“I,” was all he could say as he lay in the darkest part of the cell. I sat there trying not to cry.
“You failed.” I spoke gently.
“I know Avery I failed. I failed protecting you. I failed becoming a royal guard right. I failed at life.” He cried.
“No.” I spoke before I began to cough. I managed to catch my breath allowing for a few heavy breaths to fill my lungs. “You promised to be at my side.”
“What?” He whispered gently moving.
“You promised to stay by my side and protect me.” Oh was this entire conversation going to be hard. I began to cough again. I could hear Rebecca coming around the corner but she stopped at I felt Andrew’s hand on my shoulder. He was holding up his water cup to me. I took gentle sips. “There are things you cant protect me from Andrew. That is something your going to have to live with.”
“Shannon’s words.” Andrew said dropping his head. He went to step away from me but I grabbed his hand. I pulled him to me and gave him a good smack.
“Owe.” I cried rubbing my hand. He stood still as he looked at me in disbelief. I was more concerned on how much my hand hurt. He gently grabbed it and rubbed it carefully actually relieving the pain.
“I deserve that.” He spoke. As he kneeled by me. He wouldn’t let my hand go. “I thought I lost you. You stopped breathing Avery. You stopped breathing my my arms for a few seconds.”
“Did you ever come back to check on her though.” Rebecca said coming up behind me. I didn’t think she should be here but I knew I couldn’t finish this argument.
“No.” He sighed heavily. “I couldn’t bear to bring more heart break to everyone.”
“None of this is your fault.” Rebecca spoke as she kneeled down beside her brother. “We are all worried about you Andrew. Tarick is having tempertamtrum at home and Jason is at his limit. You need to stop this stupidity of yours and fix it.”
“Words will be said.” I gently spoke. They where slow but I didn’t cough. That was good.
“Its what’s after they have been said that matters.” Rebecca said gently. “When any on of us where missing she would call us. You where no different. None of us could leave unless it was for a few moments.”
“I heard her scream but I didn't come.” Ihe spoke. Rebecca smaked him hard as well.
“You have denied your duty.” She whispered getting up and grabbing my chair. I couldn’t do anything as she took me out of there. She stopped me once we where clear of the cell. “Don’t lock it. Leave the food at the door. If he leaves let me know but don’t worry about following. A guard who can complete there duty even after so much complication isn’t a guard.”
“Rebe…” I began to cough again causing her to wheel us away quickly. Tanisha And Rachelle on either side of us.
“Thomas.” Rebecca cried. We where instantly whisked to my room where Tanisha ran for some water. She helped me drink it as Rachelle disappeared. Once I was able to breath they got me back in bed. Soup was fed to me before I fell back to sleep.
“Hey,” Alex spoke as I rolled over gently bumping into him. I chuckled as I stretched causing him to fall off the bed. “Come on Av you got the whole bed. Cant you just give me a corner.”
“No.” I grumbled holding back a laugh. He was trying to get back on the bed again all tired. He froze for a bit.
“Oh I see how it is.” He chuckled before pouncing on me and tickling me. I laughed so hard till Tanisha and Rachelle ran in and saved me.
“Owe owe owe.” I laughed out holding my side.
“We leave you alone for 2 minutes with her and you have broken all rules.” Jessica said as Tanisha and Rachelle held him at the foot of my bed.
“She started it.” Alex tried to say as he tried to wiggle out.
“Nope, no wiggling out of this.” Jessica said as her and Rebecca advanced towards him.
“Mark, Mark.” Alex Cried. In came mark taking out Jessica and hooking Tanisha. Jason was right behind him and grabbed Rebecca and Rachelle. They held them both off the ground as Alex sauntered to me all proud. “No you got me in trouble. Your in trouble now.”
“No Alex.” I cried trying to keep as much bed between me and him as possible.
“Your prince to the rescue.” Tarick said jumping on my bed and being between me and Alex.
“Oh this isn’t fare.” Alex chuckled.
“Come on princes. We got two worriers each. You got a child.” Mark said struggling against his sister and Tanisha. Jason was grunting in the corner with Rebecca looks like another guard was holding Rachelle.. Pat get in here and grab Tanisha will you.”
“Yes sir.” The new guard said running in and grabbing her.
“Put me down pat.” Tanisha cried kicking her legs. I don’t know how Pat did it but she did.
“Got you.” Alex said jumping at me. Tarick jumped at him causing them to collide on the bed. I was laughing so hard as I scurried to the end of the bed. Everyone was busy tickling someone I knew I was on my own.
“Run Avery, I got him.” Tarick said sitting on Alex. Alex rose from the bed causing Tarrick to hug his back.
“You where saying.” Alex said as he reached for me.
