"The Unexpected Reaction"
%Daiana's POV %
When I went inside the giant lion's mouth.
I couldn't help but be amazed at what I saw.
My mouth fell open slightly, and the word "wow" wasn't enough for the beautiful view I was seeing.
It's ... "Magical," I said without thinking as I looked around.
"It's beautiful...."
My eyes sparkled at the strange animals below, big and strong animals—no. Wrong. Not big, but giant animals, to be exact.
There were also giant flowers and huge trees.
Not far from where we stood, you could clearly see what looked like a small city.
Tall buildings and something moving that I couldn't make out.
While I was amazed at what I saw and busy appreciating nature's natural beauty, I stopped walking when I felt a hand tightly holding my arm.
I immediately looked at the hand holding my arm.
And I saw the person who owned it giving me a cold look.
I was confused by what he was showing, so I almost asked, but he beat me to it.
"What do you think you're doing, girl?" he asked me without emotion.
"H-ha? What?" I asked him, confused.
While he just stared at me like he was annoyed by my question-like answer.
"Are you planning to kill yourself? Just say the word because I'm ready to push you off that cliff right in front of you," Steven said.
I looked ahead of me.
I was only about ten steps away, and if I kept going, I'd definitely fall off the cliff.
But it's still far... And I was aware there was a cliff. My god, why is it such a big deal?
Suddenly Jeiol appeared in front of me, whistling while floating.
"By the way, Steve. The Headmaster already knows what happened on your mission in the kingdom of the fifth Element.
And the whole academy was very worried about your disappearance for two months, with no trace or sign to know if you were alive.
That's why I went out to look for you, but from what I see, you're fine, and you're not hurt.
By the way, the headmaster already knows you're here.
I sent the message through the wind earlier, and I just received the message sent by the headmaster.
He said You two should go straight to his office," Jeiol said to Steve while floating in front of me.
"What did you say? Two months?" Steven asked Jeiol, confused.
"Yeah, you've only been missing for two months, little boy," Jeiol answered innocently while fiddling with and cleaning his long nails.
I looked at Steven.
"Are you gone that long?" I asked him, confused.
Steven looked at me like he was confused.
"Why does it feel like I wasn't gone that long? Wait... Yesterday, after I heard the council of Ashtaroth conversation and found out their plan... A soldier saw me... He chased me until I reached an island. Your island," he pointed at me.
I just stared at him for the stupid thing he was doing.
I really have different feelings for this guy now.
"Then the tainted followed me, and it became.. Bla bla bla," he said to himself, and I didn't listen anymore because I didn't want to remember what happened.
It's still fresh. Damn, I remember it now.
Steven looked at me with a worried face.
Because I don't want to... Damn life, I don't want to remember it, damn it stop! I don't want to stop.
I just gave him a bitter smile and looked away.
"How did it become two months when I was only gone for two days?
It's only been two days since I was captured by Astharot's men.
How come it's already been two months?" he asked Jeiol, confused.
Jeiol just raised an eyebrow.
"Seriously? Two days? You were gone for a long time, dude. Two months, not days," Jeiol said sarcastically.
"That's what I..."
"That's enough, it'd be better if you helped me find a way through here so we can start walking over there, because I'm hungry," I cut Steven off.
The two of them suddenly looked at me when I spoke.
"So what are you spacing out for? Come on, hurry!" I shouted at them.
"You guys are so slow for men," I muttered to myself, but I made it loud enough for them to hear.
That's how mean I am. Hahaha just kidding, I'm actually nice.
"Nahh.. No need to do that," Steven said to me with a laugh.
I stood up from sitting and faced the two of them.
"Hey, how are we going to get down from here? Are we just going to jump? Hello, this place we're standing on is so high," I said to him.
"Jeiol can handle us flying," and strong wind immediately surrounded me.
I felt them touch my skin, and they carefully lifted me into the air.
Then they flew me closer to the two of them.
"Whoa... Don't tell me we're flying over there?" I pointed to the middle of this place where their academy was supposedly standing.
