Chapter 6 - Tame

2059 Words
I kept looking around to find my friends. I still can’t find them. Even Eros and Jade, who said they were just going to talk, are nowhere to be seen. Aside from the many people on the dance floor, the lights in the entire club were so harsh on my eyes, I had a hard time scanning the waves of people to find them. I passed through the dancing crowd. Countless men tried to talk to me, asked me to dance, or even asked for my number, but I was in too much of a hurry to find my friends. I went upstairs while still looking at the people below, holding my cellphone tightly in my hand. “Where are they—” My conversation with myself was cut off when someone suddenly grabbed my hand. I was pulled upstairs. My lips parted in shock, and before I could speak, the cellphone was gone from my hand. “What’s the pass?” a commanding baritone voice asked. I looked up. My frown disappeared, and I was shocked to realize who it was who had casually taken my cellphone even though we were still in the middle of the stairs. His tall physique greeted me face-to-face. He was so close that I could smell his perfume—just the right scent, not overwhelming. The chic magnet, huh? He’s wearing a dark long-sleeved shirt, sleeves rolled up to his elbows, formal trousers, and that high-end wristwatch. His hair was slightly messy… probably because of his chic. “What do you need from me?” I asked bluntly, hiding the nervousness and rumbling in my chest from our sudden confrontation. Our eyes met. I forced myself to look at him bravely and didn’t look away. He’s tall enough to make me fold on my knees. Especially since he never took his eyes off me. A thought suddenly crossed my mind, one that I quickly dismissed. Oh, heck, Nathalia. Since when did you become dirty-minded? “What’s the password?” he repeated the question, as if he was running out of patience. I raised my brow. I took my cellphone back. “Don’t you know it’s inappropriate to just get people’s personal belongings? I can sue you!” “Do not test my patience, Nathalia Amaris. Delete that,” he commanded. I looked at him in astonishment. Oh, so I’m really right that he knows I’m watching him kiss in public! “Delete what?” I asked pretentiously, looking around again. Finally, I spotted Toshi. “Shi!” I called from up here. Before my friend could hear me, this playboy grabbed my hand and pulled me upstairs. “What are you doing?! Where are you taking me?!” I snapped and pulled my hand back. He only let go when we reached the upper floor. There were fewer people there compared to downstairs. It was also darker and more hidden. And I could hear him more clearly, quieter. I looked at him with a frown. He looked at me like he was annoyed by my presence. “Hey, Isles!” One of his friends passed by behind him, confused by my presence, too. I just shrugged. “Sab’s looking for you. You left her downstairs.” He didn’t answer and instead kept his gaze on me until his friend left, who was also with a woman. Isles, huh? “Delete that, or I’ll delete it myself.” I raised my phone in the air and smirked at him. “And the reason? Afraid of people finding out about this, hmm? Who is that girl? Your side chic? Will your girlfriend get mad if she finds out about this?” “That’s none of your business,” he answered, obviously pissed. I sighed and hid my phone even more. “This picture will do us a favor! Why can’t we just agree, Isles, or whatever your name is! Just... sacrifice a bit about yourself! I can send it to Dad and tell him you like someone else. That’s why the marriage he’s talking about is impossible.” “I didn’t come here to talk about that. Delete what you took, and we’ll be done,” Isles said coldly. I shook my head. “I will not delete that! You don’t understand my point—” “Will you stop being a brat? I’ll handle your father. Now, delete that,” he ordered. I didn’t move to delete the photo from my phone. Why is this such a big deal to him? “Delete the photos, Nathalia. What will make you keep quiet? Do you want us to do what we did again?” he asked sarcastically. I felt even more angry at him. I tried to walk away, but he grabbed me and pulled me back to where I was leaning against the railings. My anger boiled over. He stepped closer, placing his hands on both sides of the railing behind me, trapping me between his arms. He leaned down, leveling our gaze. “Give me your phone. I’ll erase it.” My teeth gritted. Before I could put the cellphone away and hide it behind my back, his hand moved to take it. He smiled a bit when he got the phone. He didn't move away from me. He remained leaning against the railings while I was in front of him. “Pass?” he gently asked. “My birthday,” I replied, annoyed. I tried to trick him. He doesn't know my birthday for sure? I smirked to myself. He tapped on my phone. I just looked at him and waited to see if he would open it or not, which I was confident that he wouldn't! “Hmm, you look good here...” he suddenly said, causing me to look at what he was looking at. He's now browsing in my gallery, which is considered a privacy invasion! My eyes widened, and I quickly snatched my phone back. I grabbed it and held it tightly. “You’re invading my privacy!” I exclaimed. Isles smirked and laughed softly. “Now, you’re talking about