Outside, the clouds scuttled away to reveal the bright, half orb that seemed to pulse with light as though it was a living, breathing being. Steve stared at it while he waited for Rocky’s nose to finish reading the social column. Lilac bushes beside the fence perfumed the spring air. The warm afternoon had faded into a cool evening.
