Grey continued forward, making his way through the twisted forest that had once been part of a suburban park.
In the distance, he could hear howls. Sharp. Canine.
Looking forward, he saw a pack of wolves, with the cataclysm boss leading them.
Direwolf Matriarch [Lv. 12]
Beside her were several smaller wolves that numbered close to 20, level 6 to 8 at a glance.
Grey smirked. Let the boss hunt commence. As he said this, he released all the thralls in his death domain. Then he used Rotting t****l command.
In an instant, over a hundred thralls appeared from his Death Domain. The field was filled with undead as green fumes began to rise from them.
Tear them apart, Grey commanded.
The undead surged forward like a tide of death, screeching and snarling as they lunged at the direwolves. The clash was brutal. Poisonous mists erupted, coating the battlefield in green.
Grey moved through the chaos, his figure wreathed in Pestilent Veil. Any wolf that tried to approach him slowed to a crawl, their bodies withering from the passive drain.
One was lucky enough to survive, meeting Lex head-on.
He met it with a clawed s***h of his Toxic Sovereign Grasp, severing its limbs in one smooth motion. Another tried to leap behind him—he didn't even turn, instead detonating the corpse of a fallen goblin near it with Corpse Plague Eruption. The explosion of death energy melted the wolf's flesh instantly, reviving it as a t****l.
The Matriarch, seeing her pack fall, howled. A loud, shattering cry that released a shockwave. Several of Grey's thralls were torn apart by the force.
Grey narrowed his eyes, in awe of the strength of the matriach.
She lunged at him, fangs bared and claws slashing with unnatural speed. He sidestepped the first swipe, ducked under the second, then activated Corpse Plague Eruption again, this time on one of the larger wolves she passed.
The explosion caught her left flank, burning deep into her side.
She howled in pain, but didn't stop.
Claws slashed across Grey's chest.
-740 HP
He staggered, blood spraying—but he didn't stop either. His hand shot forward, glowing with green death.
magic missle x toxic sovereign grasp, he said.
A concentrated pulse of death mana surged from his palm, stabbing through her stomach and tearing out the other side.
She yelped and jumped back, her body visibly rotting from within.
That's when the undead woman, silent until now, moved.
She darted forward with inhuman speed, caught the Matriarch mid-leap, and plunged her sharp claws deep into her neck.
A critical strike.
The Matriarch fell dead.

When everyone heard the notification, they were shocked.
Did someone just defeat the boss?
Just three hours after the invasion, someone is already defeating a boss, while I am still struggling with a level 4 shadow spider.
Several thoughts were passing through everyone's heads.
But what is the crimson gate? A thought suddenly snapped in their heads.
Crimson Gate is the next main event after the boss, Grey thought.
My mana is finally refilled, he thought as he raised the direwolves on the field.
Then, with a wave, he sent them to his death domain, including the matriarch.
He only left the female t****l and 18 thralls from the previous ones.
Tombsworn ascension, he said calmly.
Then, the 18 thralls vanished, and 6 tombstones, the size of a seed, appeared on his hands.
Then he gave them to the female t****l, curious about how she would absorb them.
The t****l took them and pushed them down her throat. Energy began to swirl around her body.
Then an eruption, as her body was lifted into the air.
While she was evolving, Grey was thinking about something. Now that I think about it, as a human, she should have a class; why isn't it manifesting as a t****l? Before he could continue, a system notification sounded.
I can worry about that later, now I should check this, he thought as he checked the notification.
[t****l has levelled up to level 13, chance to earn skill raised to 0.5%, gained skill Beast instinct.]
Then she landed softly on the ground.
The efficiency is so high, he thought. Just 6 tombstones, they not only upgraded her to level 13 from level 2, it also increased her devouring ability to 0.5 and allo
He had only used the human thralls that he gained first due to their low levels.
Looking into the forest, Grey heard the howls of monsters.
If I move quickly, I should be able to harvest those groups of monsters before the descent, he thought. The feeling of growing stronger made him bubble with excitement.
With a wave of his hands, the death domain was opened again, spawning all thralls in his reserve, the direwolf matriarch and the woman stood beside him.
Then they headed deeper into the forest, killing all the beasts they came across.
As Grey sat down under a tree to rest, he couldn't help but think of how much stronger the monsters here were.
Most of the monsters were at level 6, and occasionally, level 10 monsters even appeared.
Grey hadn't expected that just a little over 5 hours after the invasion, the difficulty was going to be this high.
Did the death of the boss cause more than just the crimson gate descent, he thought?
Wait, why am I even scared? This is a blessing for me, he thought.
With every kill, his army grew. The stronger the monster, the stronger he got.
March forward, he commanded as he stood up from the floor.
[Time until crimson gate descent: 21:47:30]
