Chapter 1 - Finding my mate

My name is Luna James, I am a werewolf and tomorrow is the day I find my mate. Every werewolf has the chance to find their mate once they turn 18, and tomorrow just happens to be my 18th birthday. I have dreamed about this day for as long as I can remember.

I met my wolf, Rayne, when I turned 13. She is bigger than your average wolf and black as coal with eyes that match my own, blue as ice. My human form is as average as it gets. I’m 5’6” tall, with long wavy black hair, eyes as blue as ice, tan skin and curves in all of the right places. I am the daughter of the Beta, which is the Alphas second in command. I have a twin brother Luke, whom is in line to become our next Beta. He is best friends with our Alphas son, Xavier. Our Next Alpha.

I am in my last year at Crest Haven Academy. Me, Luke and Xavier have known each since birth. And I will admit, I’ve always had a small crush on Xavier, but I won’t tell Luke that. He would kill us both. Besides I’ve been saving myself for my mate, oh how I wish it were Xavier.

I’m awoken by my alarm at 6:15. That gives me 45 minutes to get ready for school. Today is our first day back to school after Christmas break, and it’s also my 18th birthday. I quickly hop out of bed and take a hot shower, allowing the hot water to cascade down my body, relieving me of any stress. I take my time in blow drying my hair and lightly apply my makeup. I don’t want to wear to much. I then quickly get dressed wearing a pair of black distressed skinny jeans, my black converse and a blood red tunic.

I come down stairs and am greeted by my mother, my father, and my twin. Mom has prepared a special breakfast for the two of us consisting of eggs, bacon, hash browns, and our favorite, pancakes. Today’s pancakes are covered in syrup, whipped cream and sprinkles. I mean, it is our 18th birthday. We quickly gobble down our breakfast and give a quick kiss to both of our parents and rush our way to school.

Upon arriving at school, we notice Xavier is resting against the hood of his black Chevy Camaro SS. Gosh I love his car. It’s a mans car and it suits him perfectly. Sadly, Xavier is not my mate. I didn’t smell that delicious scent that I’ve heard so much about. But I did notice a sad look in his eyes when we approached him. Did he too hope that I was his mate.

“Happy Birthday Luna” said Xavier. “What?, am I creamed corn or something? It’s my birthday too bro.” Said Luke. “Ah don’t be jealous Luky” I replied. Making a mock crying face, then breaking into a fit of giggles. “Are you excited to meet your mate today?” Xavier asked both of us. We both replied with a “YES”. “Well I hope you both find your mates and are happy, let’s get to class.” Said Xavier.

Upon entering the building, I quickly notice everyone staring at the 3 of us. Not sure why, it isn’t like we don’t hang out every single day together. Nothing new to see. I quickly make my way to my locker and as I finish grabbing my books, and get ready to close my locker, I smell the most amazing smell. Its lemons and coconut with a hint of fresh cut grass. My Mate.
