Their conversation lasted only five minutes. It seems to Carter that the President is the one who speaks most of the time. They go fast, stopping only once seemingly to settle a minor disagreement. Gabriel took his hands out of his pockets and used them to illustrate his point. The President seemed unconvinced at first, but then he nodded and patted Gabriel on the shoulder.
They finished the first round of walking and parted at the diplomatic entrance. As Gabriel headed for the eastern internal road, the dogs quickly followed him, then turned around, dashing into the White House to follow their owner. Gabriel crept through the open door to get into Carter"s car.