"Exactly Princess," Jeiol confirmed what I said.
I suddenly got nervous at the thought that formed in my mind.
What if Jeiol loses control? What if the wind suddenly disappears? And we fall.
"You're joking, right?" I asked Jeiol.
"Do I look like I'm joking?" he pointed at his face.
Like I said, no. Instead of speaking, I just stayed quiet.
"Ready princess?" I nodded at him as an answer.
"Then... Fly!" Suddenly, the surrounding wind moved and flew me toward where Jeiol and Steven were heading.
That's when I felt a strange emotion in my chest.
It's fun.
It feels amazing.
So this is what it feels like when you fly in the air.
It feels so gentle.
I feel... Freedom.
Not long after, we arrived at a golden gate.
We approached it.
As we approached, Steve took out their IDs and inserted them into the small slot in the middle of the door.
Then the ground we were standing on lit up, and light came out from above the gate.
It slowly came down until it hit our heads.
I flinched slightly out of fear.
Jeiol saw what I did, so he straightened me up properly.
The light slowly came down until it reached our feet.
I poked Jeiol.
"What is that thing?" I asked him.
"That's called a Scanner. It scans your whole body to find your records in the students' list of records. But don't..." Jeiol said.
"Warning!!! ALERT!!! Unknown person detected! Unknown person dedicated!!! Alert an unknown person dedicated to an unknown person dedicated." — Steven pressed a button.
"She's with me. She's a new student, a new first-year student at this school starting tomorrow, so there's no need to be alert," he said to the door.
"I see. Please come in," and the door suddenly opened on its own.
We flew inside again.
When we entered, it was pretty quiet around.
There was no one around.
"Why is it so quiet? Where are the people?" I asked the two of them.
"They're in their respective classes," Jeiol answered, and we continued walking until we reached the big golden building.
Wow, I said to myself when I saw the golden building.
It's big and tall, probably five stories.
The wind slowly lowered me, and I felt the ground under my feet again.
Steven opened the door, and we went inside.
Even inside, it's so beautiful.
The light is golden.
Chocolate-like floor, white walls, and blue ceiling.
There are big paintings and small ones hanging on the wall.
There are also statues standing on each pillar of the building.
And plants placed in pots.
We kept walking down the hallway until we stopped at a white door with "Headmaster's Office" written above it.
It suddenly opened, and Steven and Jeiol entered the door without hesitation.
I followed the two of them.
When we entered, a large painting of a man greeted us.
I looked around the whole room.
This room is big compared to a normal office.
There's a small table on our right.
It's surrounded by three long, big sofas.
And there's a big flat-screen TV hanging on the wall.
There's a water dispenser in the corner to the right of the flat-screen TV, and on the left is a small coffee counter with wines displayed on the wall.
On the right side of this room is the table of the owner of this room.
Behind him is a large glass wall with a clear view of the outside.
The swivel chair facing outside suddenly turned to face us.
When it faced us, a small child about five years old appeared before us.
His skin was fair.
His hair and eyebrows were white, his eyes were gray, and he wore a white tuxedo, slacks, and white shoes.
He got down from his chair and approached us.
Since it was my first time seeing a child, I approached him.
"Oh... Baby... Come here," I said to him affectionately.
He approached me smiling, so I hugged him tightly.
He smelled so good, he really smelled like a child, and he was probably freshly bathed.
"What's your name, baby?" I asked the child while picking him up.
"Third po," he answered politely.
"How old are you?" I asked him again.
He didn't answer.
"You don't know how old you are?" I asked him, confused.
Instead of answering, he just smiled at me sweetly.
"Daiana," Steven called me, but I ignored him. Instead of paying attention to him, I focused on the child I was carrying.
I pinched the child's cheek slightly and tickled him.
He laughed loudly, echoing throughout the room.
"You're so cute, Third. Do you know this is the first time I've ever seen a child in my whole life? It's just us girls on our island, and I'm the only child because everyone else on our island is old, over five hundred years old," I told him.
