“Avery,” Someone was screaming my name over and over again. I wanted to look around but couldn’t. It was like I was pinned to the ground or something. “Shes okay we just have to hurry.” Another spoke. I could feel movement as I felt something warm. I tried to move to the warmth as my cold body hurt. “Hold her tighter, she needs it.” “Avery hold on please. Don’t leave me, I’m here now.” The first spoke. “This way sir. The door is just over here.” A third voice called as I was held closer to the warmth. What was wrong with me. I couldn’t see or move. I could hear but who I don’t even know. “Hurry Alex.” Someone screamed as I felt my body being jostled. I wish I could open my eyes. I needed to know what was going on but my body just laid limp. Was I dyeing and could see feel all the things around me going on or was this actually a dream I would wake up and be okay. “Sir this way.” The third person spoke. “Quicker.” The second hollered. That was it. I heard nothing after that. It was quiet before I heard sniffling from some corner for it echoed out. I tried to move but my body didn’t respond. I was weak and it wasn’t a feeling I liked much. I just wanted to find Alex. I wanted to make sure he was okay. “Al…” I tried so hard to get his name out. Something moved quickly as the door shut. It had to be the sniffle in the corner that moved. I began to try again but nothing was working. I hate this, I have never felt so weak before. Not even my mother has been able to put me in a state like this. I felt so useless and pathetic. I could feel tears starting to flow down my cheeks. I knew it was true and there was nothing I could do to stop it. I should have just died. Maybe I was dead and this was me in hell. They said you are tortured in hell and this right now is doing just that. I hated this, I hated myself. I should have just listened to Jessica and I would be alive hugging Alex, getting to know her and who knows one day be able to return to my father. “Avery,” A voice hit me causing all to go quiet. The darkness slipped away and I began to see a room. It was one I didn’t recognize. It was weird. My name hit me again before I smelt the freshly oiled whipped. I began to panic as I tried to look around but I was frozen to a spot. As I tried to look I couldn’t see what had me held. It didn’t matter when I felt the whip hit true to my back. I felt it peel the skin away. Her chuckle as she hit me once again. This on just marking the skin. I was dead and I knew there was nothing I could do. She had gotten me once more and I was done. That whip knew my back more then I had fight in me. My brother gone, my new sister missing and not even my father could save me. I was done and that’s all. The whips feeling stopped but the sound could be heard. I was shocked. I couldn’t understand what was going on. I wanted to, more like I needed to. “You will never do this alone.” A voice spoke gently as the whip sound even stopped. “This is not your life anymore.” “I…” I really tried to speak but nothing came. I was just to weak. “Rest Avery, I will protect you from your nightmares.” His voice sweet and caring. He sounded older like my father but it wasn’t. I soon felt my body lighten like I was laying down more then being held. I could move my hands and my feet. Not high but I could lift them. A hand quickly wrapped around mine breaking my movements. I thought of the hand and new right away it was Alex. His hand was the only one that fit like this. I gently squeezed it causing mumbling to be heard. I don’t know if it was me or him but I didn’t hear a word of it. The hand moved but again I was able to grip lightly causing it to fall down. Another hand caught my other one as a kiss was placed on my head. Sleep took me after that so I knew not what went on. All I knew was Alex was safe so I had to be as well. I didn’t think mom would do anything to him but if he was there I was safe. He would protect me from her. “Will you be careful.” Jessica gently snapped as I was forcefully moved. I mean it was the bed not me but I did feel it. I think she was working on my Mark’s because she was applying something cold on my back. “Sorry jess.” A voice I have never heard speak. “How is she?” Alex asked coming beside Jessica and grabbing my hand. “She is doing great. She should have her energy back in a day or so. I cant wait to show her this place.” Jessica said so excited. “Oh don’t bore her when she first gets up. We got to show her the cool stuff.” The new voice spoke as he walked up to the other side. “The workout grounds is not the place to take her Mark.” Jessica snapped at him. I just shuttered. “Its okay Avery.” Alex spoke holding my hand tighter. “Look at what you did.” Jessica snapped again causing me to shutter once again. “I’m sorry Avery, I promise no one will put you through any trouble not while I am here.” “Your brother in law is here to make sure things aren’t going to be boring.” Mark piped up. “Don’t that sound will hurt her.” Alex spoke as he rose. He sat right back down beside me and kissed my hand. I laid there happy he was close. “Well what’s the plan then.” Mark asked after a few moment. Alex was helping Jessica cover the