“Run Avery.” Jessica said between laughs. Avery got up and ran for the door. Tarick placed his hands around Alex eyes causing him to stop.
“Hehe I got him Avery.” Tarick cried happily. I raced out the room and down the hall to the gazeboo. Once there I began to look for a hiding place. Someone wrapped there arms around me and pulled be back.
“Your little savior cant help you now.” Alex said running down the hall. He looked around the garden before running back out.
“He I see Tarick did exactly as I said.” Andrew’s voice spoke in my ear. I elbowed him and walked away. Andrew didn’t come after me and I was happy. I stepped back in and jumped on Jason alowing Rebecca free. She helped me causing Jason to surrender be for we helped Jessica and Tanish. Soon my girls where in a circle around me as the boys surrendered. We all where laughing and enjoying it as we watched them walk out. They lead me to the bed and got me comfy as we all tried to catch our breath. Tanisha was on watch of the door. The only boy in the room was Tarick.
“I did a good job right.” Tarick said after a bit.
“I got away thanks to you.” I told him with a smile as he came and sat beside me.
“I have not had that much fun in years. This should be a thing we do once a week.” Rebecca said still trying to hold back her laughter.
“It was fun for you but I had Pat’s weapon on my spine the whole time. He would tickle me and it would dig in.” Tanisha pouted. We all gently laughed even she did after a little.
“Come girls I think Tarick got her covered. Let’s go get lunch quickly.” Jessica said as she got up and walked out. Rebecca looked at me before placing her hand on my cheek.
“You alright.” She asked.
“Yeah no worry. Just go.” I told her with a smile. As soon as she left I had a frown on my face and Tarick didn’t like it.
“Your not alright are you?” He said a little upset as he hugged me tighter.
“Don’t worry I’ll be okay.” I told him. “I think I may have hurt Andrew though.”
“Oh don’t worry about me brother. A roof collapsed on him and he survived. I don’t think there is anything you can do that will hurt him.” Tarick said very confidently.
“I don’t think I wounded him physically but emotionally.” I told them with a sigh. Tarick looked at me a little confused.
“Don’t worry, my brother will forgive you.” He smiled. “he does nothing but talk how great you are.”
“I don’t know what to do with him.” I said as tears ran down my eyes. I felt safe with him like I did my own brother. The four of us where perfect crime fighting clown crew. For him to just give up like he did.
“Hey no crying.” Tarick said engoulphing me in a hug. I hugged him back as an alarm went off. Panic hit Tarick as he broke the hug and ran for the balcony. He shut it an f locked it before we raced for my closet. The walk in opened up a little as he opened an escape door. I followed him in. He pointed to a corner and I sat. He closed the door and sat near me.
“What is going on.” I whispered ever so gently. He put a finger to his lips as I heard glass break. He wrapped around me as I began to worry. I knew my guards where strong but what if they found us before they got back.
We sat there together in silence as the alarm gently blared outside. I knew this was not something we needed right now but I was starting to get a bad cramp. I slowly moved my legs out trying to stop it from coming but that didn’t help. The floor board squeaked.
“She is in here.” A man’s voice spoke. It was muffled. I froze instantly even though I was in pain. I wanted to sit curled up again but neither could I pull my leg back in nor could I make it straight. Carefully not making any noise I moved my hand over the muscles trying to work them out.
Russeling of hangers caught our attention as I was finally able to make yourself small in the corner once more. Tarick was gently crying beside me. I could see the fear in his eyes they found us. I had to do something. If they did find us we where both doomed. I didn’t even have a weapon.
The began to bang on the walls causing a gap to escape him. I quickly covered his face but knew it was to late. I quickly grabbed at the roof finding hidden button. The floor opened up sending us spiraling down a dusty slide. You could tell no one had been down here in a long ttime.
We hit the bottom with a plop causing dust to flap around us. We both began to cough badly as we tried to wave the dust away with our hands.
“Your not hurt are you?”
“No I’m okay. You okay?”
“Just scared but okay.” He spoke gently. I knew he was embarrassed to say he was scared. He was here with the princess and the only person here with the princess. With his siblings being royal guard members the weight on his shoulder must be heavy. I grabbed his hand causing him to look at me.
“You are with the princess. And like the princesses guard we follow one rule.” I spoke to him as calmly as I could.
“We work together.” He smiled.
“Exactly because I would be living if I wasn’t scared right now to.” I told him with a half giggle. He nodded as he gripped my hand hard. We began to walk around the room looking for a way out.
It was bared with spider webs causing us both to cringe. The only benefit was there was some old wood down here they we could clear it up with. We still both shivered as we stepped down the way.
