His Scorned Lover Interrupted

|Casmira's POV| I can't believe my fate. I get out of the car when it stops in front of the Town Hall and I see him. I can't believe my eyes. Black tux. Silver tie. And a flower stuck to his lapel like it is mocking me. The same outfit he once described to me when he joked about marrying me someday, 10 years ago. When we used to be best friends. Now he is wearing that outfit. And mocking me. "You have some nerve." I hiss as I reach him, my mind spiralling already and I have not even had any food in my system yet. He smirks, aloof and calm as ever, "Come on, Casmira, I thought you would be happy to see me. You are marrying me today, after all." I glare at him, climbing up the steps to get inside as quickly as possible and get this done, "You really have the nerve to come here, wearing this—" I wave my hand at his outfit, "when you know that I absolutely hate you with my entire being." Damien doesn't respond to that, "Come on, Rupert is waiting for us inside." I scoff at the casual way he is referring to the man who is ruining my life. "Best to get this over with." He adds, sending a pang of irritation through me. I stop in my tracks, crowds of people bustling around us for one thing or the other, "You can still back out of this. You don't have to marry me. They will make me pay some other way if you back out." I try to reason with the Devil himself. Damien looks at me with those dark eyes of his, his jaw clenched like he is trying not to say too much. "I need this marriage because this is what my inheritance depends on. My father left a long list of traits needed in a woman for me to marry and you are the only one who fits the bill. I marry you for a year, and I get my inheritance. And you are on your way. Plain and simple." "So that's what this is about? You're ruining my life for some money? You already have enough of it!" I snap at him, my heart thundering in my chest by this point. I don't know if it is because of how close he is standing to me or if it is because of how much I hate him. "I wouldn't call it ruining your life, Casmira, I mean, after all you will have everything you could ever want during this year and you will walk away with a huge payout and your debt paid." He smirks down at me, opening the door behind which Mr. Rupert is waiting with the registrar. "Marrying you is hell. Being near you is torture. I absolutely hate you and if it wasn't this or dying and losing everything I have worked so hard for, I would have killed myself." I tell him, shouldering my way into the room as my clenched fists itch to punch Damien in the jaw. Inheritance. Money. That's what he's marrying me for. This pompous son of a b***h! The audacity he has. "Ah, you both are here! For a second I thought you had decided to run, Miss Young." Mr. Rupert comments and I just glare at him. "It's not like I could. You had goons guarding my f*****g house!" He chuckles, "She's a feisty one you've chosen, Mr. Everhart. I can see that this year will be an interesting one for you both." He tells Damien and I feel the urge to slap both of their grins off. "I can imagine." I roll my eyes, "where the hell do I have to sign?" I ask looking at the registrar, ignoring both the men ruining my life. The old registrar sees my anger and decides not to test me as he just puts forth the documents and without thinking anything, knowing that I have no other option, I just start signing the papers before pushing the pen against Damien's chest. "Get this over with." I tell him coldly. I don't know what exactly I feel, but I just want to lock myself inside a room and never come out. Damien smiles down at me, staring at me for a second too long before he proceeds to sign the papers. However, just as he is about to sign the final one, a voice stops him— "DAMIEN NO! HOW CAN YOU DO THIS? WE'RE IN A RELATIONSHIP!" My eyes widen and I look towards the door of the room and standing there is a blonde woman with a model like physique and a dress that makes her look nothing less than Aphrodite herself. My insecurities about my body rear their ugly heads as I stare at the woman with a sour taste in my mouth while her words register in my head. Damien rolls his eyes, straightening from where he was bent slightly while signing the papers, "What the hell are you doing here, Katrina?" He asks irritatedly. Katrina. Even her name is sexy. I scoff internally and that small sound causes her attention to fall on me. Uh-oh. "What the hell do you think you're doing marrying a man who is already in a committed relationship of two years?" She snarls at me. Oh God, what have I gotten myself into? And before I know it, Katrina is coming barrelling towards me, with nothing but pure anger on her face.