wounds. They didn’t wrap them they just placed something on them before the sheet. “Nothing, Kings orders we stay with her 24 seven. Her nightmares are getting bad and she needs us to help her through them.” Jessica spoke gently as she found herself to a chair. She sat with a huff as Alex stayed at my side. “It looked bad. Wish I was there. I would have given that person a royal beating.” Mark gently spoke with anger. “It was the lady she called mom.” Alex spoke through his teeth. I gripped his hand gently causing him to apologize. “What?” Mark asked shock. “She did this.” “I was suppose to watch her but there guardian father told me he would keep a close eye on her so I could keep Alex safe. I wasn’t suppose to be seen but I mean you know what happened.” Jessica spoke gently. “I feel this is more my fault then anyone’s. I should have just stayed with her. You where safe on your own.” “This is not your fault.” Alex spoke gently letting me go and walking over to her. “You did what you thought was right. None of us expected Mom to turn on her like that.” “Jess,” I spoke ever so gently having her jump up and race over to me. “I’m right here. What’s wrong.” She spoke placing a hand on my shoulder. I managed to move my hand ever so slightly but not enough to grab hers. Alex saw what I was trying to do and helped me. “She wants her kick a*s sister in law beside her.” Alex smiled happily as he grabbed her hand and mine putting them together. I gripped it with all my might even though I know it would have been a light squeeze. “But you…” “She has two hands Jess, just means she will be between us for a bit.” Alex spoke gently. “She is the only one allowed between us.” Jessica smiled before I heard a light smack. They had to have kissed because you heard a gage come from Mark. I had almost forgotten Mark was in the room. “I think this might be a good thing.” Mark spoke with yet another gage. I just laughed inside as I gripped both them as hard as I could till I fell asleep. It did take a few days before I had the energy to open my eyes. When I did I was actually laying on my back and facing the ceiling. I was alone well at least I thought I was. I tried to sit up and hissed closing my eyes. “Take it easy.” Mark spoke as his hands fell on my shoulders. He helped lift me up before he placed a few pillows behind me to lay me back. “Jessica and Alex took off to have a shower and grab food. They should be back soon.” “Where are we?” I asked gently and he shook his head. “I don’t know what I can say and what I cant so I am going to leave that to your brother.” Mark chuckled lightly. “Plus Jessica has been so excited to tell you I don’t want to take that away from her.” “Older?” I asked gently “Yeah, we have another brother younger then her by a few years.” He smiled happily. “I’m the fun one.” “I heard.” I chuckled lightly before I started to cough. Mark quickly grabbed my shoulder and leaned me forward. Once I was able to breath he leaned me back and raced towards the pitcher of water. He grabbed me a cup and brought it over. I gently drank from it before he put it away. “Take it easy okay. You just woke up, we don’t need you out again.” Mark said gently. I nodded gently but I didn’t think I was going to fall asleep anymore. I was actually awake and felt awake. “I feel okay. I don’t feel so weak.” I spoke gently. A knocking at the door had me shutter before someone walked in. I screamed thinking it was Mom. She looked Identical to her, Brown hair slim build and the whip on her side. “Get out.” Mark screamed at the lady who high tailed it out. Mark wrapped my gently in his arms. “Its okay she’s gone. Avery your safe I promise.” “Avery.” I could hear Alex and Jessica's voice running down the hall. Mark held me till they got there before Alex took his place. “What happened.” Alex spoke gently trying not to scare me. “A guard walked in.” Mark sighed looking over at us. “The one outside?” Jessica asked. Mark nodded before he walked out the door. “She had you know what.” “Its okay Avery, no one will hurt you here okay.” Alex spoke holding me closer. I was so worried and upset and he knew it. He didn’t let me go till Mark walked back in. He sat with me in his arms but turned so he was facing him. “I’m sorry, I didn’t mean to frighten you Avery.” Mark spoke gently. “I have advised the guards outside who is aloud to enter and if they must enter what they are aloud in with. I won’t let anything happen to you.” “I’m sorry I screamed.” I spoke gently. “No don’t be sorry. This was not your fault.” Mark spoke before anyone else could. “All will be okay Avery. You have gone though a traumatic time and that will take time to heal.” Jessica spoke gently as she sat beside me grabbing my hand. I was in the middle of a sandwich and it comforted me. Mark stood at my feet keeping his eyes on the door. “I don’t want to take Jessica away but we must go. We are being summoned by the king.” Mark gently spoke with a hand rubbing the back of his neck. Jessica frowned as she looked from him back to me. “I shouldn’t be long.” Jessica smiled as she squeezed my hand before walking out. “May I enter.” A female voice spoke just out of sight. “Just