CHAPTER TEN
Dana called Steve the next morning. “They’re pulling the officers off your house. We need them to assist the ones working on the murders.”
“Don’t you think my family’s still in danger?”
“It doesn’t matter what I think. I don’t make the decisions.”
She was right. No one had asked her opinion. He didn’t doubt she cared about their safety. “Dana?”
“Yes?”
“Would you go out with me?”
He couldn’t believe he’d blurted it out. He immediately regretted the impulse, though he’d wanted to ask her out from the first day they met. He hoped his impulsivity hadn’t ruined his chances for the future.
“I can’t date you while I’m on your case. Of course if we happened to be in the same coffee shop at the same time, I suppose we could sit at the same counter.”
