The Surprise Mate

Chapter 6: Things Start to Take A Surprising Turn.

Donaldson's P.O.V.:

After I left my mom in the healing hut I walked over to the fire where some members of the pack were working on supper to check and see how much longer until it was done. “Hey Duncan, how is supper coming along is it almost done?” “Yes, sir give it about 2 more minutes sir” he replied, so I turned and started to walk away when he called out to me “Hay so how does it feel to have a mate, or I should say almost mate since the bond hasn’t been solidified yet or have you already bedded her?” he says then starts to laugh with a couple of his buddies. I knew that he and his friends had already been drinking so I knew that he didn’t mean what he said to sound like it did, but my wolf took control and I turned around and punched him in the nose then I walked away heading back to my home, back to her if I was being honest with myself. When I got home, I headed straight for the water basin to wash his blood off my hand, then I walked over to her bedroom door and hesitated wondering if I should just go in but what if she wasn’t dressed or something. So instead, I knocked on the door frame and waited I heard what sounded like she said my name, so I said yes, it’s me as I walked into the room only to find her curled up on her bed sound asleep. I started to turn to leave but then she said it again “Donaldson please don’t leave me I don’t want to be alone anymore”. I turned to look and saw that she was still asleep, and I also realized that she was dreaming about me, I mean I knew that she was interested in me in a s****l way, but this sounded like she actually wants to be with me in a more than just s****l way. Hmmm I know that I shouldn’t be happy by this realization since I keep telling myself that I don’t want or need a mate but still it made me happy, and my wolf was definitely happy about it. No stop she’s only staying here until she is healed then she’ll be gone and out of our lives forever my only job is to help her to heal faster. Besides, she could never accept my wolf side just like my father couldn’t accept my mother’s wolf side if I’m going to be mated to someone she will have to be a shifter to I refuse to take the chance with a fragile human who would never accept all of me she might very well accept the human side enough for us to have s*x but the moment she found out that I could change into the form of a wolf she’d be running away from me as fast as her horse could take her. Better to just not risk it and my wolf and everyone else is just going to have to forget about her ever being anything but a nuisance to me. I decided to sit down against a wall next to the door and just sat there listening to her say my name over and over again after a while of sitting there my mom came and told me that supper was ready, so I got up and walked across the short space that separated us and gently shook her awake.

Sunshine's P.O.V.:

I felt someone shaking my shoulder, so I slowly opened my eye’s thinking it was my mom waking me up, but it wasn’t her. I hoped I had just dreamed everything but no I really was hurt and had really just spent the night in a guy’s hut, I mean sure nothing happened and the room I’m in used to be his sisters but still I was sad to realize that the last two days hadn’t been a dream because that means my parents really were trying to force me to settle down and take over. Oh well life sucks sometimes at least for now until I heal, I can just enjoy being free from the life of royalty of course I could never let anyone know who I really am, but I do need to send a letter to Dorothyanna and let her know that I’m still alive. “Is everything ok?” I ask, “yes everything is fine just letting you know that supper is ready” replied Donaldson “oh ok thank you” I say as I stand up slowly and start walking with them over to the fire.

As I got closer the smell of the meat cooking made my mouth water and as soon as I was given my serving of rabbit stew I dug in as if I were starving, of course I hadn’t eaten since that morning but still I should at least tell them thank you. So, I swallowed my bite then said, “Mmmm this is really good thank you guys for letting me stay until I get back on my feet.” Then I start eating again, once I was full, I sat there and listened to the others talking and laughed along with everyone, they all included me into the conversation when they could, and I started to realize that even though everyone here weren’t related by blood. They definitely were like one big family and some of them were already starting to treat me like I was just another member of the family, except Donaldson of course.

