Chapter 8 – The Drawing Closeness Sheena couldn’t shake off the strange aura surrounding Lucero. It was as if every move he made carried a secret that no words could explain. Yet, despite that, she felt safe whenever she was with him. “Lucero,” Sheena said as they walked home from school, “you’re… different from everyone I’ve ever met. You’re quiet, but it feels like you know so much.” Lucero only smiled, his eyes gazing at her as though diving deep into her soul. “Maybe it’s because I listen more than I speak,” he replied. Sheena looked at him and smiled. “You’re not the type who likes mingling with others, are you?” “I prefer to observe first,” Lucero answered, “rather than judge right away.” They walked in silence for a moment. The evening breeze carried a chill, and it felt as if they could hear each other’s heartbeat. It was then that Sheena felt a strange connection—something beyond simple friendship, something deeper. Suddenly, Lucero stopped and looked around. It was as if he sensed something unseen by others. “Sheena,” he whispered softly, “do you hear what I’m hearing?” Sheena frowned. “What?” “The… flapping of wings in the dark,” Lucero answered. She heard nothing, but she saw Lucero pale, as though a shadow had just passed behind them. He forced a smile and continued walking. “It’s nothing, don’t mind it,” Lucero said. “Maybe I’m just tired.” But inside, he knew that the darkness he had long tried to hide was starting to draw near again. Meanwhile, Sheena found herself falling even deeper into his mystery. She didn’t know what Lucero truly was, but she was certain of one thing—she wanted to know him more. And in the beginning of this new chapter of their bond, a feeling began to grow between them—one they could no longer deny.
