Chapter 9 : Kris

1018 Words
Sloane I knew I was making a stupid decision when I decided to leave the Moonlight Pack estate and go back to my pack. I know, call me crazy. In fact, call me a fool. I don't care. I had to tell Kris about this because I couldn't have my dignity thrown away like that. I couldn't just sleep on it and agree, no. I sneaked out of the Moonlight Pack and took a quick cab back to the Crimson Pack. By the time I got there, the gates were locked and the security guards weren't around. Perfect. I slipped in over the walls; it was easy. Slowly, I tiptoed into the estate where my brother stayed and into his office. I waited for three hours until he came back. I turned on the lights, frightening him when he spotted me. “Hi, Kris,” I said softly. He turned toward the open door. “If you don't leave, I'll call the guards.” “No, please. Just listen to me. Please.” He walked to his desk and slapped the files he held onto it, then turned to face me. That snicker was in his eyes, filled with the same disgust I’d seen when he threw me out. “You haven't been answering my calls,” I said, as if it weren't obvious enough. “In fact, I think you blocked me.” He turned around and took a seat, leaning back as he watched me approach. “Is that really why you're here, Sloane? To remind me that I blocked you?” I closed my eyes, tightening my knuckles as I took deep breaths. I promised myself I wouldn't cry, so I didn't. I would ask him about the evidence and insist I wasn't at fault. I pulled out my phone and unlocked it. The picture on Dean's phone filled my screen. Luckily, he had sent those pictures to me. I flashed the screen in Kris’s face, showing him the photo. He only stared. There was no movement at all. Not even a blink. That had to mean he knew about the photos and the evidence. “You know about this,” I said after a few minutes, pulling my phone back. “Yes, and?” he asked recklessly, eyes rolling. “If you knew about it, why didn't you show me? This isn't me!” He paused, and after a few minutes burst out laughing. His hands went to his chest as he finished with a chuckle. “I'm sorry, you expected me to bring this to you and show you? And for what reason, Sloane? To prove what to you? That you weren't the one? Evidence is evidence.” I looked at him like he had two heads. This… didn't make sense. He is my brother, so he should have brought the evidence to me first before assuming otherwise. Unless… Unless he was the one who planted them. Unless he framed me! I looked at the fake AI photos and then back at Kris, who didn't seem to care at all. His face was full of it. Why hadn't I noticed before? Why didn't I see that he was the one who planned this? Realization hit me hard; my heart ached as if it were being struck over and over. “You did this,” I said. He sat calmly, saying nothing else. That was already the answer I needed. “You did this, didn't you?” I asked again. Maybe, just maybe, I was dreaming and this wasn't happening. “I did. Are you satisfied now?” He threw the question at me and it felt like the ground shook beneath my feet. My hands fidgeted; goosebumps spread over my skin like a second layer. I tried to breathe, to keep control, but nothing worked. How could my own brother hurt me this much? How could he make this app just to exile me from a pack I worked my ass off for? He stood up slowly and steadily, hands in his pockets. “Now that you know who did this, are you satisfied? Or has the cat got your tongue?” Tears stung at the corners of my eyes, threatening to fall as I stared at him. He sounded certain and satisfied, as if his work here was done. “Why?” I asked. One single question that I expected an answer to. But he said nothing, just sized me up with the same disgust in his eyes. His face tightened, his gaze avoiding mine as he called the pack’s security. They flooded in while I stood there, hands grabbed me from both sides. Bile rose in my throat as I struggled to breathe and form words. Slowly, hot tears ran down my cheeks. But they just pulled me outside. I watched my own brother let them drag me away, a sinister smile on his lips as they shut the doors in my face. They dragged me back out through the gates and threw me out on the hard floor. People looked and probably murmured, but I didn't care. It felt like my whole world had shattered, and the truth was, it had. I wiped my eyes after what felt like hours and looked up to see the triplets standing right in front of me, their keeps behind them in a hot and fashionable way. I walked forward, not minding them as I passed. “I know what you're going to say. I shouldn't have come back here, but I had no other choice,” I said as I walked on. “Yes, you shouldn't have,” Dean said, his voice high and ragged, I could tell he was angry. “What the f**k were you thinking, Sloane?” “What was I thinking?” I turned to face them now. “I was framed and tossed out like a piece of trash by my own family! I needed to have an answer for myself. I needed to know but you knew about this, didn't you? All three of you knew!”