Occasionally someone would start to say or ask me something and he’d shoot them a look or shake his head slightly at them and they would just stop talking. One member of the group sitting around the kept shooting glares at Donaldson, I wasn’t sure why but o well its none of my business anyways. I stood up and was getting ready to head back to the hut when Donaldson Stood up and said, “Hay do u want to go for a walk along the stream bed with me?” “Sure ok” I replied. So, we started walking in the direction of the stream bed I assume since I haven’t seen it yet, we walked for a little while in comfortable silence just enjoying the sounds of nature that was all around us.

It was so peaceful out here then we finally reached the stream bed that was more like a small lake or pond looking out across the water the sight of the moon reflecting on the water was so beautiful it was almost like you could just stretch out your hand and touch the moon. “Come with me there’s something I want to show you something” Donaldson said as he lays a hand on my shoulder. “Ok I say, and we start walking again continuing our path following the stream, into the woods walking through twists and turns that I’m certain without Donaldson leading the way and guiding me with an arm across my back which is distracting enough but even more so when he would lift me up and over branches, roots and any fallen trees that were on the ground which seemed to be the case every ten steps we took farther into the forest he did this in order to keep me from tripping and hurting myself more then I already was. When we reached our destination finally what I saw was amazing there was a smaller version of the clearing that he found me in and right in the very center of it was a pool of water with wildflowers of every kind you could imagine all around it and the clearing as well.

“I found this place one day while I was out hunting the pool of water is called a hot spring its fed by water that is heated by a rocks underground that get heated by lave from a volcano about a mile or so north of us nobody knows about this place just me and well now you. Would you like to take a dip with me, it will help relieve some of the pain of that wrist it might even help it to heal a little faster?” he said, “Umm sure I say but I need some help getting these cloths off could you help me?” I ask “O yea sorry ha-ha” he says then starts unwrapping all the cloths starting with my wrist then moving on to my ankle once done I start taking off my outer clothes. He turns and looks the other way once I was down to just my under clothes I said “ok you can turn around now” “how about you get in and go until the water is up to your neck then I’ll join you” he says still not looking at me or the water. So, I walked slowly into the very warm water until it was up to my neck then called to him that he could join me now and watched as he came walking toward me still in his shorts, but no shirt and damn was the site still as good as it was the first time, I seen him without his shirt on.

“So, are you sure that it was a good idea to share this secret with me? What if I decide to tell others about it?” I say jokingly “yes I’m very certain for two reasons firstly because I couldn’t bear to see you in pain if I could possibly help to relieve some of your pain and didn’t at least try to help you, secondly did you not notice how twistingly and dangerous our path was? There’s no way you’d be able to find this place on your own after only one visit especially not in your current condition. It took me many trials and error filled trips to find this place again after coming across it the first time” he replies with a slight smile at the corner of his mouth. “I like seeing you this way, relaxed and smiling it’s a pleasant change from the man who has been doing nothing but glaring and frowning since I first met him” I reply with a slight push on his shoulder, “ O I haven’t only been glaring and frowning when I look at you and you know it” he says as he reaches up and grabs my hand gently then starts moving it slowly down his shoulder to his chest as he moved closer to me so close that only an inch was between him and me and I could feel his heart beat pounding in tune with my own heartbeat as if we were of one body, one heartbeat. (What I did next, I could only try and explain away later to myself as the heat from the water and the closeness of his body to mine messing with my brain).

One minute I was standing there feeling our hearts beat as one the next I leaned forward kissed him hesitantly at first then when he responded to me and started kissing me back all thoughts of all the reasons I shouldn’t be doing this were suddenly gone and I started kissing him with more passion sliding my arm up over his shoulders and around his neck one had going into his hair closing that small bit of space between us as our kiss depend. We finally had to stop to catch our breath then he picked me up into his arms and carried me out of the water then he lays me down on the grass and brings our mouths back together then he starts kissing down my jaw then my neck all I could think about was how I was fixing to lose my virtue in a clearing in the woods and that was all it took for me to say very breathless and turned on “ Wait please there’s something you need to know before we go any farther” I say. He stops kissing his way down my neck and looks up at me, “What is it?” he asks just as breathless and (judging from the hardness pressed against my waist) just as turned on as I was. Umm this is kind of embarrassing to say at this moment but umm I’ve never been with any one in a s****l way before” I say blushing as I looked away from him afraid of what his face looks like and of his reply.

