~ARIA~ I tried to pretend I didn’t hear him, and hurried toward the exit. But as I reached for the handle, a hand suddenly suddenly grabbed my arm. My heart stopped. I looked up slowly, only to see the beta hovering over me. “I said, the Alpha requires your service.” He said through gritted teeth, dragging through each word. My hand trembled slightly. I followed him back to where the Alpha sat. "My Alpha." I bowed slightly. He didn't answer. He simply pushed an empty goblet toward me. I poured carefully, afraid even the slightest spill would earn me another punishment. He picked it up without looking at me and emptied it in one long swallow. The Alpha kept drinking, and I kept pouring.Yet the Alpha remained strangely quiet. His silence unsettled me far more than the noise surrounding us. His fingers brushed mine as he reached for it. I flinched instinctively. His hand paused. For the first time since I had approached him, he looked directly at me. There was something unreadable in his gaze. Something that made the hairs on the back of my neck stand up. I quickly lowered my eyes again. "My Alpha," the beta said carefully, leaning closer. "Perhaps you've had enough for tonight." A few minutes later, he pushed his chair back. The movement was slow. When he stood, his balance faltered. The Beta stepped forward immediately. "I'll escort you to your chambers, Alpha." Alpha Aramic waved him off. "No." His voice was quieter than before. He turned his head toward me. "Let the girl help me." For a heartbeat, no one moved. Even the Beta looked caught off guard. "My Alpha..." "I said..." Aramic repeated, his tone leaving no room for argument, "...let her help me." The hall fell strangely quiet around us. Dozens of eyes settled on me. My stomach tightened. Then, with obvious reluctance, the beta stepped aside. "As you command." I swallowed hard. If escorting the Alpha meant leaving this hall… leaving those warriors… Then perhaps this was my chance. I set the wine bottle down and moved to his side. "My Alpha." He rested one arm across my shoulders. His weight nearly pulled me off balance. He was far heavier than he looked. Together, we started toward the doors. No one stopped us. The moment we crossed the threshold, the roar of the banquet faded behind us. Cool night air drifted through the stone corridor. For the first time that evening, I drew a full breath. We were away from them. I closed my eyes for the briefest second. Maybe... Maybe tonight wasn't completely hopeless after all. The Alpha leaned heavily against me, forcing me to adjust my grip every few steps. Behind us, the Beta followed at a respectful distance. When we reached the alpha’s chamber, he stepped ahead and pushed it open. Together, we guided the Alpha inside. His chamber design was extravagant, clearly showing his status in the pack. "Help him lie down," the Beta instructed. "I'll have someone bring water." Before I could respond, he stepped back into the corridor. The door closing behind him. I didn't think much of it. All I wanted was to finish my duty and leave. Carefully, I guided the Alpha toward the bed. I helped him sit. Then eased him back against the pillows. "There..." I let out a slow breath. "You should rest now, my Alpha." He gave no reply. His eyes remained closed. For a brief moment, I simply stood there, watching to make sure he wouldn't fall. Then I turned toward the door. But a hand clamped around my wrist before I could leave. I gasped. The sudden force yanked me backward. My feet slipped. The room spun. The next thing I knew, I landed hard against the mattress. The breath rushed from my lungs. Before I could scramble away, another weight settled beside me. My eyes flew open. The Alpha. His grip tightened around my wrist, his eyes meeting mine. His eyes were clear and focused, not drunk at all. A slow smile curved across his lips. "Not so fast..." he murmured. His voice was steady. Far too steady for a man who had stumbled all the way here. "...little omega." Cold dread settled deep in my chest. And somehow, that terrified me more than if he had shouted. "My Alpha..." I forced the words past the knot in my throat. "I should return to the hall." "You've done well tonight." His voice was smooth, almost lazy. "I'd like to reward you." "I don't need a reward." I said quickly, voice shaking with fear. “I only wish to leave." I tugged at my wrist. However, his fingers tightened. "Don’t be frightened, little Omega. I mean well. I have always had my eyes on you." My mouth had gone dry. "What?" He chuckled softly. "All I'm asking you is to stay." Every instinct inside me screamed at me to run. I tried to pull away again. But he simply pinned me down with his weight. I began struggling. "You don't have to be afraid." His smile widened. "I chose you because you're beautiful." My stomach lurched. "Don’t… don’t do this." "You'll change your mind." he said, tugging at my shirt. My blood ran cold. "No." The word came out louder as I tried to push him away. His expression hardened. For the first time, the smile disappeared. "I wasn't asking." "No!" I shoved against his chest with everything I had. He barely moved. My breathing became ragged. "Please..." I whispered. "Please don't do this." His hand reached for my face. I slapped it away. His patience vanished. In one swift movement, he caught both my wrists. Pain shot through my arms as he pinned them above my head. I kicked wildly. My heel caught his shin. He cursed under his breath. For a heartbeat, his grip loosened. Just enough. I wrenched one hand free. My fingers searched blindly for anything— Anything— The vase. Cold porcelain met my fingertips. Without thinking, I grabbed it. "Stop!" He lunged again. My mind went completely blank. I swung. The vase shattered against the side of his head. The c***k echoed through the room. For one frozen second, neither of us moved. His eyes widened. Blood trickled slowly from his temple, tracing a thin line down his cheek. The broken remains of the vase slipped from my trembling fingers and crashed onto the floor. He staggered back a step, one hand rising to the wound. He stared at the blood staining his fingers. Then he looked at me. The fury in his eyes stole the air from my lungs. I scrambled out of the bed. But my leg got caught in a bed cloth. I stumbled forward, but managed to kick the cloth away, before rushing toward the door. A violent pounding suddenly shook the door. "My Alpha?" The Beta's voice. "Is everything alright?" Before either of us could answer, the door burst open. Luna Jenny swept into the room, two guards close behind her. Her gaze landed on the shattered porcelain. Then the blood running down her husband's face. Finally... On me, standing there. Breathing hard. My cloth disheveled. My hands shaking. The room fell silent. I opened my mouth. "I can explain—" The slap came so fast I never saw it. My head snapped sideways. "How dare you!" Luna Jenny screamed. "You tried to kill the Alpha!"