"And what's your name?" he asked me.
"Daiana," Steve called my name again.
But again, I ignored him.
"I'm Daiana, just call me Ana or Ia or Aina or Daiana, but I'll let you call me whatever you want," I answered his question.
"Daiana," Steve called me again, so I turned to him.
"What?" I asked him with raised eyebrows.
"Put down the child you're carrying," he answered.
"I don't want to, do whatever." I turned to look at Third.
"Third doesn't want to get down, right Third?"
He just smiled at me as an answer.
Steve facepalmed because of my answer and just shook his head.
I felt the Third move, wanting to get down, so I put him down.
Once his feet touched the ground, he smiled at me, then turned to the two guys with me.
"Welcome back Steve, I'm very glad you're back here at the academy again. And I'm very grateful that nothing bad happened to you," Third said to Steve.
Steven and Jeiol bowed slightly in front of Third.
"I gratefully accept your warm welcome and your great concern for me, headmaster, but there's no need to worry anymore because I'm fine, and they didn't hurt me," Steven said, bowing his head.
I looked behind me, thinking maybe the headmaster was just behind me.
But when I turned, I didn't see anyone except the large glass wall behind me.
I approached Jeiol and whispered.
"Is your headmaster a ghost? Why can't I feel him? Are you the only ones who can see him? Why can't I see him?" I asked Jeiol one after another.
Instead of answering my questions, he just smiled at me.
What's with people today? Why do they love smiling so much?
"It's for you to find out," Jeiol answered with a smile.
What else could I expect for an answer from him? Just "it's for you to find out."
Sigh.. I just rolled my eyes at him.
When I faced the glass wall, I also bowed like Steven did.
And I prepared myself for my speech.
"Good morning, headmaster, whom I cannot see. I don't know where you're standing right now, so I just copied what Steve did. I hope if you can hear me, please show yourself to me so I can meet you too, promise. I'm nice, I'm not like Steven, who has a bad attitude. Don't be shy about showing yourself to me no matter what you look like, even if you're ugly, I won't spread it or tell anyone. Your secrets are safe with me, swear," I said in front of the glass wall.
"And if you are a ghost, please don't haunt me because that's scary, and I'm scared of ghosts.
Let's be peaceful, okay?" I continued.
I heard a soft laugh from in front of me, so my body shivered.
All the hairs on my body stood up when I heard the baritone voice.
"Go ahead and introduce yourself," his voice echoed throughout the room.
I stood up and prepared myself to introduce myself.
"I am Daiana Altha, Princess of Althera, Daughter of Victoria, Queen of the Amazons, it's a pleasure to meet you," I introduced myself.
"It's a pleasure to meet you too," he replied.
I turned to Steve and the others.
They looked like they were laughing and entertained, just staring at me. Even Third's smile widened when I looked at him.
"Come here, sit down first," and Third led us to the big sofas.
I followed the three of them.
Then I sat on the right near the water dispenser, while Steven and Jeiol sat on the left near the mini coffee counter, and Third sat in the middle facing the big flat-screen TV.
"Can you narrate to me what's happening?" Third asked.
I just noticed, okay?
Third speaks differently, like he's much older when he talks.
Something feels off.
And Steven narrated to him what happened to him.
Third just nodded like he understood everything Steven was saying.
Then he turned to me.
"And this beautiful woman saved you?" he asked Steven while looking at me.
"Yes Headmaster," he replied politely.
"So you owe your life to her. Well, Ms. Daiana.." he didn't finish what he was saying when I raised my hand to cut him off.
"Wait!, why did you call Third headmaster? He's just a kid," I asked Steve.
Instead of Steve answering, Third spoke.
"Let me introduce myself to you, Princess Daiana," I looked at Third.
"Shhhh, just stay there Third. It's not good for a child to butt into adult conversations," I took the books under the table and gave them to Third.
"Read that so you won't butt in anymore. Also, don't listen to adult conversations because that's bad.
