Left With No Choice

|Casmira's POV| "I WILL NEVER MARRY YOU!" I snap at Damien, my body shivering with the force of my rage as my fists clench by my sides. I realise that I am standing now as I glare at the man I hate with every inch of my soul. Damien smirks, like he hasn't just barged right back into my life after 10 years. At the worst time possible. "You have to, if you want to pay your debt to us." Mr. Rupert speaks from behind me and I stare at him in disbelief. "Make me do something else. I would die before I marry him." "Ouch." Damien smirks, like none of this is affecting him at all. Meanwhile all I can focus on is how he looks— Raven hair styled to perfection, some strands falling to his face framed by dark eyebrows and deep midnight blue eyes that I know all too well. He has light stubble on his angular jaw, making him look lethally beautiful and his physique... God, he looks like a Greek Adonis. Muscular in all the right places, lean enough to make it appear as though he has been carved into stone to resemble the most stunning man I have ever seen. And he is even more handsome than he used to be in our teenage years when I first fell for him. All my emotions come to the surface making me feel sick to my stomach as I shake my head, turning to Mr. Rupert, "I'll do something else. Anything. Not this. I would not marry him." The man simply tuts in disappointment, "La Familia decides how your debt will be paid, Miss Young. And we have decided." Damien walks in, coming to stand too close to me for me to be able to think straight, "Come on, Casmira, it's just a year." My name from his lips makes my heart clench in my chest while a shiver runs down my spine for some reason. "Why? Why are you doing this? Do you not know that it was him who got me to you guys in the first place? You know everything about everyone. I'm sure you know what happened 10 years ago." I try to reason with Mr. Rupert, hoping that he would have a sliver of humanity and take me out of this cruel joke. He only stares at me emotionlessly, much as the way Damien is looking at me right now, "None of that matters." Mr. Rupert states. "La Familia demands sacrifice for each wish granted. This is yours. Either you pay your debt rightfully, or we salvage it some other way." "How can you be so cruel? You know what happened! You know why I had to kill—" "NONE OF THAT MATTERS NOW, MISS YOUNG." Mr. Rupert snaps at me, interrupting what I was about to say. "Mr. Rupert." Damien says sharply, both of them having a silent conversation that makes my head spin as I try not to hyperventilate. "Miss Young, this is what is expected of you. Here are the terms." Mr. Rupert slides another document in front of me and it's a list...a list of things expected of me during the 1 year I have to stay married to Damien— 1. You will be a faithful wife to Damien Everhart, not engaging in any extra-marital affairs or relationships that might harm Mr. Everhart's image. 2. You will be expected to present yourself in a dignified manner in each event or appearance that Mr. Everhart will attend. 3. You will follow through this marriage with all necessary measures to make people believe that this is a real marriage, including physical intimacy in public, wherever needed. 4. You will not try to find ways to revolt against Mr. Everhart to manipulate him into ending the contract early. 5. Incompletion of this contract will nullify your payment to La Familia and we will have the right to exact the payment for our services in other, more dangerous ways. 6. You will not partake in any action that might besmirch the Everhart name, Mr. Everhart's public image, or the dignity of this contract. 7. You will be fairly compensated by Mr. Everhart with a sum of 10 million dollars when this marriage contract ends. 8. You will stay with Mr. Everhart, in his house, in his room, as his wife, for the entire duration of this contract. Any breach of this will put your life in jeopardy. "What is wrong with you?" I snap at Damien the moment I am done reading the terms. "What am I? f*****g cattle? That you will buy me?" Damien rolls his eyes, "You are exaggerating this beyond measure, it's just a contract." I turn to Mr. Rupert, "You said that me doing this is fulfilling his wish from La Familia. What happens when you come and ask him to pay his debt and that endangers me?" "That will not be the case. Mr. Everhart here will ensure your safety and well being. Your debt will be considered paid the moment you sign the marriage certificate and La Familia will never contact you for anything for as long as you live." I slam my palm on the table, "And what happens if I refuse?" "You die, Casmira. I truly hope that the last 10 years you have spent building your life do not go in vain over a foolish decision." My heart is thundering in my chest, I am unable to breathe— "Don't be nervous, Casmira." He utters out. His voice a balm to my open wounds. A balm I would rather burn. "I am not f*****g nervous." I hiss through gritted teeth. I know I have no option. I asked La Familia to help me and now I have to pay. I can't back out of this now. It would end with my death. And then...everything I have done, everything I have worked to get out of the shitty trailer park that I was raised in...it would all be in vain. "I don't have a choice, do I?" I ask, defeated by what is happening. Mr. Rupert smirks sinisterly, "Not particularly. No." My shoulders droop, my body weakening as I utter out the words that will seal my fate, "When do I have to marry him?" "Tomorrow. Be present at the Town Hall at 10 am tomorrow. We'll get everything in order." And with that, Mr. Rupert is gone.
