AUSTIN’S POV
“Who are you?” Zoe asked, looking confused.
Those words hit me hard. I looked into Zoe’s confused eyes. She spoke softly but fear was in her voice. She didn’t recognize me. She looked at me oddly.
I was speechless.
“I… I’m Austin” I barely got the words out. “You’ve… you’ve been in an accident Zoe. But you’re safe now okay?”
She just stared.
No flicker of recognition. She didn’t look any softer. Her face was still blank. She was breathing hard as she looked around cautiously then back at me. Like she was looking for answers. Like she was trying to place me.
Still nothing. She blinked and turned from me carefully.
I pushed down my fear and stood up. My heart pounded. I couldn’t catch my breath This couldn’t be happening. Not after everything. Not now.
