issue would keep her from remembering everything else. Until the rodeo, where it got real." He looked down the hallway. "If anyone needed roughing up it would be her dad." He chuckled. "But, Kevin is a good place to start." Well blow me up and make me s**t sideways, I thought I had a sob story, looks like she is more like me than I care to admit. If I had felt a connection to her before I did now.
