Chapter 6 I'm Your Wife!

693 Words
Losing count of how many cups she'd made, Amelia felt dizzy from exhaustion, hardly able to keep going. When she finally returned to the meeting room with another coffee, Clay was nowhere to be seen. What was he playing at? Had he left her behind just like that?! Downstairs, Amelia watched as Clay's car pulled away from the Kingsley Group. A bitter smile crossed her lips; she should have expected his indifference when marrying him by contract... Just when she headed to the roadside to hail a cab, a white car pulled up in front of her. "Jenny, let me give you a lift." The car window rolled down, revealing Mars' gentle and handsome face. "Get in. You must be exhausted, bustling around for hours." Mars unfastened his seatbelt and got out to open the door for her, making it hard to refuse his kindness. Amelia climbed into his car. "Thank you." "You're very welcome." Mars gave her a soft smile and then reminded her, "Buckle up." Back at the Kingsley Manor, as Amelia headed to her room, she reflected on Mars' gentlemanly behavior. How could two brothers like Clay and Mars be so different? Entering the bedroom, Amelia stopped in her tracks. Her suitcase had been tossed onto the floor! She was stunned and then glared at the man inside the room. "Who gave you the right to take over my entire room?" Clay's attitude was exceedingly arrogant. "What do you mean? It's just one suitcase; it hardly takes up any space!" Amelia retorted. Clay stroked his jaw with a playful expression. "I don't want to see anything unnecessary in my room, including you." Amelia looked straight into Clay's eyes. "Mr. Kingsley, may I remind you that I am now your wife?! I have every right to use this room!" Clay scoffed coldly, "I might also remind you that my intended wife was supposed to be your sister, not you!" Amelia's heart skipped painfully; she realized Clay had completely cornered her. But if she allowed herself to be driven out of their bedroom, it would only escalate to her expulsion from the Kingsley Manor. She couldn't give in! Biting her lip, Amelia marched over to the bed and sat down defiantly. "Since I married you, I am your wife! And I'm not going anywhere!" Amelia pouted angrily, her cheeks flushing a tempting shade of pink as her curly hair bounced with her movements. Something stirred in Clay at the sight. He grabbed Amelia's wrist and pulled her into his embrace. "What are you doing, Clay?" Amelia panicked, her breath hitching as Clay's face came inches from hers. "Don't move," Clay murmured as he came closer. His sea-blue eyes fixed on her, a faint smile playing on his lips. Amelia swallowed hard, her heart racing. Clay kept his gaze locked on her, while Amelia shut her eyes out of shyness. But when she opened them again, she found Clay had wheeled them both to the door. "This is as far as I go, Ms. Shameless," he said. Then, Clay suddenly closed the door, leaving her outside. "What the hell, Clay?! You can't do this to me!" Amelia pounded on the door, stomping her feet in frustration. The next day, when Marn came to pick Clay up, he was taken aback by the scene at the door. He tiptoed into the room, informing Clay cautiously, "Sir, Ms. Hugh..." The mention of her name made Clay's brows furrow, his aura chilling. "I didn't mean to bring her up, but she..." Marn trailed off and then blurted out, "Sir, perhaps you should see for yourself." "Show me." Even though Clay had always been composed, he was still surprised to find Amelia sleeping at his doorstep. Amelia had placed her suitcase aside and curled up against the wall, covered by a coat. She seemed to have collapsed on the floor in her dreams. The coldness made her shiver, so she tried to seek warmth inside the coat, revealing only her stubborn face. Some of her messy hair stuck to her forehead, adding to her innocent and pitiful appearance. Watching her shiver, Clay somehow felt sorry for her.