enter slowly.” Alex spoke gripping me tighter. She slowly emerged. Her hair was tied up and out of her face. She had a such a gentle smile on her face as she walked to the edge of the bed. Took me a second but I realised she was the same lady that came in and I screamed at her. “I’m sorry.” I spoke gently to her. She held her hand up. “No Avery I apologize. I didn’t know or I would have proceeded carefully. I promise it won’t happen again.” She spoke gently placing her hand on my foot. “I’m Rebecca second in command of the royal armed forces. I will be taking over for Mark till he is back.” “Royal Armed forces?” I asked a little confused and curious. Rebecca looked at Alex who nodded. “here we have a few different forces. There are men and Women. I am second in command from Mark. I run the women forces that solemnly protect the ladies of the castle. So I protect you when your out and about or doing your duties out of the kingdom. Mark is head in the Men. Jessica is ahead of me but because of her involvement with the royal she has been placed under royal protection.” Rebecca said with a smile. “A new leader will be selected soon and I’m afraid they are really scary.” “If someone replaced Jessica do I still get to have you as a guard?” I asked gently. “Unfortunately that will be for the new leader to decide.” Rebecca sighed. I really liked her and I looked up at Alex whom seemed to be ignoring me. “Mark is set up for Alex who in turn is here to keep you safe till things calm down. I will be outside the door if you ever need me though so don’t worry. Plus Jessica is one of the best. Don’t tell anyone but I feel she is even better then her brother.” “Secret safe with me.” I told her with a smile. “There is another troop set to protect the city. They are made up of mostly newer warriors. Some of the older ones that don’t cut it for royal troops are there as well. They train the juniors. Now only the best of the best get on the royal armed forces the rest stay armed.” Rebecca said. “Oh that’s kind of nice. They still get to stay troops even if they aren’t very good.” I told her with a smile. “Back home if you aren’t good you cant even make it on the force.” “Some don’t make it very far but we always have other positions they can fill to help out in the kingdom.” Rebecca smiled. “But yes most do make it on the team.” “Do we have to train?” I asked remembering how Alex protected us with swords even though I had never saw him practise. “Yes but not with the guards. You will be taught self defense so if something happens to your guards you can protect yourself till someone replaces them.” Alex spoke gently after Rebecca looked at him. “Okay.” I said with a smile. “How are you feeling?” Rebecca asked a little concerned. I was yawning. “I’m okay. I am bored of sleeping though.” I told her with a smile. “We will have you up and moving tomorrow. Jessica wants to take it slow.” Alex spoke. Rebecca was smiling before she disappeared towards the door. “Jeeze Sis, easy.” A man spoke after a moment. “You are not suppose to be here. I suggest you leave before Mark comes back and rips your throat out.” Rebecca spoke annoyed. “Come on sis.” He spoke before a door shut. Rebecca emerged slowly before she took up her post. “I’m sorry about that. Please for give me.” Rebecca spoke. I could tell she was really sorry and before Alex could say anything I spoke up. I could feel the anger bubbling inside him. “No harm done.” I told her with a smile. She smiled right back at me even though I could still tell she was upset. “Was that your brother.” “He has heard you have come and wants to say high.” Rebecca said gently. “He always is getting into trouble and not following rules. Mark has him on special duties that he keeps neglecting to come say hi.” “Yeah and no matter how many times we tell him you will say high when your better he keeps coming.” Alex growled under his breath. “I’m sorry sir please I am trying to contain him.” Rebecca spoke upset. Alex glared at her and she dropped her head. I smacked Alex lightly before I looked at her. “Brothers can be annoying and they are hard to control. You did keep him away from me and I’m still safe so you did your job. Maybe if you tell him he must complete his work before he can see me that may help. You can even say I said it.” I told her gently. “That might work. I will the moment Mark gets back.” She smiled at me. I knew we had to be royalty if the royal guards where watching us. So her saying sir was just something she was trained to do. “So what’s so exciting about Mark getting back?” Mark said entering the room. Jessica was following with a smile on her face. “Where did you guys go?” I asked after weaving good bye to Rebecca. “The king had something’s he wanted to discuss with us.” Jessica smiled. “He wants to meet you if your up for it.” “I would love to.” I said happy to get out of the bed. “She just woke up.” Alex complained. “She won’t be walking there. We will wheel her over.” Jessica said as Rebecca emerged with a wheelchair. She bowed lightly before leaving again. “But I want to walk.” I protested. “In due time sis. In due time.” Jessica smiled as they helped me into the chair.