Do you understand, Third?" Third nodded at me.
"Daiana! Don't act like that toward the headmaster," Steve shouted authoritatively.
Jeiol was just laughing.
"Have you gone crazy, Steve? Third is just a kid, and he can't be Headmaster yet," I said.
Steve messed up his hair and turned to me irritably.
"Look, Daiana, the person in front of you isn't a kid anymore. He's older than you. He's our headmaster here," Steve said.
"Can you stop your nonsense, Steve? What do you mean old? It's clearly a kid in front of me. Are you blind? Huh," I said.
"Tssss," was all he answered me.
Then he turned to Third.
"Please forgive this woman's rudeness, headmaster," Steve said to Third.
"Hey, now I'm the rude one? You're something else too, huh," I complained to Steve.
"Enough, children. Don't fight in front of me," Third said.
I looked at him.
I was surprised at what I saw because there was no longer Third in front of me, but a man around 20 years old and above.
He had white hair that reached his waist.
He had a toned body with well-defined muscles from gym care, and his skin was fair too.
Smooth skin, cat-like green eyes, and pointed ears.
He wore a white tuxedo and white slacks with white shoes.
Maybe he's the headmaster they were talking about, but where is Third?
I bowed in front of him.
"It's a pleasure to meet you, Headmaster," I greeted him immediately.
"It's a pleasure to meet you too, Daiana," he replied, and because of that I realized he really was the headmaster, since it was the same voice that spoke earlier.
"By the way, I am…" I was about to introduce myself, but he raised his right hand.
"I had already heard that earlier. Now it's my turn to introduce myself," he said to me.
"I'm Cheoljong Deane Leon Landcaster III. From the House of Thralgerian. And I'm the headmaster of this academy," he introduced himself to me.
"The Third?" I asked while rubbing my chin.
"You share a name with the kid earlier. Oh right, where is Third?" I asked them.
"Daiana," Steven called me.
But instead of speaking, he just looked at me quietly.
I just sighed.
"I'm sorry," I apologized.
"It's okay Daiana. No need to apologize," my gaze turned to the headmaster, and I smiled at him.
"The child you saw earlier is one of my favorite forms. Third and I are one," he explained to me.
My eyes widened in shock when I realized he was the cute child I was carrying earlier.
Damn, that's embarrassing.
T^T Why didn't anyone tell me, huhuh?
I hate you now, really.
Just kidding.
"Form? Do you have powers?" I asked, confused.
"Exactly! What kind of power do you have? What house do you belong to?" he asked me one after another.
Damn!
How am I supposed to answer his question?
I didn't know the people here were mages.
Steve didn't even inform me about this.
"I don't know," I answered him, bowing my head.
It's true, I really don't know. If I had any power, I should have been able to use it and save Auntie already.
Suddenly, pain and ache rose in my chest as the memories came back to my mind.
But before I could break down in front of them, I stopped myself from crying,
And I held back the tears that were about to fall from my eyes so they wouldn't see.
I smiled at them so they wouldn't notice the pain I was feeling.
"Well, we have a way to find out if you're an Elemental like us," the headmaster said and stood up from the sofa.
He walked to his table and pressed something in the middle.
Suddenly an image appeared of a woman wearing a black round hat with a pointed tip on top.
Like a witch's hat, to be exact.
The headmaster grabbed the image and threw it toward where we were.
The image suddenly enlarged and became a hologram screen.
The image moved, and the woman's whole body was visible.
She wore a black gown that reached the floor.
The outfit fit her body perfectly, and you could clearly see the curves of her beautiful figure.
She smiled at us and waved her hand.
Before bowing.
"Congratulations to you, headmaster Third. What can I do for you?" the woman said politely.
"I want you to come to my office and bring the Examination Hat because we have a new student," headmaster Third ordered her authoritatively.
The woman stood straight, placed her right hand on her chest, and bowed.
"Understood, headmaster," and the hologram screen in front of us disappeared immediately.
The headmaster approached us and sat back down where he was earlier.