privacy?” “Is that privacy? You are kissing someone in public!” How dare he twist my words! He didn’t answer that, and instead took something out of his pocket. My gaze followed his hand, fumbling for his cellphone. “What are you doing now?” I asked annoyed. He took the cellphone and with just one tap, the camera opened. He stepped closer so that I leaned more against the railings. My eyes widened when he looked me in the eyes. His cold stare pierced deeply into me. He shifted his eyes between mine and my lips. It took a few seconds before he completely pressed a kiss to my lips when I didn’t move to push him away. I froze in my position. I couldn’t even move or think, especially when his lips touched mine. He kissed me deeply. It wasn’t just a soft touch but a real kiss, his lips moving against mine. He pulled me closer with one hand and pressed the kiss harder. I felt his hot tongue licking my lips, making me more speechless and unable to move. I heard a click from his phone camera. Five seconds... five seconds and Isles pulled himself from me slowly. He looked into my eyes. I could only look at him, completely stunned by his stolen kiss. His hand on my waist slowly slid away from its grip. It fell and he clenched his fists. He put his cellphone in his pocket, looking at me seriously, before speaking coldly. “The next time we meet, we’ll talk about privacy. I will let you know what privacy truly means.” That clubbing ended worse than I imagined. Now, we’re even. I have a picture of him kissing a woman, and he has a picture of the two of us kissing! Even though he really did it! “I will show you who you’re messing with. Playboy...” I said loudly as I reluctantly arranged myself in front of my vanity table. Dad only reminded me once about a dinner at eight o’clock at night. He told me not to do stupid things, and if I didn’t show up, he would cut off my credit cards. I held my cellphone tightly where the picture of Isles and his chic was stored. Will Dad be convinced if I tell him Isles likes someone else? I can tell him that Isles is getting married and has a fiancée. Or I can just tell him that Isles is a playboy, a f*ckboy, a womanizer, or whatever to ruin his image! I can do that, right? Maybe Dad doesn’t want me to end up with that kind of person? I’ve found out who Isles is. He’s a law student in a prestigious law school here in Manila. I found out he’s the same age as Kuya Cielo. He’s in his third year of law school. We don’t have any common friends. Maybe that’s why he didn’t know me either and thought I was the girl named Sabrina, who I think he recognized, none other than the girl he was with at the nightclub. He finished his undergrad abroad, and now he’s taking law here. I was a few minutes early. It’s a good thing dinner was reserved, so I just had to wait for them. I was grateful that Dad arrived first before his important guests. Mommy was with him. I smiled when I saw them. My parents really look good together. Although I heard some things about their love story, I only know a bit of it. I don’t know the whole story because no one else told me. “You’ve finally learned your lesson to show up to important matters,” Dad began when he saw me. I responded with a forced smile and greeted Mom with a kiss on the cheek. She asked how my day was. Mommy Thaliana is kind, but I can’t deny that it is obvious she’s overly submissive towards her husband, my father. When we sat down at that table, I took the opportunity to talk to Dad. “Dad, I have something to tell you... about, uhm, I-Isles...” I began. I just held my breath. This is my last resort to stop this. If it doesn’t work, then I don’t know anymore. “What is it again this time?” he asked in a calm but strict tone. I took a deep breath before speaking. “I saw him kissing another girl who I’m pretty sure is his girlfriend, or fiancée probably?” Dad looked up. “And what about it?” “Well, that means... you can’t marry us off, Dad. He is also a playboy... a womanizer. That guy is a womanizer. He might have a girlfriend, too.” Dad shook his head at my remarks, disappointed and not liking it. “It is decided, Nathalia Amaris. You’ll marry next year after he’s graduated in his fourth year. And you’re engaged now... well, later.” “What?” Dad’s eyes remained cold. “I didn’t decide that. You two are responsible for that. You’ll marry or I’ll be forced to get that man behind bars?” I almost froze when I heard it. “If you don’t marry that Privello, then all you need to do is to wait for the news until he’s jailed. Even if it’s a year later, the marriage will remain. If you do anything stupid, it’ll be tomorrow.” “Dad! You’ve got to be kidding me!” I gasped in disbelief. “He took advantage of you. You were drunk. He could be jailed for it.” I tried to explain it to him, but he never listened to me. He knew exactly how to twist the situation to his advantage. With money and connections, he could easily manipulate everything. “This is also the right time for you to find someone who can tame your rebellious nature. You need to mature and start being useful. I am tired of you being a rebel, Nathalia Amaris. You need someone to put you in your place. And I believe Privello can do that,” he added meaningfully, and didn’t turn to me again.
