Chapter 2

Anna's pov They dragged me to the garden in the backyard like I was not any more than a sack of potatoes, Becky brought the shovel and Ray dug vigorously for what felt like an eternity. Then he said in a hoarse voice, “it's deep enough now, let's bury her before anyone would notice,” With the little energy I had left, I allowed tears roll down my blood stained face as he bent down to pick me. My mind recalled the special night after our bond had been cemented before the members of the pack in a beautiful ceremony, in that bedroom our feelings had expressed themselves through the passionate embrace of our bodies. He had picked me up just like he's doing now, sweeping me off my feet while he pressed a kiss on my cheek and I had said through heated breath; “I love you,” Where did that man go? Or maybe he was never there in the first place. He threw me into the hastingly dug grave like I was nothing but a trash bag, and filled it up with sand until my world was covered with darkness and finally I gave in… Cursing Becky Cursing Ray And even cursing myself for having loved so foolishly, if I was given another chance I would never let myself be deceived again. No…not just that, I would make them pay. “You poor child,” A featherlight voice flowing with elegant grace filled my ears as a kind hand stroked my hair, my head was on someone's lap, in the woods that had been burnt down in my childhood, the full moon glowing more brightly than I ever remembered. When I looked up, the face I saw caused me to be startled. “Grandma?” I said feeling dread run down my spine, one of the only people that had been kind to me in my life. Why was she here? She wasn't dead..no…no “I'm not your grandmother,” the woman wearing my grandmother's face said, and somehow it was easy to believe her. Her aura was so intense and powerful just looking at her felt overwhelming. Her smile broadened. “I only took on your grandmother's appearance to make you feel more at ease,” she paused momentarily looking upon me with pity, “you were so kind in your lifetime but treated so unfairly,” Her words violently brought back those memories like the waves of a tsunami, crashing against my mind. “It's already over, they've won. Ray will make Becky his Luna, she'll have his child and probably many more afterwards, then they'll live happily ever after…” I broke down into tears. “So you're right, it's really so unfair…” Her eyes, unlike my grandmother’s, were golden. They glowed as she spoke again. “What if you had another chance? Another life? Another chance at life?” I stared at her, feeling breathless. “Is that possible…can I be reborn?” She nodded. “Yes, for all the kindness you've done in your lifetime and for the unjust way in which you died, I'll grant you another shot at life. Whatever you choose to do with this life will be your choice…” “Yes!” I said at the top of my voice wiping away the tears with the back of my hand. “Yes…I want to go back,” Her eyes glowed brighter, “If that is what you wish, then return back to the moment that changed it all.” Her eyes glowed brighter than ever, and my eyelids grew heavy when I lifted them. I had this refreshed feeling all over my body and it wasn't just that, but my entire body felt lighter too. “Anna, how can you be zoning off at a time like this?” I jolted back to reality. There was an inconceivable amount of fury and rage that shot through my body when I heard that voice, yet I held a grip on my emotions and maintained a friendly expression as I looked back at Becky. Not the Becky that had eagerly found the shovel that would be used to bury me in my own backyard. A younger Becky, it had only been 5 years so a stranger might not have noticed the difference but for someone like me who had been so close to her from birth, it was glaringly obvious. To add to it, when I looked around casually, spinning a wine bottle in my hand, the decorations told me that this was really the night that changed everything. The night of the mating ceremony. A yearly event where umated wolves would gather from different packs to choose their forever mate. Before this night came in my past life, Ray had gone full force in courting me. He had all but stamped his name on my forehead, chasing away any potential suitors that could have come my way. Thinking about it now made me sick, he had chased me with so much vigor only to toss me away like trash at the end. Well things were going to be different this time, very different. “Becky,” even saying her name made my stomach knot up with disgust. “We already know who my mate is going to be tonight,” Her entire face darkened. “He might be the alpha’s son, but haven't you noticed that he's also such a creep?” I sipped my wine. “The Elder is about to address us…” I said, nudging her attention to one of the oldest elders in the pack who was about to give us a long winded speech about finding your forever before the picking began. Becky had rejected every man that picked her in my last life on this night saying that none of them were her type. Now it all made sense, she had resented me from this moment or maybe even before it. Picking was done by rank, so naturally it was Ray’s turn first. The moment I first caught sight of him, I was doubled over with rage and it was even harder than when I faced Becky. I kept my cool, even managing a smile as he pointed his dirty finger at me and said, “ I choose the gamma's daughter, Anna…” Everyone awaited my response with bated breath, then looking at him I responded without a flicker of hesitation; “... And I the gamma's daughter reject you, the Alpha ‘s son.”