But before he could speak, there were three knocks on the door.
Then it opened on its own.
When the door opened, it revealed the woman from the hologram earlier, carrying a small floating table in front of her with something pointed on top of it, but I couldn't tell what it was because it was covered with a black cloth.
"Owh there she is... So fast," the headmaster said with a smile.
"I was bored in the office, so I was about to go out since I was done with my work. But you called, so instead of walking outside, I'm here now, I think I'll enjoy it here because I saw on the screen earlier that there's a new enrollee, right?" the woman said in a long speech.
"Yes, you're right. And if I remember correctly, I told you that just now before our conversation was cut off... Owh! By the way. Daiana, this is..." the headmaster stopped when the woman raised her hand.
"I got it. This is my moment, don't steal it from me," she turned to me while the headmaster just smiled.
"As usual. You still haven't changed," the headmaster muttered to himself, but I heard it clearly.
"Did you say something?" the woman asked.
"Nothing, nothing. Like I said, you introduce yourself," the woman turned to me and smiled.
It even gave me chills the way she smiled.
Scary
Like she's possessed.
"Don't scare the kid," the headmaster teased the woman, but instead of paying attention, she just ignored him.
"Hi! I'm Arcaena Wong," and she held out her hand.
"I'm from the house of Leiouness. A nature user and I'm an Elf," she continued, even wiggling her ear when she said the word Elf.
"And what's your name?"
I accepted her outstretched hand to shake it.
I even squeezed it slightly.
Nothing, I just wanted to. It's so soft, though.
"Daiana. Daiana Altha, Princess of Althera. Daughter of Victoria, Queen of the Amazons," I introduced myself to her.
"Althera? Where is Althera?" she asked me, confused.
"It's too far from here," I answered her briefly.
"Okay. Oh right, let's find out what house you belong to," and she turned away from me.
She approached the small floating table she brought and pulled the black cloth covering it, and that's when I saw what was inside.
It was a round hat with a pointed tip on top, easier to compare to witches' or wizards' hats.
She held it and picked it up, then approached me.
"Stay there, don't move," she carefully placed the hat on my head.
Once it was on, it suddenly tightened on my head, and I flinched when it suddenly spoke.
"lero lero maistro le fam che evem kol tere meh-koh-ROHT.
nivem iche kelsali maowna evem kormanac.
nevum maik boom salec aiwa ka meh-koh-roht.
nevem ere memekuksalem barmanac anok meni,
pelpeli karmaonac kremona velmaham sandakok valerian ni kuwanagar egzan,
valeria monio wengus nois isa.
You belong to the House of Thralgerion.
You should enter Class Chairo because I can't determine what kind you are...." it stopped speaking, sounding crazy and confused.
It even vibrated on my head, so I was forced to try to remove it, but I couldn't.
" Aaaahhhhhh!!!," I screamed when I felt intense pain throughout my head.
The talking hat was gripping tighter and tighter on my head, and I felt like I'd faint anytime from how tight it was.
"B-b-.. Bbb... Bb.. Bbb.. Bb... bbbooo.... boží..." it vibrated faster and faster, and it felt like the hat would explode on my head anytime.
I could feel the heat building up in it.
I looked at my reflection on the glass table in front of me, and I could clearly see the hat smoking and seeming to go crazy.
I panicked, and the four others in this room were panicking too.
"Arcaena, do something," the headmaster ordered Arcaena.
"I can't... I don't feel my power," Arcaena shouted.
Suddenly the wind in the room spun faster. I felt like this was Jeiol's doing.
"Jeiol, what did you do?" Steven asked Jeiol.
"I didn't do anything. I can't feel my powers now. This wind is not mine!!" Jeiol shouted.
"Please get this f*****g hat out of my head!!!! Aaaarrrrgghhh!!!!!" I shouted from the pain, and suddenly my body emitted intense light.
"vvvvvrrrrraaaaaaahh!!!!!!!!!!," the talking hat on my head screamed loudly as it exploded.
And everything turned black.