Donaldson's P.O.V.:

Fuck she’s never been intimate with a man before that explains a lot about her like why she didn’t want to be carried after she left the healing hut and why she blushed every time I would catch her looking at me and why she got so aroused the first day we met, and here I am fixing to take her on the f*****g ground like some horny little teenager. “Hay look at me there’s no reason to be ashamed about being a virgin still, if you want to stop right here we can I won’t force you, come on get dressed and you can think about it while we head back to the camp because if you decide to continue this I refuse to take you on the ground at least not for your first time you deserve better than that.” I say as I put my shirt and shoes on, then when she was dressed, her ankle was braced and wrapped, and her wrist was wrapped and secure once more we started walking back the way we came both lost in our own minds the whole way back to camp. Once we were back at camp we headed straight home rather than mingle with those who were still awake and moving around, by this time my arousal had ebbed away some enough for me to think about what it would mean for me and for her if we continued what we started at the hot spring, firstly it would mean accepting that we were mates and solidifying the as for mentioned mate bond, secondly it would mean that I had to tell her that I was a werewolf and if that didn’t make her run I then would have to tell her about the mate bond and that any kids that might come from our union would be born as werewolf’s to of course they wouldn’t shift until the first full moon after they hit puberty.

(Yea as if being a teenager going through puberty isn’t hard enough, we also get the added very painful first full moon change. Of course, they’ll eventually learn enough control over it that not only will it become easier to shift but also, they’ll gain more control over when they shift. You see the full moon only causes the first change after that it’s linked to our emotions and any high emotion whether it be anger or a spike of adrenaline can cause you to turn which is why being a teenager is so much harder because our emotions are never stable and why if any wolfs have s*x before they have gained enough control of their emotions to control the shift is very dangerous for their partners which is why our young pups once they hit puberty are sent back home where the female pups are always surrounded by their families and are supervised 24/7 by their family, all females are trained to be healers weather or not they decide to later become a scout or warrior it doesn’t matter they still need to be trained in the healing field. Meanwhile the male pups are sent to a training camp as far from any females as possible training to become scouts and warriors, they also tend to be charged with watching after the pups alongside the omega wolfs, while the pack is out hunting or whatever needs being done.

All pups go to homeschooling together until they hit puberty then the females are homeschooled with other females and the males are homeschooled with other males until they gain control of their transforming then they all go back to regular homeschooling together until they graduate. Once they graduate, they can choose in what field they want to start out in, but they only can choose to start out as either a healer or a hunter, as they get older, they can challenge members who are a rank higher than them. Ranks are listed as thus:

4. The Lead Warrior Wolf

5. Warrior Wolf’s

6. Hunter and Healer Wolf’s

7. Omega Wolfs).

Yea so anyways this is all running through my head as we walk into the hut instead of going into either room we sat in two chairs facing eachother but with enough space between us that we wouldn’t be tempted by eachother, then I said so have you came to a decision yet just so you know I’m fine with whatever choice you make like I said I won’t force you”. The whole time we were walking home I was running through all the pro’s and con’s for continuing what we had started at the hot spring and honestly I concluded that it wasn’t like it had to become anything permanent that we could have some fun no strings attached then when the time came for us to part we would, and honestly I was tired of always being the good child I wanted to sow my wild oats while I still can before I’m forced to settle down. So, I say to him “ I definitely would like to continue what we started but I’m not ready to go all the way just yet so if we could just take it slow for now I would appreciate it” “Of course I see no problem with taking things slow, ok then I shall tell you goodnight and I’ll see you in the morning goodnight” he says, then gives me a quick kiss before we each headed to our own beds.