“Listen, don’t tell no one about this. I don’t want to go away.” Tarick spoke after we where met with total darkness. He took his other had that wasn’t holding mine and lifted it up. Palm parmelee to the ceiling. A gentle flame soon flickered in it lighting the hallway. “Tarick is the only one that knows. I know Rebecca has the ability to move wind but she never uses it. I don’t really know what Andrew can do. I’ve seen him multiple times but it’s hard to say. He has trained with it in secrecy.”
“I won’t tell if you don’t tell.” I told him with a smile. He nodded happily as we looked up and down the hallway. Something was telling me to go left. I motioned him that way and he nodded. Guess he really didn’t have clue either. There was something about this place. I had to have been here.
It took quite a while to get to the end off the hall that lead out into an open field. A rusted bar blocked the tunnel except where a small opening was masicurly cut.
“Looks like some new mage trying to get out.” Tarick spoke with a chuckle. I nodded with him. At the bottom was something stuck. My fingers found it and pulled it away. It was the same color and everything of the dress I had on when I was younger.
It hit me right then. This was familiar because I came this way to escape the castle. The night it was attacked the when I was a baby is the same as it is now. I stumbled back a little and fell on my rump. Tarick was a bit confused as he looked at me. With being close to the entrance he had dropped the little flame. I feared we would have to run again. To leave all this behind once more. I don’t think I would make it.
“Hey easy, your starting to shiver.” Tarick spoke a little worried. I knew I was I also wasn’t feeling very good all of a sudden. “The virus must not have been all gone.”
“What?” I asked not really sure when he was talking about. My mouth went dry as I began to feel wet. I was scared and I knew I was scaring Tarick.
“Tarick.” A voice came. I didn’t look over I just place my face in my hands. Tarick didn’t leave but he looked over.
“She needs help.” That’s all he could say. And he barely said that. I soon heard the mettle grate pop of as someone jumped into the tunnel. His arms wrapped around me lifting me.
“Grab the hem of my shirt and stay close.” The voice spoke as he stepped out into the sun. Oh was that not the best feeling. The warmth of the sun hitting my acke body.
“Is she going to be okay?” Tarick asked concerned.
“Absolutly. Our princess is a fighter. Nothing can hold her down.” I opened my eyes to see Andrew’s face. I don’t know weither to be mad or happy to see him. “I’m sorry princess took me a bit to find the entrance to the tunnels. Felt your worry just couldn’t find you.”
“Andrew…”
“No just relax. Your fever is back and your sweats. We need to get you in a bath and bed.” Andrew spoke unsure where to go.
“Let’s take her home. Jason’s mom is there she can help.” Tarick spoke. Andrew agreed with him before I felt myself airborne.
“The Castle is under attack. I only managed to squeeze out of there to find you. Everyone is alright and holding there ground. Don’t worry.” Andrew said as he held me closer. I knew he knew I was going to ask because he started to speak the moment my mouth opened. “Its not safe to take you back in there specialy in this condition.”
“Andrew.” Tarick cried as I heard there flapping. We ducked into a bush and watched them race by.
“Those two have been on my tail the whole search.” Andrew said frustrated. He looked around carefully before kneeling. He let my legs go causing my bum to rest on his lap. He pulled Tarick in and closed his eyes. I quickly shot my face into his shoulder as I gripped him hard with one hand and grabbed Taricks hand. I soon felt the magic as he tried to get us out of here. I helped him pull it off.
“Princess.” Tarick cried as I went limp. I was still able to pull off a smile which I was happy about.
“Go get Mom.” Andrew said out of breath. Tarick didn’t take long before he raced away. Andrew soon was standing with me in his arms.
“Some body guard I am. Can even perform a proper transportation spell.” He chuckled as he waited. “I wasn’t there with you for that month because I was following a lead. I feared they where going to attack again. Me and a buddy went out on our own to check it out. He is still there watching. I came back because I felt your worry about something. I didn’t want to leave once I was back which didn’t help they then put me in the dungeon. I knew you where safe with the other three.”
“You should have just told us the truth.” I told him.
“I know, but if I did I wouldn’t be aloud back there.” He spoke gently. “Now just relax, Mom will be up to look after you.”
“Please don’t leave.” I wished now feeling scared once again.
“Hey.” He said holding me closer. “No one will touch you while I am here. You are safe. The army guards have been doubled in the city so they will have alarms out here to if anything happens.”
I nodded my head as I drifted off. Not sure if it’s because of the Virus or because I was tired or what it really was. I couldn’t stop it so I just let it come. I was worried for my family but I knew papa had Thomas, Alex had Mark and Jessica and Rebecca had Tanisha and Rachelle. I did secretly hope Jason was down stairs so Andrew had someone to help but I knew if he said not to worry I could relax.
