Chapter 5 # The Intertwining of Secrets and Lies

1276 Words
As the first light of dawn broke, Olivia woke up slowly under the urging of her biological clock. She stretched, got up and walked to the window, and gently opened the curtains. The soft light instantly filled the entire bedroom. She was in a good mood today. After a simple wash, she chose a loose white knitted top paired with a light blue pair of jeans and a pair of white canvas shoes, exuding youth and vitality. Olivia went to the kitchen and prepared to make a simple breakfast for herself. She skillfully fried eggs, toasted bread, and brewed a cup of fragrant coffee at the same time. Just as she was busy, the phone rang. It was a call from Evelyn. "Good morning, dear! Do you have any plans for today?" Evelyn's voice sounded particularly cheerful. "Good morning. I was just making breakfast. I don't have any special plans today. I'm going to read at home and relax." Olivia replied. "That's great. Can I come to see you? I had a strange dream last night. I've been feeling a bit uneasy since I woke up and just wanted to talk to you." Evelyn said, with a hint of coquetry in her tone. "Sure, come over." Olivia said with a smile. Soon, Evelyn arrived at Olivia's home. She was wearing a pink floral dress today, with her hair flowing down her shoulders, looking as beautiful as a flower in spring. "Dear, your breakfast looks so delicious." Evelyn walked into the kitchen and said, looking at the food on the table. "Have some with me." Olivia invited. The two sat at the table, eating breakfast and chatting. Evelyn began to tell about her dream last night: "I dreamed that I got lost in a dark forest and couldn't find the exit. I was very scared and kept calling your name, but you didn't show up. Isn't this dream strange?" Olivia comforted her. "It's just a dream. Don't worry too much. Maybe you've been under too much pressure recently." Evelyn sighed softly. "Maybe. Actually, there's one more thing I want to tell you." "What is it?" Olivia asked. Evelyn hesitated for a moment and then said: "The person I mentioned to you that I like, I found that he seems to have a crush on one of my friends. I feel very bad and don't know what to do." Olivia frowned. "This is a bit tricky. Have you talked to your friend about your feelings?" Evelyn shook her head. "No, I don't dare. I'm afraid that after I tell her, we won't even be friends anymore." Olivia thought for a moment and said: "I think you should still find an opportunity to have an honest talk with her. After all, love can't be forced. If she is really your friend, she should understand you." Evelyn looked at Olivia, with a grateful look in her eyes. "You're right. I'll consider it. Thank you, Olivia. You always give me such good advice." After breakfast, Olivia and Evelyn came to the living room and sat down. Evelyn saw a fashion magazine on the coffee table in the living room and picked it up to flip through. "The cover design of this magazine is so unique." Evelyn praised. "This is the magazine of our magazine office from the last issue. The cover is a work of a new and talented photographer. It's very creative, right?" Olivia said. Evelyn flipped through the magazine and asked: "Have you met some very unique photographers or models at the magazine office?" Olivia nodded. "Sure. Some photographers have extremely high requirements for their works, even a bit harsh, but their works are really excellent. The models also have their own personalities. Some are very outgoing, and some are more introverted." Evelyn seemed very interested in this topic and continued to ask: "Have there been any interesting things?" Olivia thought for a while and said: "Once, we were shooting a set of outdoor fashion photos. The model couldn't stand the pain in her feet after walking in high heels for too long and suddenly sat on the ground and refused to get up. The photographer was so worried that he was running around in circles. Finally, I managed to find a pair of flat shoes for the model to change into and then completed the shooting smoothly." Evelyn couldn't help laughing when she heard this. "It sounds very interesting. Your work is really full of all kinds of surprises." Then, Evelyn put down the magazine and stood up. "Dear, can I visit your bedroom? I want to see how you decorate it and learn from it." Olivia hesitated a bit but still nodded. "Okay." Evelyn walked into the bedroom, and her eyes were immediately attracted by a painting on the wall. It was an oil painting that Olivia bought during her trip to Paris. It depicted the scenery of the Seine River. "This painting is so beautiful. It must be very expensive, right?" Evelyn asked. "Not too bad. I really like this painting, so I bought it." Olivia replied. Evelyn walked to the bedside and saw an album on the bedside table. She pretended to be curious and opened the album. It was full of Olivia's travel photos, work photos, and photos with friends. Evelyn flipped through them one by one, with an envious expression on her face. "You've been to so many places and experienced so many wonderful things. It's really enviable." Olivia smiled. "You can also go and see if you have the opportunity. Traveling can broaden one's horizons and bring a lot of valuable experiences." Evelyn closed the album, and her eyes suddenly became a bit sad. "I want to, but I don't have as many resources and opportunities as you. Sometimes, I feel that my life is very ordinary and boring." Olivia comforted her. "Everyone's life has its own unique charm. You shouldn't always see the good in others and ignore your own happiness." Evelyn lowered her head slightly and was silent for a while. Then, she looked up at Olivia and said: "Dear, you know what? I actually have a secret that I've never told you." Olivia's heart tightened. "What secret?" Evelyn took a deep breath and said: "I lied to you when I said that I was taking art courses. I lost my job for some reasons and now have no source of income. That's why I have a lot of free time. I was afraid that you would look down on me if you knew, so I didn't dare to tell you." Olivia looked at Evelyn, with surprise and sympathy in her eyes. "How could I look down on you? Everyone will encounter difficulties. Why didn't you tell me earlier? Maybe I could have helped you." Evelyn shook her head. "I don't want to trouble you. I want to solve the problem by myself." Olivia held Evelyn's hand. "Don't think like that. We are friends. Friends should help each other. If you need anything, just let me know." Evelyn was so moved that tears came to her eyes. "Thank you, Olivia. You are my only friend. I really cherish our friendship." Olivia patted Evelyn's back gently. "Okay, don't cry. Everything will be okay." However, Olivia didn't notice that Evelyn's so-called "secret" was just part of her plan. By making up lies, she further gained Olivia's sympathy and trust, in order to understand her life more deeply and create more opportunities to carry out her conspiracy. And Olivia was still completely unprepared, believing in Evelyn wholeheartedly and being immersed in this seemingly sincere friendship, not knowing that a bigger crisis was coming.
